Publisher's summary

In feudal England, Elizabeth Montwright barely escaped the massacre that destroyed her family and exiled her from her ancestral castle. Bent on revenge, she rode again through the fortress gates, disguised as a healer...to seek aid from Geoffrey Berkley, the powerful baron who had routed the murderers.

He heard her pleas, resisted her demands, and vowed to seduce his beautiful subject. Yet as Elizabeth fought the warrior's caresses, love flamed for this gallant man who must soon champion her cause...and capture her spirited heart!

i forgot

i love most of Julie Garwood's novels and when audible had their $4.95 sale and i saw she had a couple of books listed i immediately put them in my cart not checking reviews or the narrator out prior to purchase. the story was fine nothing special but it was okay how ever the narrator was/is so annoying and i had made my self a promise to never purchase a book narrated by this narrator again. well not only did i get this book, i got two of them by the same narrator and now i will have to cringe my way through the next book if i can. such a shame such a talented writer's books have to be ruined by the narrator.

the same narrator as The Prize....

I was excited to see another unabridged novel by Julie Garwood on audible. I have read the book years ago and remember liking it. I downloaded it only to realize that it is the same narrator as The Prize. I don't think I can finish it. The narrator is bad. Really Bad! Make sure you listen to the sample before you purchase this audiobook.

Good book Annoying Narration

Where does Gentle Warrior rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I enjoyed the story and the way the charaters were developed throughout the book. This is the second Julie Garwood book I have listened to. The Bride was the first and was narrated by Rosalyn Landor who did a much better job that Anne Flosnik

What did you like best about this story?

I actually loved the story it had mystery, sex, murder and love, however I found difficult to get involved because of the performance...

What didn’t you like about Anne Flosnik’s performance?

I did not like Anne's performance at all. Anne Flosnik is too overly dramatic in her performances. The male voices in particular were terrible.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Anne Flosnik is too overly dramatic performance

Any additional comments?

Anne Flosnik needs a coach or someone to listen to her voice before the book is released.

Love Julie Garwood historicals

I've been reading historical romances for over 40 years and Julie Garwood has always been a favorite. Yes, they are somewhat predictable but that goes along with historical romances. I always enjoy Anne Flosnik's performances of romances set in feudal and victorian England. Even though it's slow in a few places, when placed in context, the slowing is appropriate. I don't expect a female narrator to portray a solid male voice as long as I can tell the difference, and in that respect, she does well. Her British accent adds authenticity to the read.

I Liked It!

This book has all the elements that make up a good Historical Romance story, although the sexual and arguing scenes were a little over the top for me.

I thought Ann Flosnik did an excellent job. In my opinion she's a good actress and I can't understand anyone giving her negative reviews. Her ability to change her voice, accurately portraying the different characters each time they speak, is truly a gift. It's very hard for a women to sound like one man, much less several different men...and women. A narrator can make or break a story, and Ann Fosnik's performance makes this story.

A bad narrator can kill a good book!

I ADORE Julie Garwood. Let me preface this review with the fact that I have read, re-read, listened, and re-listened to every historical book of hers at least 4x. I found this book on Audible and couldn't believe I hadn't listened before.

Sigh...all I can say is you lost me at the first chapter. I couldn't follow the narrator and her super deep breathing and drawn out last word of every sentence. I couldn't distinguish between voices, and her cadence is off. Simply put, I zoned out after the first chapter and will be requesting a credit return. So disappointed because I wanted to love it. Will have to consider the book.

Narrator is the worst

After two tries at listening to books narrated by Anne Flosnik, I've decided that it's not worth the torture. Such a shame since Julie Garwood books are so fantastic. Her work is banned from my library. To anyone considering purchasing one of the books she's narrated, be sure to listen to the snippets provided by Audible. Most annoying voice ever!

BORING YEAR IN THE LIFE OF NEWLY-WEDS

The short prologue was the only interesting part of this book as the rest of the story did not follow suit. The prologue described a mighty warrior who, right before a battle, saw a vision of a lovely female with a hawk and two wolf-like dogs. That was as interesting as they got. The rest of the story had the unimpressive hero/heroine meeting right away, falling for each other and marrying immediately. The next 11 hours were a repetitive account of the newly-weds trying to get used to each other and trying to change the many parts about each other they didn't like. The characters were never really developed, so I never had any interest in them. Besides, they whined far too much.

The mystery wasn't really a mystery. A family was murdered before the book even began and the hero knew who was responsible, but wasn't naming names. I forced myself to keep listening, thinking he'd bring it up near the end. Wrong. He named the villain mid-way through so it was only by sheer determination that I finished this boring tale. The only part I enjoyed was the very last line of the book.

Anne Flosnik is one of my least favorite narrators as she is too overly dramatic in her performances but this certainly wasn't one of her worst readings.

Disapointed

I enjoy the book but it is frustrating trying to listen to the book with the narrator constantly sounding like a buffoon. She is unable to give any credit or depth to the characters when she is trying to do male voices. It sounds like a joke. If she wants to do a dramitised version then she should get a male to do the male voices or just read the book straight.

Love this story

Most of her books are set in Scotland and England a very long time ago. They are always a sweet love story with a lot of fighting of the knights or lords. They are very romantic. She knows how to write sex scenes without being crude. I hope she continues to write for a long time.
