Publisher's Summary

As a paramedic, Alaina Stafford knew that every shift would have its surprises. But being abducted by alien slave traders? There's no preparation for that kind of surprise.

Before she can wrap her head around it, Alaina is sold at a high-dollar auction to be the new "donara" for a powerful, wealthy Errai family. It doesn't take long to find out what a "donara" is...it's the reward for the gladiator who wins in the arena.

Alaina is to be the victor's prize.

Vega is the house favorite among the slave warriors, and crowds come from across the galaxy to watch him in the arena. Unlike the other fighters, he's not swayed by the promise of winning this strange human woman. His real prize - his freedom - is within his grasp, and he won't be distracted from the chance to return home by some fragile but exotic beauty from a planet called Earth.

But there's a vicious political power play at hand, and both Vega and Alaina stand to lose everything. Thrown together and forced to rely on each other, they soon realize that love may actually be worth dying for.

SUCH A HAPPY SURPRISE

Any additional comments?

After Ruby Dixon's Alien Barbarians got me hooked on Alien Romance ebooks, I've been trying out audiobooks in the genre attempting to find a series/author that I like. Most of them fall short in the story department BUT THIS ONE!! Scarlett is a new author to me, and now I need to hit up her backlist because WOW!!! WOW! The premise was DIFFERENT - really, really good, these two falling in love but... they are slaves, stuck in a power struggle between "masters" and have very little in their own control. Gladiators fighting for their freedom, their nations - seriously, major props for layering an INTERESTING story to go along with the romance!!

This book could have gone REALLY dark, and since I am a dark romance fan, I would have been happy for it to go that way, but it didn't venture far into that territory, though the subject matter was much more serious than I was expecting it to be AND I WAS INCREDIBLY PLEASED FOR THAT! Again, GREAT concept, the author wrote this story beautifully, the narration was good, I've enjoyed Addison Spear's work before and will again. I AM SO HAPPY TO FIND A NEW AUTHOR YAAAAAY! This audio was an Audiobook Boom listing, and I requested it hoping for an enjoyable couple of hours; I got MORE than I hoped for, I LOVED it!

FINALLY, A CONFLICT OTHER THAN BETWEEN THE LOVERS

Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook through Audiobook Boom at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.

Expecting little, I received more! This was actually quite enjoyable. I was particularly pleased to find the lead (female) character's antagonist was also female. A pleasing change from the genre's normal "Me Tarzan, You Jane" conflicts. Good HEA ending with a (maybe) too lengthy epilogue.

No complaints about Addison Spear's narrative. It was non-distracting with good cadence

ONE PROUD THUMB'S UP!

A Fight for freedom of body ,mind, heart and soul.

Would you listen to Alien Conquest again? Why?

Absolutely! I would listen to this again because Scarlett Rhone created a fantastical story in an imaginative world with a down right delightful twist to the tale as it was not predictable as other books in this genre tend to be.I will certainly be looking at her other work.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved that Alaina ,although abducted by wakko alien slave traders and auctioned off to a wealthy family. Stays strong ! falls in love and fights tooth and nail ( quite litarally ) for that love ,freedom and self worth. An impressive heroine in any book but a fab change to the wilting woe is me ,fate excepting female leads that tend to be in these sorts of books..Don,t get me wrong I don't think I'd be cool and composed if sold as a sex slave but Alaina 100% is.Which is what you want from a heroine and female in this genre. The narration from Addison Spear is spot on and I very much enjoyed her performance throughout. She is instrumental in evoking the wide and powerful emotions throughout The emotion involved and the highs and lows in this book are extremely real, it makes you feel the right things at the right times, and keeps you there, waiting and hoping things turn out okay.
To sum it up this is a story from a writer who is finely honing her craft and who is capable of engendering tension and excitement in her readers in a subtle and intelligent fashion. Using very contemporary themes that are made harrowing through emotion and commentary rather than gory description.

Good story

I enjoyed this audiobook very much. I think it had a good plot and characters that were likable. The only thing I'd change would be to have 2 narrators, as the woman's voice didn't do justice to the male characters.

Ending with a twist.

This has a good beginning, unfortunately I then lost interest. It took me several tries to finish it, I finally finished it in 4 days. Then all the sudden it got my attention again. I won't spoil it for you but it does end with a twist.

Space Gladiator Romance?

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. What I enjoyed most about this book was the narration - Addison Spear was spot-on and perfect for this role. The story itself was an interesting sci-fi romance; leaning more towards romance than sci-fi. You could pretty easily insert gladiators on earth, take out space ships and have about the same story.

Great Book But Fizzled at the end

Any additional comments?

I have to admit, I am like most Audioiltes I scan the reviews before I buy. The reviews on this book had me intrigued. So I plunked down my credit and had a listen. I have to admit, it was overall a good listen and the reader was great. However, after the big triumph, the book fell flat. It was just a quick wrap up summary that just left me feeling a bit disappointed.

Good story

Any additional comments?

Alien Gladiators in space with a Spartacus feel.

Enjoyable story with an entertaining plot, good characters, some steamy romance, a HEA and a great epilogue. It's was a bit different than most of the Alien/Human stories I have read. The setup for the story was different and a nice surprise, with a few unexpected twists, but the story itself was predictable for the most part. The story was really good, but with a little more action and suspense it would have been great.

Not only are humans kidnapped but other Alien races serve this ruling house. They have to fight for their freedom. Alaina is kidnapped from Earth by another human and delivered to an Alien race for slavery. Even finding herself in this unimaginable situation Alaina doesn't "accept" her fate. She is determined to find a way out the situation. When she meets Vega a warrior captive the attraction is instant. Vega is determined to win his freedom in the arena. When Alaina acts without thinking in order to help Vega things change for both of them. Together and with a little help from an unexpected source they may just survive and win their freedom from their masters.

Addison Spear did a really good job with the narration. Pleasant voice. Easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Good character voices. She was able to make the story and characters come to life. Very enjoyable.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher.
Wooden

What disappointed you about Alien Conquest?

The narrator was so wooden that it ruined what already was a poor story. The main characters were annoying & without personality.

Would you ever listen to anything by Scarlett Rhone again?

Nope ...this book has really put me off.

What didn’t you like about Addison Spear’s performance?

She had only monotone mode as she 'read' this story. I say read because that is exactly what it felt like. She did well with the names but it was wooden & annoying.

Any additional comments?

If you read my reviews you will see that I am generally not hard to please. For me to rate something so badly is unusual. This story itself was pretty interesting but it was ruined by weak writting. The heroine was 'undecided' & went from wet to fierce & back again. I was getting whiplash from her sudden mood swings. The sex was anything but hot. Had a different narrator read this you probably could have saved it but the combination of poor writting & wooden narratives have left this in the awful I will return it pile.
