Publisher's summary

A stunning debut in the blockbuster tradition of Jurassic Park - enhanced with dramatic sound effects.

A pair of fierce but beautiful eyes look out from the undergrowth of conifers. The eyes follow every movement in the great herd of plant-eating dinosaurs that mills around the open meadows, moving back and forth with the rapid scanning of a hunter who is thinking about everything she sees. She is an intelligent killer.

The time - 120 million years ago. The place - the plains of prehistoric Utah. The eyes belong to one of the most unforgettable heroines you will ever meet. Her name - Raptor Red.

Raptor Red is a female raptor dinosaur, struggling to survive on her own after losing her mate. Painting a rich and colorful picture of a lush prehistoric world, leading paleontologist Robert T. Bakker tells the story from within Raptor Red's extraordinary mind, dramatizing his groundbreaking theories in an exciting, one-of-a-kind tale. With keen insight and stunning authenticity, he tracks the raptor on her yearlong odyssey of survival as she braves a devastating storm, migrates toward the ocean to escape powerful predators, and heads north in a desperate attempt to escape the threat of deadly acrocanthosaurs, all while carrying out her natural duty to search for a new mate.

From its tragic opening to its thrilling climax on a snowy mountaintop, Raptor Red is a unique and utterly compelling look at a year in the life of a dinosaur - a revolutionary work of fiction.

Clever Girl

I listen to this once a year. I adore it. The reading is well done and the sounds and music only add to it. The story is so fantastic as well. It's unlike anything I've read before.

A great perspective.

A wonderful look through the eyes of a Utahraptor. Action packed and emotional. The only quirk that slightly bugged me was how "human like" the raptors emotions were portrayed. The book does a decent job at trying to explain the more animalistic thought processes, but some of the more complex emotional dialogue was a bit deeper than I would expect from this creature. I would definitely recommend this book for any dinosaur lover.

excellent

The narrator for this book was very enjoyable to listen to, she did an awesome job. The book itself was very well written on the life of a raptor. This was an excellent book.

Pretty dang intriguing.

At first I must admit the intro started to seem a bit childish, but as soon as it started I was pretty darn intrigued the entire time!

I love this book!

this book has been one of my favorite books since it came out. though the printed version has a lot more events that happened in the year of raptor reds life that's covered in the book, I still enjoy the audio version with all the sound effects and neuances. Every time I re-read this story or hear it I always wish someone would make this into a movie, but something that is true to the book and accurate to how these beasts looked, not the Jurassic park naked raptor crap.

Epic

The story is fantastic, however some of the instrumental sections are incredibly loud and drown out the narration at some points

Definite listen.

I really like the story and the readers performance. Please please please turn down the background music!!!!! It was quite difficult to hear her reading at times. The reader did a great job of building drama on her own without the drowning orchestra! I still recommend it however because I enjoyed the story and Megan Gallagher a lot.

Beautiful

I noticed the audiobook didn't have some details that the first edition Raptor Red did. That being said it is super hard to find a physical Raptor Red Book, I'm really missing the original copy I had. I wish they didn't abridge it, there's so many wonderful details and honestly not one detail in the book is superfluous. All points and observations made eventually become pertinent to the Raptors story. This is a beautiful story of a Utah Raptor based upon the remains found and what could have been when she was living. This story is brilliant, well written, the style is extremely had to pull off and he does it effortless. I wish I knew more books like this, because it is one of my favorite books of all time. My original hard copy was so worn from reading the pages curled gently, the spine was creased from opening it so many times and the pages were soft with so much use. That's from a person who loves books, and keeps them in a controlled climate book case.
