Publisher's summary

Genevieve McInnis is locked behind the fortified walls of McHugh Keep, captive of a cruel laird who takes great pleasure in ruining her for any other man. Yet when Bowen Montgomery storms the gates on a mission of clan warfare, Genevieve finds that her spirit is bent but not broken. Still, her path toward freedom remains uncertain. Unable to bear the shame of returning to a family that believes her dead or to abandon others at the keep to an imposing new laird, Genevieve opts for the peaceful life of an abbess. But Bowen's rugged sensuality stirs something deep inside her that longs to be awakened by his patient, gentle caress - something warm, wicked, and tempting.

Bowen seizes his enemy's keep, unprepared for the brooding and reclusive woman who captures his heart. He's enchanted by her fierce determination, her unusual beauty, and her quiet, unfailing strength. But wooing her will take more than a seasoned seducer's skill. For loving Genevieve, he discovers, means giving her back the freedom that was stolen from her - even if it means losing her forever.

Another Winner

I love this series, love Kristen Potter narrating this book and am really looking forward to more installments. This wasn't my favorite of this author but it was still great to listen to.

It's as good as book one

Get book one first. This is a great series. More romance and less erotica than Maya normally writes. It's a fun world to get lost in for a few hours.

Highlander Most Wanted

This is the second book in the series. If you read the first book you would know what Bowen Montgomery was doing, somewhat. The reason for the two clans making war on the McHugh keep will be revealed in this book. Genevieve McInnis has been held in this place for over a year. She has been prisoner and bed warmer to the lairds son. Her face scored with a blade by the sadistic man. So she hids away. But now with the Montgomerys in place maybe she can find a champion and leave. But when more secrets and lies told by the McHugh people will she ever get away? Bowen is torn. He is starting to have feelings for the lass whom everyone calls a whore. But are all as it seems there? What of her family? Where are they? I have read this in the past and was again able to enjoy the run of emotions in the rereading. Can't wait to read the next book. The narration kept me up till the end.

Very Touching...had me hooked

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, this story was very heart breaking and heart warming all at the same time. Definitely worth a credit.

What did you like best about this story?

Bowen.. I loved how he was everything you would hope a man would be. Tough and tender at the same time. He was awesome, every girls dream.

Have you listened to any of Kirsten Potter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not sure, but she did an excellent job. Would listen to her again.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Oh my gosh, so many! This was a fantastic book.

A little heavy… might be a trigger for some…

I don’t know whats up with my book selections lately, but this is the second book in a row that was heavily plotted with rape. I am actually someone who reads these historical novels and doesn’t get overly upset on the occasional “rape” scene. Like a husband and wife type thing. I’m not a fan of rape by any means, but in those kinds of things, it’s fleeting and I’m able to identify it as fiction. But, these last two books were so heavy with it as the main plot, it was just ugly and identifiable. I don’t want to identify with rape and abuse throughout an entire book. I appreciate that there were heros to help them get through it, but I don’t really want to be coming to my fictional escape in a historical romance, to read heavy literature. Also, it made the intimate scenes super cringy. Other than that, it was a good enough story.

Kristen Potter was ok. Not my favorite, but I would listen to her again if she came up.

I got this on sale for $9 and because it was the second in a series, it was worth it. However, if this had been a standalone I would 100% have returned it.

STEP BACK IN TIME & PREPARE TO BE CAPTURED BY THIS

Phew - well I've just finished this harrowing Highland tale that tells of the darkest of cruelty and torment but also tells of the joy of redemption along with salvation as the acts of tenderness and forgiveness eventually brings healing and the deepest of love.

Maya Banks never fails in her role as an author to deliver to her fans a book that captivates you from the first chapter until the last and within those chapters she packs them full with great characters and conjures a story that is tragic, heartwarming, tender and sooo romantic. They never fail to reach your heart and you just know that this will be one you could easily revisit and will never forget because, for a short while, you lived amongst these Highland characters and felt their anguish, anger, torment, pleasure and passion.

The narrator did a great job too in breathing life and emotion to each of the characters and the situations that they found themselves in.

Worth a credit? Well, as long as Maya keeps writing these wonderful books then I'll happily keep buying them and then long for the next.... so I guess that's a big fat YES.
