Publisher's Summary

They're fighting the same battle. They just don't know it yet.

Skye Chantrell has just escaped a war zone.

She's carrying the stolen antidote to a deadly bioweapon.

When her damaged shuttle crashes on a remote lunar outpost, she's captured by the leader of a rogue group of barbaric aliens. Now her people's survival - not to mention her own - rests in the hands of the Seven Systems' most feared and hated criminal.

A man with the face of a brutal thug, and the eyes of an angel.

Hunter Tarthasian has every reason to hate the Regime.

He and his comrades have turned vigilante, vowing to use every means at their disposal to bring down the evil Premiere. Now, they're hunted and on the run, holed up in an abandoned outpost while they plan their next move. The last thing Hunter needs is a female human civvy with a terrible secret crash-landing on his doorstep. Especially when she starts to awaken feelings in him that he can't afford right now.

Feelings that could very easily get all of them killed.

From award-winning author R. A. Steffan comes a sizzling new sci-fi romance series, perfect for fans of J. R. Ward and Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Strap in tight, because all's fair in Love and War.

    "Great start to a series"

I was looking forward to this book and was not disappointed at all.

Talk about being pulled in from the first sentence. The synopsis tells you everything you need to know about the story except that it's a very entertaining and enjoyable story that grabs you from the first sentence and pulls you right in. It's also a fast paced engaging story full of action, intrigue and suspense with a little romance and a HEA. You'll want to keep your earbuds in. Things get pretty steamy at times.

A ship full of rogue rebels including Aliens, an AI and a human are Skye's only chance to save humanity. As Skye learns you should never judge a person(s) by their looks or in this case species.

Great cast of well rounded and interesting characters. Each character had a distinct personality and backstory. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series and each of them having their own story.

Gwendolyn Druyor did a great job with the narration. She has pleasant voice that is easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Good characters voices and accents. Both male and female. It was always easy to tell which character was speaking. She brought the characters and story to life. Very enjoyable.

    "Fun sci-fi book"

Pretty good listen, liked the story and premise. The narration was ok, the narrator got a little too whiney and dramatic with the lead female which made it a bit annoying at points.

"Love always finds a way in war."

I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I have to admit that when I first received this audiobook I was 100% excited!!! I love Sci-Fi and I love finding new authors and I love a new take and new 'aliens'. I love that Earth was not the planet that the humans were on. I would have loved a back story on this new world and how humans and 'aliens' came to live on one planet.

I love Sky and Hunter. I loved the fact that it was not an instant love fest. They did not meet fall into bed and the fall in love within 6 hours. I like the gradual build up of their relationship. I also loved all the other characters. There are so many questions that I need answered and I cannot wait to continue to follow this journey.

I like the narrator as well. She did a wonderful job doing different voices when it came to the characters. Sometimes every character seems to sound a like however Gwendolyn did not do that. She brought all the characters to life. This is the fist audiobook that I have heard from her and I will be on the lookout for other books that she has narrated.

    "Excellent!"

Fantastic listen! Loved the world and characters and it has a fast-paced and engaging storyline. I love Skye and Hunter and didn't want their story to end. Will definitely be on the lookout for the rest of the series. The narrator was excellent, differences in accent and voice for each character. Highly recommend for fans of Sherrilyn Kenyon's The League series. I received a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

    "enjoyable scifi"

I enjoyed listening to this story where a group of rebels of the alien race is saving humans from total annihilation by helping out a human fugitive in her quest. The story is intense from the start and engaging throughout, so I found myself cheering them on and urging the main characters to 'see' what was there they should see, that they were mates. Loved Hunter and Skye is his perfect match. It ends in HEA which is the best.

My first listen from Ms. Druyor, she has a very emotive voice especially when Skye was in danger or emotionally charged. Enjoyed it throughout.

    "Lacking"

Not sure why I am left with feeling of disappointment. Nice romantic love with a spicy sex scene. there just seemed to be a lack of depth. A lack of information on the alien species and the interaction with them and the humans could be a lot of it. There currently isn't a sequel and I am not tempted by the idea. Right now I am debating on whether to buy another book from this author or not.

