Publisher's summary

Miss Dorothea Darent has no intention of ever getting married, certainly not to a rogue such as the Marquis of Hazelmere. A disreputable scoundrel, he is captivated when they meet by chance and is determined to win her heart, even while she's busy dazzling the rest of London society. Now Dorothea has a choice to make: stick with her plan to remain a respectable spinster, or run into the arms of her dashing stranger.

Enjoyable story, terrible narration.

I enjoyed the story but was terribly distracted by the awful accents of the narrator. The story was good with the unexpectedly well-mannered characters who actually had good reputations and played within the rules of the ton.

Eh

I am not sure if I liked the story. I think so? The reading was quite flat. Plz listen to the narrator before downloading.

Not Simon Prebble, but story is still delightful

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes; Although I prefer Simon Prebble's voice for Miss Laurens novels, this story out weighs all. The narrator's feminine voice gives us a lighter more lyrical voice than usual, but since this story is told from a more feminine point of view than most of Miss Laurens stories it works well and makes this story stand out from her more male Cynster stories.

Overall it's a delightful story!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Tangled Reins?

Dorothea's first encounter with Lord Hazelmere at the berry patch.

What three words best describe Gayle Hendrix’s voice?

lighter more lyrical

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Good story

The story itself, while too PG for my usual tastes, was fine. However the performance was so terrible I’m surprised I managed to finish this book.

I’ve no idea who it was, but this is the only way I can think to describe her performance: think American woman who once saw and English soap opera 25 years ago and is using that memory to create an accent. The ‘posh’ accents and the way the different characters would pronounce words was ridiculous. The inability to stick to one single accent, even for the main character was non-existent. Even within a single sentence poor Dorothea seemed to be from at least three different countries. Multiple times it was impossible to discern which character was even speaking for the narrators inability to adapt multiple tones of voices and many times I could not even tell if it was meant to be the male or the female who was speaking.

Good book

I absolutely liked this book however, the narrator was horrible!! I had to will myself to listen just because I wanted to hear the book. At times, it was like she was reading to children and not adults. Horrible narrator but good book!

Slow Moving

I really did struggle to finish this. The plot was missing. The narrator didn't help. I feel like it was a waste of time.

I can’t believe I made it through the whole thing

This was just awful. As a hard-core Stephanie Laurens fan, I think she was abducted and somebody else wrote this book. The narrator was awful. Ghastly. Not even close to a real English accent. Worse still she tried to fake it. I stuck it out to the end, but it never got any better. How many times did I wince at her pronunciations? If you’re Thinking of trying a Stephanie Laurens book, this is not the one. Ever. Run away!

Awful narrator

The best I can say about this book is that I finished listening to it. The narrator was truly abysmal. Seriously, she’s so bad I don’t understand how this Audiobook even got released! Her speech was ponderous, like someone who has just learned a language and speaks and enunciates very slowly. It made the prose of this book painful and the dialogue deadly. On top of that, she mispronounced words regularly. “Interpreting” became “interpretating,” “countenances” was cahntenances, “edgewise” was “edgeways,” “marquis’” (correctly pronounced with one ‘s’) was “marquise’s”, and I’m sure others have commented on how she mispronounces “ton.”

Don’t waste your time with this one.
