Publisher's Summary

Four years ago, Emily Shea and Staff Sergeant Brett Leeds agreed to part with no strings attached. Sparks flew during their brief affair, but fate intervened, sending Brett overseas. When an unexpected pregnancy derailed Emily's own plans, her attempts to locate Brett were soon overwhelmed by the challenges of single motherhood. Now, Brett has returned home, and Emily is forced to share her secret.

Despite feeling betrayed, Brett is determined to forge a relationship with their son, Tyler. As the former lovers battle both their inner demons and their mutual desire, another presence enters their lives - Tyler's imaginary friend. Soon, however, the chilling evidence points to a different conclusion: A ghost has formed a dangerous connection with their son.

Emily's attempts to help both a lost soul and a friend in need spiral toward a deadly confrontation, and Brett must race to save Emily before he loses her again forever.

More than a Ghost Story!

What a book! I loved the original storyline this book had. The imaginary friend of their son was so much more than expected. I loved how the couple healed each other and revealed their secrets. The book has some very unexpected twists in the story, which added to it. This book is part romance, part suspense, and part paranormal which worked out so well. I was pulled into the book from the very beginning and thought the ending was so fitting. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I thought the narration on this book added to the enjoyment, with the distinguished voices for various characters. I will definitely listen to more books by Kathryn Knight and Kristin James.

Stunning

First, loved this audio.
I was hooked from the very beginning. Emily Shea and Staff Sergeant Brett Leeds agreed to part with no strings attached. So why when he comes back 4 years later he's all pissed off when Emily tells him about his son? Men! Their son Tyler has an imaginary friend. (Chills!) Holy crap, so good! Kathryn Knight wrote a wonderful book. Loved it!
Kristin James narrated perfect! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. To be honest I would not have chosen Haunted Souls. So glad I did! I am planning on a second listen. Job well done.
Can't wait to hear more of Kathryn and Kristin.

Loved this!

Great mix of a ghost story and a second chance romance. Loved the story and the characters, Emily, Brett, Tyler, and of course Josiah were very entertaining and I loved the revisit of Claire and Max from Gull Harbour. Great narrator, she had unique voices for each character. I received a review copy of this audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

AMAZING STORY – WELL DONE!

HAUNTED SOULS is a stand-alone, contemporary romantic suspense with a paranormal element. This is not a series, but Claire and Max from Gull Harbor do return for a couple of chapters!

There were a lot of references to Emily’s friend, Caitlyn. So much so, that I looked to see if one of Ms. Knight’s previous books featured her, but alas it does not appear to be.

I don’t often mention the book covers, because I’m not usually swayed one way or the other by the cover. Let’s face it, on Kindle or Audiobook the cover is rarely noted past the time of purchase. This time I want to just say that it is a perfect representation. It is a lovely collage of the most important elements of the story with an equal balance of dark and light. Kudos to the artist.

I loved this story that balanced the history of mid-eighteenth century America with the present day life on Cape Cod and the lives of three little boys and their mothers…yes three, because Tyler has a schoolmate whose family story is integral to the plot.

So many emotions were brought out, explored, and embraced. From the opening line, Emily’s raw fear and anxieties are evident. Life has beaten her down, until she is the type to faint in fear, but she remains as strong as possible for her little boy. Of course, I was cheering for the man who was a fleeting fling four years ago to become her knight in shining armor. Read it and find out if he did.

I think at this point, I would read a cereal box if it were written by Ms. Kathryn Knight. I look forward to her bringing me more of her audiobooks as they become available.

Narration: The narrator, Kristin James did a wonderful job of bringing each character their own voice. My favorite was her portrayal of Tyler. She does a three and a half year old boy beautifully in all of his mercurial moods.

Note: while I was given this book as a gifted audiobook copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Ghost Story!

This is the second book in the Series. I love this story. I love Emily. She's kind and caring. Brett is full of anguish and anger (and suffer from PTSD), but he learns to open himself to Emily. He's protective with Emily and their son, Tyler. The story is very well written and the storyline is suspenseful, intriguing and captivating from the first page to the end. The twists and turns added interest to the story. Children's Imaginary friends always scare me! And Tyler's imaginary friend also scared me. I love how Emily and Brett learn to trust each other and I love their second chance love story. I loved to see Claire and Max from Gull Harbor, even though it was a short appareance. I like interconnected characters. The narration was great, with all these characters and easy to listen. I'm looking forward to listen to more books written by Kathryn Knight and narrated by Kristin James. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Haunted Souls

Emily goes on a haunted tour with her friend and their small kids. When they visit the old jail a spirit attaches himself to her son. And we have all heard children are more open to this, so of course he can see and communicate with the spirit. Sadly the ghost is a boy too looking for his mom. As Emily introduces her son, Tyler, to his father and they all try to get accustomed to their new roles in each others lives the ghost gets more involved. Finally Emily realizes what is going on and looks for an expert to help with the haunting. Claire from book 1 makes an appearance to help out, but a short appearance, as each book so far appears to be standalone. Emily's friend that went on the tour adds a whole other level to the story. Very nice narration by Kristin James.

Grew to love it!

From the beginning I had to slow down the narration a tiny bit. Lines ran together for me, but as soon as I did that everything ran smoothly. I enjoyed the different character voices and inflection put into them.
The story itself was a bit hard to get into at first but quickly drew me in to where I listened every spare moment. I had an issue with the "man pride" situation but it did fit in with a military man. Everything worked out for me except...now I want to know what happens next!
