Royally Sweet!

Princess Raina of Montenegro is being introduced as the belle of the ball, but it's not a typical royal ball. The country that the royal family rules over, Montenegro, is broke and she's to find a prince to marry who is almost as rich as the royal family. Their financial advisor has embezzled their funds and they are left almost destitute. As each prince or duke is introduced to her, she dances with them for awhile, but her heart is across the room with her bodyguard, Gavin. He hasn't always been her bodyguard, but since he began, she's enjoyed sending him on wild goose chases or teasing him mercilessly as she slowly falls in love with him. Gavin knows better than to be attracted to Raina, but the heart wants what it wants. Getting a tip as to the whereabouts of the embezzler, Gavin and Raina go on a skiing trip to find him in his home country. Along the way, they are almost killed when they're caught in the middle of an avalanche. It takes a long time for their rescuers to find the cabin they're using to stay warm and it allows them to face their feelings. Once they're discovered by the king and queen, the truth is obvious and things don't go well for either one of them. Princess Raina has made her decision that she will only marry for love. The embezzler is found, but there's a shock in store for the royal family. The backstory is fascinating! Gavin and Raina get their happy ending, but it takes a twist and some fancy footwork by the King to make it come true. A delightful story with understandable and believable characters.
I also listened to this on Audible and Beth Roeg did an impressive job with the narration. Each of the characters was very clear and the story flowed perfectly.

predictable

The premise of the story was good, bit frim beginning it was very predictable as to how it would end.

A Princess and Her Bodyguard

Princess Raina has finally come to age and is ready to be introduced to society, but before that happens, her parents share that their kingdom is nearly broke. Because of this, Raina will be forced into a marriage that will be advantageous to the kingdom instead of one of love. Gavin is Raina's bodyguard, and despite how exasperating she can be, he couldn't stop himself from falling in love with her. A relationship with her is forbidden, but when Raina gets an idea in her head, nothing will stop her. While at first this story seems like a stereotypical plot, there are plenty of twists and surprises to keep it interesting. Not to mention the verbal back and forth between Raina and Gavin is quite funny at times.
The narration of this book was just okay. It took me a while to get into it. At first I really had a problem with the voice used for Gavin, but after a few chapters it stopped bothering me. The portrayal of Raina though was spot on for what you'd expect for a somewhat spoiled and entitled princess and fit well with her personality.

Good Story!

This is a good story about finding love and keeping it.
Princess Raina is trying to saving her troubling country and to do that she must marry a prince with lots of money. She wants to marry for love but country comes first.
She has fallen in love with her bodyguard Gavin and wants to know what it would feel like to be in his arms just once before she has to give him up for her country.
Will Raina be able to marry someone else with her heart belonging to someone else? Will Gavin accept that he will never be able to marry her?
This story is filled with love, a little suspense, and lasting love to keep you interested. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
This is a first for me from this author and I will be reading/listening to more soon.
