Publisher's summary

In the dark heart of our imagination, and the haunted corners our past there are places we fear to tread. As much as we might try to outrun them, as much as we might try to deny their truths, we are owned by their shape, molded by their claws. The story of our being, they form a Sacrum Umbra, a sacred shadow of improbable origin - our own dark heart.

Excellent

I’ve listened to and read so many collections of short stories but this is definitely one of the best.
The first 3 stories were the best. The shaman story was my favorite. I wish I could remember the names of all of the stories.
I will be looking for more by this author. I loved the originality. It felt like everything was a new concept even with well known stories.
The narrator, Paul Burt’s voice reminded me of Colman Domingo. He did an excellent job.

I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.

Not what I expected

The stories in this collection are a lot more erotic than I was expecting. I enjoyed the references to other popular tales even though they were taken to the extreme. Blood gore and sex. Reader beware.

Haunting

Well written and haunting stories with dark narration that aptly matched the tone of the varied stories. I particularly enjoyed "All That Remains" (Chapter 3) and "She Walks with Me" (Chapter 7).

Dark horror tales

Sacrum Umbra is a book.of dark gothic horror that will leave you questioning the shadows you are in the dark. The tales are graphic, creative and highly imaginative. The book is fast paced and well written. The deep rich voice of the narrator Paul Burt was perfect. I received this audio book at my request and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Good Collection of Gothic Stories

This was a great collection of unique horror stories. Encompasses a wide spectrum of tales and think that they all were at the same level. Didn’t find any that I really didn’t like. I will say that you have to like gothic style novels as the language and style are unique and can be a bit difficult to follow if you don’t pay full attention. The writing is done quite well and works perfectly to craft each story. I wouldn’t really call any of these stories really horror as I didn’t find any of them scary, although they were supernatural and haunting in nature. Be sure you realize that they are short stories, I had to restart the book after I finally realized they were short stories and wondered how I go to where I was.

The narrator has a really deep voice which coupled with his cadence, provided an almost sing-songy type narration. While this definitely is prose, the narrator’s telling of these stories almost makes it seem more like poetry. His narration was as unique as the stories being told and worked perfectly with the gothic style writing.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

The beauty of pain and forgiveness

No matter which chapter you are on and which life she is reliving for you. She tells a story as if she herself personally lived it. From A closeted lesbian to a man Who questions the woman he loves mental stability to an over eager new mother who can’t get her babies weight up, yet she is determined to despite the effects it may cause the baby. OK that is a lot of detail my point is this is a great book and I loved it
