Publisher's Summary

Sometimes the best day of your life is the one you never saw coming.

Joe Cohen has devoted the past two years of his life to one thing: the care and feeding of Kade Bosa. His partner in their PI business, roommate, and best friend, Kade is everything to Joe, even if their relationship falls short of what Joe desires most. But he won’t push. Kade has suffered a rough road, and Joe’s pretty sure he’s the only thing holding Kade together.

Estranged from his own family, Joe knows the value of desperately holding on to someone dear, but he never expected his present and past to collide just as Kade's is doing the same. Now, they’ve stumbled across evidence that could change their lives: the impact of Kade’s tragic past, their job partnership, and any future Joe might allow himself to wish for....

An Excellent Listen

I really enjoyed this books and liked the nuggets to other books the author has written. It is not necessary to read/listen to her other books, but the hidden nuggets are a delight. The book is well written. It is a short book so to some it might appear rushed toward the hea, but I didn't mind it at all since it was so well done. Michael Fell did a splendid job of narration.

lightweight

I was disappointed in how short, disconnected and unremarkable this was compared to other works. And to end with 5 minutes of advertising......

Forever Friends?

If you could sum up Kairos in three words, what would they be?

Intense, Emotional, Sexy

Who was your favorite character and why?

Joe's mother! I swear, for as little page time as she had I loved that damn woman. She's feisty and fierce.

Which character – as performed by Michael Fell – was your favorite?

Joe. He's head over heels in love with his best friend, estranged from his family and though he's smart, dedicated and loyal, there's something missing and you can hear that in the way he's written.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was and I did.

Any additional comments?

Holy.... wow, just wow. There's only one sex scene in this book but it is one of the most intense, sexy, passionate sex scenes every written. Oh, there's a great story here too. *insert evil laugh* I enjoyed the friends to lovers aspect of the story and just how strong the bond between Joe and Kade is because of that friendship. Some people may read or listen to this and think it's insta-love, I assure you, it's not. It's two long years of Joe pining and Kade wearing his silence like a badge slow burning foreplay.

Loved the narration, loved the writing, loved the story. The men remind me a bit of Sam and Jory, the way Jory deliberately challenges Sam's then reaps the benefits, if you get my meaning.

A pleasure to listen to!

This was a pleasure to listen to. I really enjoy Michael Fell's narration. Good character voices (and kudos on the female character voices - really well done!), his pacing was terrific, and he brought the characters and the book to life.

Kairos centers around Private Investigator partners Joe and Kade who are semi-struggling to make their business solvent in Chicago. When circumstances surrounding a favor go sideways, Joe and Kade find themselves protecting a witness and very much needing to get out of town. The tone of the story changes midway and becomes a homecoming for Joe, who left California two (almost three) years ago and hasn't contacted his family since.

Told in Mary Calmes signature style with Joe's single, first person POV I loved what Michael Fell did to showcase Joe's feelings and Kade's growly jealousy. The romance between Joe and Kade is part of the larger plot, and while their passion doesn't really ignite until quite a ways through, for those who love Mary Calmes' writing and her formula for suspense and romance this definitely hits a sweet spot.

Joe and Made, angst-a-go-go

I really liked this short, little book. Like all of Mary Calmes' books, you get quickly sucked in and invested in both of the main characters. Both Joe and Kade drove me nuts, but in a good way. Like I wanted to give them both dope smacks upside the head - hard. How they danced around their smoldering must for each other was enough to make me crazy bananas. But finally, FINALLY, they get it right. And then there's Declan, who nearly stole the whole show.