    "Light sci-fi romance"

I sometimes feel chagrined when I give fewer stars to an audiobook that most other reviewers have rated highly. For this audiobook, I give both the story and the narration three stars.

Narration preferences are very subjective, but I found it hard to get through the narration of this audiobook because the narrator emoted a wee bit too much for my comfort. Within the first three minutes of the narration I knew that I wouldn't be able to emotionally engage with the heroine because of the way the narrator gave voice to Sky's anxiety/panic/dread/hysteria. It sounded like she was experiencing significant post-traumatic stress for most of the book. For the same reason, the hero didn't resonate with me either - he didn't sound like a very attractive or compelling man, given the voice that the narrator used for his character. I'm aware that this narrator has done lots of work in children's literature, and I can definitely appreciate how her vocal style would fit well with that genre. But for this story, I increased the playback speed and focused on the content.

I thought that the story was okay. The plot made sense and was interesting. It's a light romantic sci-fi story with some steaminess and no real tension between the main characters - they both deny their attraction to eachother at the start, but find their happily ever after by the time the story is finished. The dynamics between the hero and heroine were very predictable, with no surprises.

What I did find interesting, and what makes me curious about seeing how this series progresses, were the cast of supporting characters. Most of the supporting characters resembled personalities I've seen in other series (e.g., by Ward, Showalter, Cole, or Singh), but there was one secondary character - a cyborg - who did pique my interest. If RA Steffan writes a stand-alone story for that particular character, I'd definitely be interested in reading it! Anyway, I think that Steffan did a much better job of developing the supporting characters and making them unique and interesting, compared to the hero/heroine.

"Great start to a new series"

WOW! I love this new series. This first book is full of danger, intrigue, love, and lots of action. All the characters are complex with varied backgrounds and histories. We don't learn about them all in this first book/audiobook, but we learn enough to know they have all been wronged by the Regime and all have pain and sorrow in their past. Even without the romance and growing connection between Hunter and Skye, I would have loved this book for the story. I can't wait for future volumes. I'm eager to learn more about the stories of the other characters and what made them join house Shadow Wing.

Although there are more books to come (and I can't imagine not wanting to read/listen to them!), this book works completely fine if you want to stop after just one. You won't get the whole story, but there is a satisfactory end to the current challenge.

The narration is wonderful and really adds to the story. Ms. Druyor does emotion like no one else;O

    "What an interesting world..."

The world created for this story is detailed and it shows great potential for being the basis of more thrilling books.

Speaking of thrilling, this story definitely meets the definition. It starts with a bang and the action continues to the very end.

The Vithi (not sure of the spelling) are an interesting species, a good balance of similarities and differences to human, they're relate-able and yet clearly different.

Sky makes for an interesting lead character, she's both out of her depth/overwhelmed and yet she's not willing to just sit on the sidelines as others take risks, she's determined to do everything that she can.

I found the narration interesting, the character voices are very well done. Unusually I found myself thinking that this narration conveyed too much emotion and was overly dramatic, I didn't realize I could feel that way. I liked that there is nothing dull about the delivery and yet at times I found it so dramatic that it was distracting. I mostly loved it, it was just every now and then...

I received this book free from the narrator/publisher/author in exchange for an honest review.

    "Risking it all"

A fun, exciting listen! This almost reminds me of Guardian's of the Galaxy in the sense that a band of the most unlikely of heroes that are more like outlaws with all of their character flaws and yes some illegal activity, all work together and save the humans! I loved all their snarky barbs they threw at each other, their personalities and trying to piece together more about them.

Although this is sci-fi, it didn't feel like it. This story was more about the intensity of their dangerous mission, meeting and getting to know some of this unlikely band of heroes. Although our H/H seem like complete opposites, they come together and when they do it is HOT, but by no means is that the focus of this book.

We are left with a teaser of what is going to come and I can't wait until book 2 is out!

    Worth a credit: YES
