Better than most

Dino-Horror is a notoriously terrible sub-genre. Most books I find that fall into this category are horrendously written, unrealistic, and/or just flat out boring. Primitive War is a bit of an exception, as in it’s better than most but not the greatest in and of itself. To the authors credit the writing in some parts is very well done and does well to convey the horror of predation and wartime. Other parts are a bit confused and tended to ramble on. One such part for me was the characters. Half the book is a constant rehashing personal trauma over and over which takes most of the weight out of it leaving little payoff. The action gets a bit goofy and confusing to follow sometimes as well. The dino’s were also heavily equipped with their plot armor making them nearly invulnerable. They’re animals, not mechanized war machines... But overall it was fun for what it was and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys dino-horror.

absolutely vicious writing.

this book is a masterpiece. there is nothing out there like it. the closest you can come is Jurassic Park. I don't know how to describe just how good this book is. the narrator takes a little bit of getting used to by an hour into the book you won't even notice. I don't think I would want anyone else to narrate it maybe RC brey. I have read all of Ethan pettus's sequels and accompanying books and absolutely cannot wait for them to become audio books really I have hundreds of books in my audible library and this is the best. keep them coming and if you don't know if this book's for you roll the dice you will not be disappointed.

Too dark

This story is too dark. Much talk about the darkness inside of humans. Not enough about dinosaurs. I kept forwarding it to avoid all the depression and darkness. Not worth a read if you’re just trying to find something for entertainment.

Immortal dinosaurs

The concept of the story was great but the actual combat was incredibly one-sided and unrealistic. To say that elite soldiers of the spetznas and green berets cant hit 10 foot tall dinosaurs is ridiculous and turns all confrontations very predictable and boring.

Perfect Dinosaur Horror

I have to admit, this was a very satisfying story to listen to. Just visualizing how powerless humanity is against the dinosaurs is quite chilling. I can’t help but wonder if there is a sequel, because I definitely want to hear more.

Special ops acted like special needs

They were consistently. Overwhelmed, panicked, shocked, frozen. Not the behavior of special ops guys. Guns didn’t work on dinos. Silly. Grenades did someone forget to take the grenades? Still never understood where the di is came from. And so many so fast. Hmmmm. From a collider? Silly. And gory.

Great Story, Characters, Horror and Performance!

I loved this story! Author was inspired by Jurassic Park but does an excellent job on writing a unique story with characters that you come to love by the end of the tale, even some of the villains you may find yourself wishing they made it out!

This performance is mastery level with the narrator doing a fine job with accents and really makes all the characters sound different.

Dinosaur horror novels always fall short and are notoriously terrible, that being said this one is a breath of fresh air and I enjoyed every minute of it.

It brings an excellent balance of action, horror and story. Primitive War is a fitting name for it as well.

Strange narration and weird mistakes, but fun overall

I liked this book, let me say that off the bat. But I definitely had some problems with it. First off, the narration is so strange. He does normal voices sometimes and his accents aren’t bad, but he gets into these super deep, almost guttural instances with really strange cadence that threw me off. It was like some weird art house dramatic reading.

Next off, I think it’s way gorier than it needs to be, I of course expected it, but even so I thought it was over the top and too mean spirited sometimes.

Lastly, the strange timeline mistakes really irritated me for some reason. He justifies why there are dinosaurs from different locals and times, so that part is fine, my problem was if this was supposed to be during the Vietnam War, why didn’t anyone question feathered dinosaurs? I appreciate him trying to make scientifically accurate dinosaurs scary, but feathers weren’t even a thought in the 70’s, he literally just needed one line of someone saying dinosaurs are lizards why do they have feathers and I would have accepted it. And speaking of, he has species being called out by name that weren’t discovered back then. Utahraptor wasn’t named until the 90’s so why do the characters name drop it? I wouldn’t care if the narration referred to it by its name, but it completely took me out of it to have some Russian scientist in the 70’s know exactly what a Utahraptor or Stygymoloch was. Probably a knit pick for some but honestly it super bothered me and definitely took me out of it every time someone did it.

WONDERFUL BOOK

This book is amazing. I'm not even half way through, and I'm rating it 5 stars. Extremely well written, and just as much talent in the narration. So happy I bought this book. Absolutely amazing.

Amazing!

After reading the synopsis of this book, I knew it had to be good and it didn’t disappoint!

It’s the perfect blend of platoon, predator and Jurassic Park. It’s action and horror elements are very well done and the level of detail put in is truly amazing and I can’t wait for more Primitive War!
