Publisher's Summary

They call him the Demon Highlander. The fearsome Lieutenant Colonel Liam MacKenzie is known for his superhuman strength, towering presence, and fiery passion in the heat of battle. As laird to the MacKenzie clan, the undefeated marquess has vanquished his foes with all the rage and wrath of his barbaric Highland ancestors. But when an English governess arrives to care for his children, the master of war finds himself up against his greatest opponent...in the game of love.

Defying all expectations, Miss Philomena is no plain-faced spinster but a ravishing beauty with voluptuous curves and haughty full lips that rattle the laird to his core. Unintimidated by her master's raw masculinity and savage ways, the headstrong lass manages to tame not only his wild children but the beast in his soul. With each passing day, Liam grows fonder of Miss Mena - and more suspicious. What secret is she hiding behind those emerald eyes? What darkness brought her to his keep? And how can he conquer this magnificent woman's heart...without surrendering his own?

Great series - hoping there is more to come!

Any additional comments?

This is the third book in the series, all are excellent alone and outstanding as a series. There is more coming in print PLEASE bring them to Audible too! Amazing strong men who have a weakness for strong but soft women. The characters you love come back in the each story, weaving a continuous tale. Romance, humor, passion, and a scared past with dark secrets all come together in these books in perfect harmony. Perkns brings the characters alive with his consistent narration. He does a suburb job of men, women, and children's voices. Not too predictable, the stories have a few twists and suprises. Byrne's lyrical discriptions are unique in romance novels. She paints a picture of emotions--just sit still and enjoy.

A Fabulous Read and a Wondrous Listen

Would you consider the audio edition of The Highlander to be better than the print version?

I absolutely adorer this audio edition. I find that when I listen, I catch more than having read the written word. Maybe it's the inflection of the emphasis on certain things. Just so good!

What other book might you compare The Highlander to and why?

Of course this book it a perfect follow up to The Highwayman and The Hunter

What about Derek Perkins’s performance did you like?

Mr. Perkins is PERFECT for Kerrigan Byrne's characters. He has an innate understanding of them

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Sheer Brilliance

Delectable Perfection

Kerrigan Byrne's writing becomes more irresistible with each book. The narrator of this book kept me captivated and willing as I shirked all other duties and surrendered my full attention to this heartbreakingly beautiful love story. Prepare yourself for The Demon Highlander!

Another great one from KB

Narrator: Derek Perkins does a great job as usual on these books.

Really liked this one. This series is pretty good. Love the bad boys gone good ((Well not really good but how they care for their women and kids) in each of these.
The very last part of this book was GREAT!
Love how characters from the earlier books come and lend a hand at the end.

Highland Novel Without So Much Blood and Gore!

If you could sum up The Highlander in three words, what would they be?

Very Unusual Concept

Have you listened to any of Derek Perkins’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Derek Perkins is a great narrator for Highlanders and British. He is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

Any additional comments?

I love series books and that is why I purchased this one. I hope to read more in this series.

The Demon of the Highlands

Setting: Wester Ross Scotland 1878
Genre: Romance
3 1/2 stars
Philomena St. Vincent, the Viscountess Benchley, was rescued from an involuntary commitment by people who owed her a debt of gratitude. Giving her a new name and background, these friends sent her to Scotland to be governess to the children of Lieutenant Colonel Liam MacKenzie. She is to remain out of England until her friends clear up the commitment issue. She has some serious anxiety after her stay at the asylum, and she lives in fear of being found out and sent back to the husband who had placed her at the asylum. Liam MacKenzie, the Marquis of Ravencroft, AKA The Demon Highlander, a widower, has recently sold his commission in the Army to return to his home to take up his position as Laird and to raise his children. He found his son and daughter in desperate need for some polish, which Mena is to provide. Me a and Liam find themselves attracted, despite the fact that each is hiding secrets.
Neither of these characters had much dimensionality. He was the brooding Laird all the way through, and she was the woman wrestling with her secrets. There was no humor to lighten the mood. On the other hand, the plot and dialogue kept my attention. I also thought the secondary characters were interesting. There are some sex scenes, making this a PG-16 sort of read, but while explicit, the descriptions are not raunchy.
Overall, this was a nice listen.
