Love someone because of their differences!

Love someone because of their differences not in spite of them!

I am an audiobook devourer, at minimum a book a day, seriously, I read A LOT, and mostly romances! I am also a writer, so am aware of the story from a technical point of view. That being said, I still love getting lost in the adventure of the story put before me and still get all the feels from the flutters to the knots and even the tears and the giggles. From the blurb of a book combined with the author's style, if I have read other titles by them, I have a fairly good guess as to what is afoot in the story. It is not quite often that I say to myself, "I didn't see that coming". This story got me twice. Well….. Mostly once with the second time being a "you better be lying" moment!

There was a twist that was totally new and, yes, I didn't see that coming! That was quickly followed by the second surprise that I didn’t see coming and was more of a "you better be lying" moment that had my heart in palpitations. Seriously, I had to take a break and breathe it out … and maybe do some creative cursing to the abandoned rant that had been building inside of me.

I loved it but would have to say to those of you that are like me and need that HEA, be patient. Keep that hope in your heart and it will all work out in the end.

Now to the book itself!

His Pretend Baby is a story about loving someone because of their differences not in spite of them.

The main character, Go, took me for a loop trying to figure out who was actually being addressed as there were too many names being thrown about. Let me simplify it for you. Rodrigo is his birth name, Go is his preferred nickname, Burger is the name his family calls him because he has Asperger. Total A-holes right?

So Nyla dated Marco, which is Go's brother. It didn’t work out with him, but they have a drunken one-night-stand that results in a pregnancy. On the way to tell his current girlfriend what happened, Marco dies in a car accident. Sounds like a jerk move, but in the immortal words of Ross, "they were on a break!"

Go gets the confession out of Nyla before his family finds out and wants her to marry him and say the baby is his in an effort to keep the child with the family. He worries she will leave and the loss will drive his parent's over the edge.

The two of them have chemistry but Nyla doesn’t like lying. Go manipulates the situation to his advantage and gets what he wants and a lot of what he doesn't. Go's perfectly executed life is supposed to go according to "the plan" of his own creation. Nyla is an expert at disruption and puts her skills to good use!

The narrator is Clementine Dove and she does well with multiple characters. Each person has their own voice and it is easy to get lost in the story.

This was my first time reading anything by this author and I definitely want to read more, but I will keep this experience in mind as I moved forward.

I was surprised

That I actually did enjoy this book. While I'm not usually a fan of billionaire romances, this was different than the usual ones. The billionaire has Aspergers and the female lead is pierced and tattooed. I enjoyed the uniqueness of the characters. Although the storyline was a little unrealistic, the sex was steamy and there was a sweet love story in there.

So much more than I expected!!!

I was so wonderfully surprised by this book. The story is full of suspense, romance, and some humor. I have read some books by this author and am amazed with how much character development she can write in a book. The characters she writes about have flaws and issues. The story moves along quite fast and is very good. I thought the narrator did an excellent performance with the various characters and accents. This book is original and a standalone listen. I loved the ending with the unexpected twists! My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. I will definitely listen to more books by the author and narrator. I thought the narrator did a fantastic job with some of the characters (my favorite was the husband with the Russian accent). Different, in a good way!

What did you love best about His Pretend Baby?

I really liked that Go was a character that I have never read before. A very different kind of Geek. Nyla was the perfect match for him and the story flowed well. <br/>Bonus: There were moments that just made me laugh out loud.

What did you like best about this story?

Two favorites: Go and "The Plans". Nyla's first visit to the company.

What does Clementine Dove bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Nice voice. It was easy to tell when she changed characters.

Any additional comments?

This was my first time reading this author and listening to Clementine Dove. I wasn't sure if I would like this book and was very pleasantly surprised. I did guess the cause of the leak but the end played out differently than I anticipated. I will definitely consider reading this author's other book and listening to books narrated by Clementine Dove.

Awesome story!

I absolutely loved this book. So glad I yielded to temptation and purchased it during a sale. Some books you listen to one and done. This will be one I come back to frequently. The narrator did an excellent job of bringing these characters to life. I smiled. I laughed. I got angry with the heroine at the hero. Basically, I got totally caught up in the listening. Highly recommend this to any romance reader.

Very misleading title.

The is story is way beyond what the title makes it out to be. This is a story of a man who is autistic with Aspergers and how he can be successful with the right chick. Someone with background in psychology makes life with him that much easier and can make both of them happy.
Not going to lie, the sex scenes made me a little uncomfortable. It was more than once awkward and weird and I almost had to skip it entirely.

Spoiler, get ready for a hipster culture overload. Its so much that you could vomit from it at times. All in all, its an ok story.

I like to read other reviews to get a feel if I would like the book. The review for this sounded like it was a fantastic listen. When I started it felt to me a little ify. I decided to just wait it out a bit and I am so glad I did! I loved loved the characters and story! The narrator was good also-:). 5 STARS!

Great story...just short

Great twist on the love story but it just seemed like it was over just as it started getting good. There is so much more story that could have been told and written. still a good book.

Fun, easy listen with a pair of unique characters

This is my first Theodora Taylor book and my first time listening to Clementine Dove. Ms. Dove did a great job narrating this story. Her voice flowed well and she handled the various characters easily. I would definitely listen to another one of her narrations in the future. The story itself was entertaining, and I enjoyed how unique the story itself was, as were Nyla and Go (Rodrigo). Go is borderline on the autism spectrum and is also a billionaire and used to everyone following his plans to the T. Nyla seems to be pretty street smart and has gone through her own troubles in the past, and there is some residual emotional damage there. Ms. Taylor did a great job crafting a unique story with two flawed characters who eventually fall in love...with a few hiccups along the way, all in an effort to cover up the fact that she got pregnant by Go's recently deceased brother.

This is a standalone story, so you won't feel as if you need to read another book to finish the story. You'll totally be surprised by the ending. It pretty much comes out of left field. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.
