My books cover several genres, including science fiction, fantasy, horror, young adult, historical novels and non-fiction. I am happiest writing short stories in the science fiction and fantasy genres, but so far have published 70 plus novels and one or two volumes of poetry. I wrote the novelisation of the movie 'Highlander' and have been fortunate enough to have stories on BBC Radio and Television. My career spans 40 years of full time writing. Previous to that I was in telecommunications, both in the RAF and with Cable and Wireless. I've been shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal twice and have won the Children's Book of the Year Award, as well as one or two awards for fantasy and science fiction. My novels and short stories have been translated into 22 different languages, including Japanese, Hebrew and Russian.
