Light sci-fi romance

I sometimes feel chagrined when I give fewer stars to an audiobook that most other reviewers have rated highly. For this audiobook, I give both the story and the narration three stars.

Narration preferences are very subjective, but I found it hard to get through the narration of this audiobook because the narrator emoted a wee bit too much for my comfort. Within the first three minutes of the narration I knew that I wouldn't be able to emotionally engage with the heroine because of the way the narrator gave voice to Sky's anxiety/panic/dread/hysteria. It sounded like she was experiencing significant post-traumatic stress for most of the book. For the same reason, the hero didn't resonate with me either - he didn't sound like a very attractive or compelling man, given the voice that the narrator used for his character. I'm aware that this narrator has done lots of work in children's literature, and I can definitely appreciate how her vocal style would fit well with that genre. But for this story, I increased the playback speed and focused on the content.

I thought that the story was okay. The plot made sense and was interesting. It's a light romantic sci-fi story with some steaminess and no real tension between the main characters - they both deny their attraction to eachother at the start, but find their happily ever after by the time the story is finished. The dynamics between the hero and heroine were very predictable, with no surprises.

What I did find interesting, and what makes me curious about seeing how this series progresses, were the cast of supporting characters. Most of the supporting characters resembled personalities I've seen in other series (e.g., by Ward, Showalter, Cole, or Singh), but there was one secondary character - a cyborg - who did pique my interest. If RA Steffan writes a stand-alone story for that particular character, I'd definitely be interested in reading it! Anyway, I think that Steffan did a much better job of developing the supporting characters and making them unique and interesting, compared to the hero/heroine.

Fun sci-fi book

Pretty good listen, liked the story and premise. The narration was ok, the narrator got a little too whiney and dramatic with the lead female which made it a bit annoying at points.

Don’t waste a credit

Took me several weeks to get through this book! It’s bad from beginning to end! Not worth the credit or money. Has No real hard plot other than saving the city! WTF, the writing is a bit weak to be honest. Tess Dawn is one of my favorites in this genre I would dare say R A Steffan have a read of any of her books. This book is very predictable and tiresome. The narration was equally bad!! Just wow (not a good wow either)!

Alien Races, Attempted Genocide, Unexpected Bonding

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

An antidote for a poison that will kill humans taken in hopes of stopping genocide. It is an alien race, known as the Regime , uses, abuses and kills humans. Sky, human, is escaping with the antidote when her ship crashes. She is saved by rebels ( who have a terrible reputation) Save her. They are made up of one human, 4 aliens like the regime and a cyborg.
Hunter is the leader of the rebels...who upon meeting Sky recognizes her as his mate.
The characters are all different, all likable, and interesting. The narrator did great job differing them from each other.
The tension whether they will be successful saving a large population..the beginning of love...grief of loss of family. I loved this story. It was slow the first chapter and then i got so hooked I couldn’t stop listening. Can’t wait for more stories from this group!
the narrator puts fantastic emotion when necessary..has monotone when correct..just incredible. So surprised how much I loved this book

Great sci-fi action romance!

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook story, set in a sci-if world where humans are being oppressed on a planet by their co-inhabitants who rule there. Our heroine is the human daughter of a scientist who is forced by the evil rulership to create a bio-weapon to be used against the human population of the planet. Her father gives her the formula for the antidote and is killed as she escapes, only to crash land on another planet where the resistance fighters are holed up. The leader is a formidable alien known as “The Rook” in the media, vilified and terrifying to the heroine. Little does she know that these are the rough but capable allies she is seeking to stop the destruction of her fellow humans. The romance between the heroine and hero is sexy but not overly salacious. Lots of action and tension, this story is well written. The narrator did an excellent job of carrying all the voices and giving them life! I’m looking forward to more by this author!

Glad I joined in for the ride

I have listened to Gwendolyn Druyor read a story before and really enjoyed it. So when I saw she had recorded a new story I thought I would give it a go even tho it not normally a genre I would chose, I am so glad I did Gwendolyn was excellent as the narrator but I also really enjoyed the story. I might be making the move from mysteries over to fantasy syfy, if they are all like this one. Loved the action and the bonds between each character.

Great start to a series

I was looking forward to this book and was not disappointed at all.

Talk about being pulled in from the first sentence. The synopsis tells you everything you need to know about the story except that it's a very entertaining and enjoyable story that grabs you from the first sentence and pulls you right in. It's also a fast paced engaging story full of action, intrigue and suspense with a little romance and a HEA. You'll want to keep your earbuds in. Things get pretty steamy at times.

A ship full of rogue rebels including Aliens, an AI and a human are Skye's only chance to save humanity. As Skye learns you should never judge a person(s) by their looks or in this case species.

Great cast of well rounded and interesting characters. Each character had a distinct personality and backstory. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series and each of them having their own story.

Gwendolyn Druyor did a great job with the narration. She has pleasant voice that is easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Good characters voices and accents. Both male and female. It was always easy to tell which character was speaking. She brought the characters and story to life. Very enjoyable.

Love always finds a way in war.

I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I have to admit that when I first received this audiobook I was 100% excited!!! I love Sci-Fi and I love finding new authors and I love a new take and new 'aliens'. I love that Earth was not the planet that the humans were on. I would have loved a back story on this new world and how humans and 'aliens' came to live on one planet.

I love Sky and Hunter. I loved the fact that it was not an instant love fest. They did not meet fall into bed and the fall in love within 6 hours. I like the gradual build up of their relationship. I also loved all the other characters. There are so many questions that I need answered and I cannot wait to continue to follow this journey.

I like the narrator as well. She did a wonderful job doing different voices when it came to the characters. Sometimes every character seems to sound a like however Gwendolyn did not do that. She brought all the characters to life. This is the fist audiobook that I have heard from her and I will be on the lookout for other books that she has narrated.
