Publisher's Summary

A hand-picked cadre of warriors, they had the fierce courage of their Scots forefathers, combined with the stealth and cunning of the Indians who lived beside them in the wilderness. Battling the French in a no-holds-barred combat, they forged a new brand of honor, became a new breed of men - MacKinnon's Rangers.

Iain MacKinnon had been forced to serve the British crown, but compassion urged him to save the lovely lass facing certain death at the hands of the Abenaki. He'd defied his orders, endangered his brothers, his men and his mission, all for a woman. But when he held Annie's sweet body in his arms, he could feel no regret. Though he sensed she was hiding something from him, it was too late to hold back his heart.

In love and war, there are times when the only course of action is...surrender.

Oh My God Yes

I rented this book via the Romance Package but I’m going to spend real money to buy this for real. Incredible narration including British, Scottish, Irish, French, and Native American accents. Good battle action, good subterfuge, good romance. Added to my list of favorites halfway through.

Epic Historical Love Story

Wow, this story is brilliantly written with such attention to detail for the time period. There is such rich depth of characters that you'll feel like you know them and you'll miss them when it's over. There's Iaian and Annie the principal characters. Then there are Morgan and Conner, Iaian's brothers, Joseph, their Indian brother, Killy a feisty Irishman and so many others to love. Wentworth "the wee German Lairdy " is their commander and he's equally interesting, of course you want to choke his neck sometimes.
I highly recommend this book to anyone. It has battle action, comedy and a beautiful love story in a historical setting that's so real you feel like you're in it. Enjoy!

LOVE PAMELA CLARE & KALEO GRIFFITH!

Wonderful story placed in an interesting period of American history! Performed very well by Kaleo Griffith. I'm a big fan of Pamela Clare's works but had my doubts about this historical series. She pulled me into the story at the very beginning. Who knew that the military branch known as the Rangers actually had it's beginnings in the mid 1700's. Absolutely loved the whole series and hated to see it end!

Surrender to a Beautiful Story of Courage and Love

This book has it all....Indians, Scottish Highlanders, Royalty, and Romance. (This story is packed with history based around the Albany area of New York State.) It is a beautiful book that is filled with sacrifice, courage, compassion, bravery, desire, love and romance.

Within the first couple of chapters I was drawn into the story of Iain and Annie. The heartbreak and conflicts that both had to endure was deplorable and I knew immediately I had to find out if they overcome their struggles. Of course, there was lots of "smoldering fire" between them which also helped to keep me listening!

The narrator did an excellent job. He had many accents (English, French, Scottish, Native American) to deal with.....not to mention the male/female voices. He made it easy to distinguish the different voices.......which I appreciate.

Cant wait for another book in this series.

Warning Needed

I wasn't particularly enjoying this book, but was determined to stick it out. The main problem was the main male character, Ian, who seemed a bit of a jerk. That is, until the main female character, Annie, was the victim of an attempted rape. Thinking that she'd actually been raped by another man, Ian took it upon himself to reclaim her by forcing her to have sex with him. This was bad enough, But Annie was okay with it. She submitted and enjoyed herself. And at this point, I quit reading. How anybody could finish such a book is beyond me.

Narcoleptic Heroine

Where to start. I got sucked in by all the great reviews but I can't believe I was listening to the same book they were. The main character had promise, the heroine was horrible. Constantly saying "Mercy", constantly tired and falling asleep and the author had both characters basically narrating what the other character said or did in previous chapters all the time. It was like listening to the same story told twice in the same book from the other POV. Sex scenes when you finally got to them were OK but not particularly imaginative and if I heard of Ian's testicles called "stones" one more time I was going to scream.

As far as the narrator goes, he has potential but I don't think he did female voices well. Male voices - fine. But to be fair I think he had awful material to work with. I will say that I feel the narrator could use work on how he reads portions of the book between actual dialog segments...it just seemed like he couldn't anticipate the sentence structure well.

I would not read any more books by this author but might try something else by the narrator.
