The Harris List of Covent Garden Ladies, that wickedly witty annual register of the city's light-skirts, was once a grand London tradition. Now, as all of Europe is celebrating the end of the long wars, the scheming Lord Marstoke has revived it - and transformed it into a weapon to be used against his runaway fiancée and the old enemy who helped her escape.
A list no respectable lady wishes to be on...
Miss Brynne Wilmott escaped the monstrous Marstoke once, with the inadvertent aide of Nathan Russell, the Duke of Aldmere, and the incredible generosity of Hestia Wright, the former courtesan pledged to help any woman in trouble. But now Marstoke's Love List is threatening her new future - and making her into a weapon forged to destroy her friend.
The request a certain Duke has no wish to hear...
The Duke of Aldmere doesn't believe in meddling. Fate has proven that interfering in personal matters only leads to bigger troubles and personal relationships come at a high price - too often paid by someone he cares for. He has no wish to involve himself in Brynne Wilmott's affairs, despite her spirited beauty and damned tempting mouth. But she's discovered that his brother is mixed up in this business as well, and reluctantly, they agree to work together. Their search leads them through some of London's most dangerous haunts and it quickly becomes clear that Marstoke's plans are more twisted and treasonous than anyone has suspected. Yet the danger and intrigue are as nothing compared to the effect that Nathan and Brynne have on each other....
I bought this book on sale and I'm glad that I did. I really enjoyed the adventure and intrigue of this book. I found this book exciting. And the romance built up nicely between the characters, The narrator did a great job. For me the story is important but no matter how good the story is with a audiobook if the narrator isn't good or their voice doesn't suit the type of book it is ( eg a voice that sounds like my grandmother reading erotica) then I can't listen and return it. I think the narrator did a great job with all the characters and added to the story with her performance. If you love historical romance and a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, then get this one.
The story begins with the Duke of Aldmere walking in on the Marquess of Marstoke and finding him attacking a young woman in a room set far away from the crush they were attending. He quickly finds out that the lady is Bynne Wilmott, the marquess’s finace. Having been saved from a rape, she runs home to her father to tell him about her sadistic fiancé hoping her father would end the engagement. To her horror, her father defends the man and insists their marriage goes on as planned. To protect herself she runs away to the Half moon House run by an ex courtesan Hestia Wright. Shortly after living there and trying to get her life back in order, she discovers the "The Harris List of Covent Garden Ladies" is to be published ruining not only her but also Hestia Wright. Discovering that the author of the list is the Duke of Aldmere’s brother, she asks for his assistance in locating and destroying the list. In the process they discover that the list has a much grander plan.
Though the plot was developed nicely, the ending to this master plan to ruin so many came too easily. Throughout almost the entire book, the story built up the reason behind writing the list and yet within a quick few pages, it all gets resolved and they all live happily ever after.
I also was disappointed that this book was listed under HR and yet not much romance took place except one scene at the very end of the story. I did not want to have the focus of my HR to be mystery, which was what this book should have fallen under. I enjoy mystery when it is nicely balanced with romance but not when it is the primary plot and romance takes a backseat. Misleading for sure. So read it if you enjoy reading mystery novels. I would give this book 4 stars for mystery and a 2 stars for romance.

It was very annoying to try to hear this book. No matter what listening device I tried, the sound was foggy. I even re-downloaded it thinking perhaps there was a problem when I downloaded it initially but nothing worked. Purchase it at your own listening peril.
