Publisher's summary

In this pulse-pounding and thrillingly sensual novel, New York Times best-selling author Lara Adrian returns to the mesmerizing world of the Midnight Breed, following new characters into a dark future where an uneasy peace can unravel into war - and a great betrayal can mask an all-consuming love.

Twenty years after the terror of First Dawn - when mankind learned that vampires lived secretly among them - the threat of violence reigns as the two species struggle to coexist. The only group preserving the fragile harmony is the Order, an elite cadre of Breed warriors dedicated to protecting humans and vampires alike. And in this precarious world of torn loyalties and shattered trust, Mira, a fiery squad captain, finds that every fight bears an intensely personal cost.

Raised among the Order, Mira has always believed in the warrior’s code of swift - and even lethal - justice. But the one thing she desires more than the Order’s hard-won acceptance is Kellan Archer, a sexy but troubled Breed fighter. In love with him since childhood, Mira once broke through his tough exterior during an unexpected night of rapture, but the next day he mysteriously disappeared, never to return.

Kellan didn’t think he would ever see Mira again - or have to confront the truth of why he left. After abandoning the Order years ago, he now leads a band of human rebels intent on carrying out their own vigilante rule of law. Yet a high-profile kidnapping assignment brings him face-to-face with the past he sought to avoid, and the striking woman he has tried desperately to forget. And as tensions mount and the risk of bloodshed grows, Kellan and Mira must take sides - between the competing missions that dominate their lives, and the electrifying passion that claims their hearts.

A Little Disappointed at First

I have anticipated this book ever since I saw that Lara Adrian was coming up with a new book for the Midnight Breed series. To me, the book moves a little slow at first. There were some unexpected twists, and the characters were really well developed as they are in all her books. However, the buildup seems to take a long time. in truth, I didn’t start to truly enjoy the book until part two of the novel. However, I listened in hopes that things would change, and they did.

I did like the fact that we were able to see all the characters from past books such as Lucan and Gabriel. Ms. Adrian gives a glimpse into the characters’ lives over the last two decades. We meet the children of the mates from the earlier novels and get to see the warriors and their mates. I think the only mated couple that is not mentioned are Clare and Andre.

While the first part of the novel did a great deal of catching us up on what’s happened for the past two decades, there is a romance going on, a kidnapping, conspiracy, and treason issues, and Mirror is in deeper than she initially thought. The one thing I truly loved about this novel is that Mirror grew up to be a kickass woman that can take care of herself. She’s a little high strung and vicious at times, but she’s a good fighter and a wonderful woman. The end of the book not only surprised me, but made me want to call Ms. Adrian and tell her to hurry up with the next book because there has to be a next book. Seeing Nathan, Kellin, and Rafe all grown up was treat too. In the end, I was surprised, pleased, and eagerly awaiting more.

Yay! New series discovered...

And now to start enjoying them 😁 I love the characters and world created by Ms Adrian. This is the first in the Midnight Breed series I have listened to (others before this one not available on Audible) and wonder why I’m only discovering this series now.
Ms Huber does a great job with the narration of this story, so worth a credit for paranormal romance readers 😉

Great new beginning for the next generation!

What does Hillary Huber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love how she can bring the characters to life for me. She does the female and male voices very well. There is distinction between the vocies.

Any additional comments?

Love this series and can't wait for the next book. Adrian has opened a whole new cast of characters and story lines so we don't have to say good-bye to the ones we love so well. It's definitely fun to see who has had children and how their stories will unfold.

I didn't know vampires were from the Valley

What made the experience of listening to Edge of Dawn the most enjoyable?

The story was great and an excellent bridge to continue this series.

How could the performance have been better?

I almost stopped listening several times because the narrator had some of the worst voices associated with characters! The main female sounded like she was a combination of Zooey Deschanel and an LA Valley girl. I kept waiting to hear "Oh my God, Becky, look at her butt," as the next line. The male voices sounded like she was speaking through gritted, clenched teeth with intention gruffness. All the male characters sounded the same except for the horrid Texas accent. Would never, ever buy anything by this narrator again.

Another Great one!!!

Mira and Kellan how awesome. Thank you Lara for continuing the series. I am addicted to these stories. It was also nice that she incorporated the Original Order and now we get to be a part of their kids and how they have matured have become an integral part of The Order. Hilary Huber is perfect she brings this story to life for me. If you have not heard the entire series you are short changing yourself. Happy listening I am patiently awaiting the next one.

Not my favorite of hers but....

Not one of my favorites but still good. The two main characters were hard for me to connect with so that was a problem but I did like the overall plot that involves all The Order. That part was good. I'll still read these as they come out but I didn't think this one was quite as good as the ones before.

Also I think part of it is this felt like a chunk of transition in the world and that can always be a problem.

Good narrator.

Hot!

Would you listen to Edge of Dawn again? Why?

Yes. Great story! Very sexy. Keeps you on the edge.

What other book might you compare Edge of Dawn to and why?

The black dagger brotherhood series: can't specifically compare to another book, yet similar to this series. Really good story, great action and twists that you do not necessarily see coming. Hot male vampires!

Have you listened to any of Hillary Huber’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Similar

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Love Lost Found

Any additional comments?

Highly recommended. One of the best books in the midnight breed series.

Great story

I have read the previous breed novels and this adds on to the story by introducing the originators of the breed mates.....I am interested to see how this develops!
