Publisher's summary

On May 8, 1373, 30-year-old Julian of Norwich, sick and near death, had a series of visions of Christ. In these 16 visions she learnt about God's loving nature. God in Julian's visions was not angry and wrathful. Instead, the three properties of God were presented as life, love and light, and all of His creation was good, including his servant, man. In Julian's version, Man is not to blame for his sin; instead it is something that he must experience and overcome in his spiritual journey with God.

The version of Christian theology presented in Revelations of Divine Love - the first published book in English attributed to a woman - was highly liberal and incredibly progressive for its time. The book contains some of the most profound spiritual writing ever written and remains a perennial favorite among Christians.

Love it

Uplifting and fascinating. Julian of Norwich might be my favorite Christian Mystic. I also think being an anchorite is a fascinating existence.

A game changer!

I found the revelations given to Julian of Norwich the closest to revealing what my heart desires above all
to understand. That is, who God is, his very essence, and what the Scripture means in 1 John 4:7-21 when John says “God Is Love”. Understanding this better is a game changer for me in how I relate to him and to others. I am grateful to God for this book!

LOVE

This is an amazing book. I love this new translation and the narrator is PERFECT. I listened to it and immediately started it over and listened again. As an aspiring mystic I have been reading everything I can find on the subject. While this is not a "how to" like some others (e.g. St. Teresa), it is so inspiring and I could feel the love of God as I listened. Just a wonderful experience.

The mystical love of God

Well done. It is difficult to read the old language, but here, it is easily listened too.

Julian's Theology is Catholic

I first heard of this book through Sarah Clarkson's writing. I love the quote,
"All shall be well
and all shall be well,
and all manner of things shall be well"
- so much so I made an embroidery of it, ha! Listening to this book though I feel like it was a running stream of repetitive thought that was just very Catholic. Coming from a different faith background, I felt like there was so much emphasis placed on Christ's crucifixion, holy church and Mary. Very little to no emphasis placed on how we are redeemed to live a righteous life, one of faith and trust. And how Christ is risen and stated at His father's right hand. Excellent narrator. Just felt it was very hard to stay focused. And my goodness this woman loved to count, every other sentence is about a number... "then I was shown three things... this came to me in five ways... then seven truths were given to me." Anyways, book just wasn't for me. I think Amy Carmichael's writing has a lot more meat.

Extraordinary narration, questionable translation

I could scarcely imagine a more captivating, charming narrator than Katie Scarfe for this incredible book. I adore Julian and her message of love. However, I was not aware that this was the Mirabai Starr translation, which is no deeper than the plot of a feel-good movie. The translation, if you can call it that, glosses over difficult linguistic and conceptual realities in favor of an upbeat modernization. The result is a shallow, overly simplistic rendering. Had I know this, I wouldn't have purchased it. So five stars for extraordinary narration, five stars for Julian's original message, and one star for translation.
