Publisher's Summary

Evie Blackwell loves her life as an Illinois state police detective...mostly. She's very skilled at investigations and has steadily moved up through the ranks. She would like to find Mr. Right, but she has a hard time imagining how marriage could work, considering the demands of her job.

Gabriel Thane is a lifetime resident of Carin County and now its sheriff, a job he loves. Gabe is committed to upholding the law and cares deeply for the residents he's sworn to protect. He, too, would like to find a lifetime companion, a marriage like his parents have.

When Evie arrives in Carin, Illinois, it's to help launch a new task force dedicated to reexamining unsolved crimes across the state. Spearheading this trial run, Evie will work with the sheriff's department on a couple of its most troubling missing-person cases. As she reexamines old evidence to pull out a few tenuous new leads, she unearths a surprising connection...possibly to a third cold case.

Evie's determined to solve the cases before she leaves Carin County, and Sheriff Thane, along with his family, will be key to those answers.

Excellent Narration! Enjoyed ~ Thoroughly.

It was a very nicely written book, like all the others I've read by Dee Henderson. It's not filled with sex & gore which is a great break from most of the books I listen to. Real people doing real life things but with integrity & dignity. I lead a very simple life but I know behind the scenes of my ordinary existence there are crimes and the people that solve them, putting themselves in harms way. every day. and I like listening to their stories.

Didn't want it to end

This book was well written, suspenseful and I kept me up late to see if I could figure out the twists and turns. The narrator did an amazing job and hopefully this is the first of many more in a series. Well worth your credit

Mind numbing

Would you try another book from Dee Henderson and/or Johanna Parker?

No

What was most disappointing about Dee Henderson’s story?

Long, long, boring, mind numbing conversations.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

It was read in a slow monotonous manner that matched the mind numbing content and yet somehow made it even worse.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Traces of Guilt?

Lots and lots of unnecessary conversation.

Any additional comments?

Great premise with lots of promise. Most of the book was spent talking ad nauseum about stuff and then suddenlty a development would get thrown in like an after thought.

The most “Talky” BORING book I’ve ever read!!!

Although I like D Henderson’s early stories, she seems to have begun writing in a style I hate. in this book, there was literally almost ZERO action, and way too much talking, talking, talking!!!!
It got so bad, I found myself skipping ahead to try and find some action. this book had so much dialogue I could choke! The only reason I gave the performance three stars, was because the narrator was good.
Skip this boring atrocity of a book! No drama, no action, just sappy, mellow dramatic dialogue.

New Series! Wow!

The new characters, including Evie Blackwell are so interesting..if you enjoy Dee Henderson's series you will enjoy this first one. The depth of the plot has many twists and turns that keep you wondering how it will end.. A small town in Illinois and the lives of the people in it. How well do you really know your neighbors?

What happened to Dee Henderson?

She had been my favorite author, but honestly, starting with full disclosure, her stories have been missing the mark. This was one of the longest, most boring, I've read yet. So many characters, so many tragic cold cases described in detail, it was depressing. Where's the romance? Where's the uplifting tone -- I get that life can be hard and God is there for us as we walk those hard roads, yet an inspirational book should be just that -- inspirational!! Her earlier books (o'mally series & uncommon Heroes) hit that mark with a mixture of romance, suspense/mystery and dependence on God. I miss the "old" Dee Henderson!!

Good story but....

Unfortunately the overly sincere voice of the narrator and the overly insightful characters threatened to overwhelm the good story and mystery of this book. I enjoyed it but I had to engage a "filter" to keep from being annoyed by the these issues. If you like Dee Henderson, worth a listen - just a note of caution!
