Story
Akart's standalone novel, ARkStorm, is based on actual events. In 1861, a 43-day series of atmospheric rivers, huge flows of moisture carried from the tropics to the West Coast, turned large swaths of California into an inland sea. The intense rainstorms pounded the state unabated with little respite. Rivers became raging torrents that swept away entire communities, killing thousands. The State’s Central Valley turned a massive body of water 300-miles long and 20-miles wide.

Whatever happened sent cars spiraling out of control and planes falling from the sky. Alone and separated from her family, Audrey is soon joined by two other survivors. In the remote mountains of Northern Alaska, Dr. Riley Middleton and her team of archeologists discover a burial site containing mummified remains dating to the last ice age. None of them notice the warning carved into the entrance or realize that the tomb had been deliberately sealed from the outside until they’ve already released a virus that turns ordinary people into murderous monsters. But there’s something even more terrifying inside...something ancient...something unspeakably evil.

Several years ago, an ARkStorm, a once-in-a-thousand-years flood event caused by a series of intense atmospheric rivers, flooded the Central Valley of California from Sacramento to what was once Los Angeles. The weight of the water was equivalent to the volume generated by the Mississippi River times 22. It challenged an already fragile seismic system consisting of hundreds of active faults.

great story
I really enjoyed the story. it was a refreshing change to other similar titles. However, I had a very difficult time with the narrator. The voice used made the character's sound either "dumb" or like a thug.
I almost stopped and returned the book, but I was intrigued by the story by then.

dull
Would you try another book from Jacqueline Druga and/or Gene Blake?
I would try another book from Jacqueline Druga but not Gene Blake
Would you ever listen to anything by Jacqueline Druga again?
Maybe
How could the performance have been better?
Gene Blake main narrative is alright, but when he tries to do other voices, it is horrible.]
The little girl in this book especially was bad, sounded like a cartoon character.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Not really as the author obviously did not put any effort in writing this story, just put together bits and pieces.
Any additional comments?
I have tried other of Druga books and they were not great but ok.
I thought at least she isn't using the F word and then she did.

I just can’t take the narrator
Usually I’m pretty forgiving but this guy is just so far off and so annoying. The main character and everyone else in the book sound like old men from the Bronx or Like a stereotype of some New York accent ? And you can hear his lip and tongue sounds when he talks.
I saw this book has now been released as a series so hopefully there will be new narration , I’m waiting for that.
