Story
George Whitefield was a man of God who helped to usher in massive revival throughout young America. A fiery preacher who would weep for his hearers while preaching to them, was one who sought after truth and proclaimed the way of life till the end of his life. Though some may disagree with his stance on Calvinism, none can deny his passion for his Lord Jesus Christ. May this book provoke you unto deeper righteousness as deep calls unto deep.

Story
Leonard Ravenhill's call to revival is as timely now as it was when it was published over 50 years ago. The message is fearless and often radical as he expounds on the disparity between the New Testament church and the church today. Why Revival Tarries contains the heart of his message. AW Tozer called Ravenhill "a man sent from God" who "appeared at [a] critical moment in history", just as the Old Testament prophets did. Included are questions for group and individual study.

Story
The Bible gives the only reliable account of the origin of religion. It informs us of the existence of God, the only object worthy of religious worship. Moreover, it comes to us with the assurance that God, whom man could never discover with his natural powers, revealed Himself in nature and, more especially, in His divine Word, demands the worship and service of man, and also determines the worship and service that is well-pleasing to Him.

How do Christians grow? Few question the call of the Bible to grow in godliness, but the answer to exactly how this happens is often elusive. In this audiobook, Dane Ortlund points believers to Christ, making the case that sanctification does not happen by doing more or becoming better, but by going deeper into the wondrous gospel truths that washed over them when they were first united to him.

Ignatius was a man discipled by the Apostle John, who was deeply rich in humility and wisdom. His letters live on, long after his death, and today we have the opportunity of hearing them! Friends, let us study the holy Scriptures, for this is the very thing greater than all earthly bread, but let us also not neglect the study of the very men that walked and lived in the days of the Apostles, for their wisdom and words are valuable to our development unto holiness and godly virtue.

When My only-begotten Son returned to Me, forty days after the resurrection, this Bridge, namely Himself, arose from the earth, that is, from among the conversation of men, and ascended into Heaven by virtue of the Divine Nature and sat at the right hand of Me, the Eternal Father, as the angels said, on the day of the Ascension, to the disciples, standing like dead men, their hearts lifted on high, and ascended into Heaven with the wisdom of My Son - 'Do not stand here any longer, for He is seated at the right hand of the Father!'

Story
Irenaeus was an early Christian writer who gives us great insight into primitive Christian theology and doctrine. His words are wise and filled with the grace of God. Truly an important father of the faith, many Christians today are ignorant of his works and of other early Christians like him. This piece of literature is actually a collection of fragments from his writings that have been found. The hungry soul should be truly blessed while listening to this marvelous book by such a great man of God!

Publisher's Summary
It has been said that this work by Henry Scougal was "almost universally praised by the leaders of the Great Awakening". It is a piece of literature that has been used by God to influence the souls of men for the glory of Christ.
Regardless of the times we live in, the great works of the men of God of old are still applicable today. In an age of lukewarm believers, we need the fire of God to burn us afresh and give us a clear vision of his holy will.
Be blessed as you listen to this amazing book!

Knowing God & Drawing Closer to Him
...is an intent of the writer of this book. Mr Scougal works toward this goal by: establishing the plausibility of God's interest in the human soul, detailing the fruits and value renders to the human soul, and advises paths to draw nearer to God.
I have listened to this book twice and expect to again.
It's a small book, though densely packed. The reader balances expression and exactness well. I think his approach helps with the intent of the author as the content, not the reader, has the prominent place.
Highly recommended to people who are trying to love God.

A difficult listen.
The book itself is very hard to read due to the language, but well worth it.
Unfortunately the narrator here doesn't do it justice and is such a bore to listen to and adds no emotion or warmth whatsoever to help the listener understand this work better.

Very Helpful
I'm researching the prayer life of John Wesley because I read that Wesley was a mystic which I found hard to believe and it was mentioned that this book was foundational for his beliefs. It was very helpful and gave context to Wesley's ministry and the mystical precepts that really did show up in this book and not surprisingly Wesley's sermons and Journal. I also found it personally enlightening and I'm thank my path led me to it. -scott
