Found my second favorite series!

What did you love best about The Darkest Night?

Great story, I absolutely love how each character has their own person hell they have to deal with.

Who was your favorite character and why?

For now, Lucian, I am very curious about him...

What about Max Bellmore’s performance did you like?

I thought he was wonderful! For those of you who have complained about how slow he speaks, you CAN speed up the narrator. I sped him to 1.5 and it was PERFECT. I love that he has a different voice for every single male character. I love Robert Petkoff but Max is now my other fav!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I absolutely did.

Any additional comments?

Also, people that complain about a book being a "waste" of a credit, you CAN redeem it if you disliked a book.

Started strong, ended weak

So here's my thing: if I'm going to read a gushy romance, then ok, that's cool. But if I pick up a book that looks like the cover of this one does, I'm not looking for sappy romance. I'm looking for hot sex/ sexual tension that eventually leads people to realize they really care for each other. This was kind of the case, but I'm sorry, maybe I'm too much like a guy in that way, but I can't STAND when characters who have known each other for less than a week (regardless of how intense the connection) start dropping the L-bomb like it's going out of style. I dunno, it's almost too much for me and makes the story instantly cheesy and off-putting. No wonder my boyfriend adores me. I'd rather they bump uglies real good so we know how much they care about each other than hear professions of eternal affection. So if you aren't bothered by that, you will probably love this book. It just happens that I don't.

Sounded Like A Good Story - But...

The synopsis sounded good and the reviews tipped me into getting this story. But I found myself thinking "C'mon...something needs to happen."
I felt like the scenes went on far too long than they needed to be. My mind would drift off because of the overly lengthy descriptions that just seemed to go on and on. I had to rewind to find out what the heck I missed. Usually it was nothing.
I really had high hopes for this story. But I think the author was just filling pages. More than once I thought "OK, OK...I know what you're thinking...move on..."

I don't know if it was the narration or just the overall story line, but I connect at all with the characters.

Simply Awful

Perhaps if the underlying story was developed more, this book could have been interesting, but I doubt it. I understand this is essentially a a low-brow romance, but the author could have used more than stock cliche`s throughout an entire book. The characters were barely discernable from one another beyond the physical description and both they and the plot hardly made two dimentions. Overall, it was so predictable that I was near tears by the end. The nearest comparison I have to listening to this book ( or the idea of actually reading it) is of slogging through lowtide mud. The paranormal idea may have suffered less in another writer's hands. My advice to her is to invest in a thesaurus.

The narrator's ' me Tarzan, you Jane' delivery only compounded the pain of the entire experience. Why anyone would move to book two is beyond my poor ability to understand.

Me Caveman, You Tasty Morsel

Four stars for pure fluff. A good romp with a neanderthal in a castle.

As a book, this is seriously just heat. A girl who hears voices gets picked up on the side of a hill and at the top is a castle where all the inhabitants haven't upgraded their English in a century (despite going clubbing each week?) The big brute of a man who plays guard detail has to get killed every night because of a curse so the gal spends the evening in a dank dark cell. Between her fainting and his constant deaths the two finally have some weird desire to latch on to each other and lots of sex.

As a story, it's not so good, but every gal has a fantasy of being manhandled. Every now and then anyway.

Gah! Will it never stop?

I thought the story for this sounded really interesting and could be a fun romance. Instead of being fun, I found the dialog between Maddox and Ashlyn to be forced. The majority of their conversations seemed to be single words. All the men in this novel are to be "big, strong warriors" but instead of having an attractive appeal, it was a complete turn off because they became more like brutes. Every time one of the men spoke (for the most part) all I could think was caveman and "me man, you my women." The attempts to make Maddox seem more emotional just left me thinking "gah!" and seemed unbelievable to me. This book also struck me as being very formulaic. Beautiful virgin finds handsome warrior who reveals a tender side which no one ever knew he had and they have steamy sex, then something happened and must be saved by the handsome warrior. Also, the language and wording used during the multiple sex scenes were turn offs for me and no at all romantic and were repetitive. At one point I just wanted the plot to get moving and skipped ahead during a sex scene by 15 minutes and it was still going. The male reader I also found did not appeal to me. I think he only increased how weird the sex scenes were because he voice didn't change much, it felt very monotone. In the end, I was very happy for this book to be over and don't think I will trying any more by this author.

Unwise to develop the plotline so slowly

This was the first audiobook I have not bothered to finish, I quit roughly an 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. into listening. DON'T waste your time or money. Intriguing concept that was poorly executed.

Narrator kills me!

The book is very entertaining- the narrator reads in slow-motion and pauses at odd intervals- it was extremely off putting. I had to listen to this audio book is segments so that I didn't go crazy.

I am looking forward to adding more of this series to my collection- unless it the same narrator who did this book- if it is- sorry audible- I won't be purchasing them.

Give it a try

Very good-
Interesting new perspective to the characters and actually pretty funny when author felt that the mood may be too dark or disinterested.
