Cozy, cute, will leave you craving candy

I love listening to cozy mysteries and am always looking for new ones. I tried the second in this series and immediately got the next. The setting is interesting and the mystery is better than some (not obvious) and the narration is good. I took away one star for the writing because all the characters and the first-person narrator have a slightly stilted voice. Normal people use contactions. If it were just Amish characters (where English is a second language) that would be one thing, but the Englischer do it too, and in an audio book that gets grating.

“Shivers” way too much!

This author uses “shivers” way too much in each and every book on this series. Can you not use “made my blood run cold” or “made my spine tingle” or anything else that is different?

ANOTHER GREAT READ

LOVE THIS SERIES AND THE DEVELOPING CHARACTERS AND RELATIONSHIPS. BAILEY AND AIDAN AND ALL THE OTHERS. I HATED TO FINISH THIS BOOK ONLY BECAUSE I NOW MUST WAIT MONTHS FOR THE NEXT.

Great series

As usual, so fun to visit Holmes County, Ohio! This is one of my favorite mystery series, for a few reasons. Bailey is always growing and evolving and so does the story and what she wants to achieve. I like that it isn’t just someone going to work and finding a body constantly. Plus the town is always so heartwarming and I feel at home every time.

Sweet Story

The Amish Candy Shop Mystery Series is light and entertaining. The characters are engaging and interesting. The mystery is well developed and has an easy going pace. The only thing I don't like is that Bailey is a doormat. She let's herself get talked into things she doesn't want to do. She spends too much time making everyone else happy. I had to skip ahead on some parts because it was just too annoying. I like this series and will continue to read/listen to the books. I only wish Bailey had more of a spine.

I’m enjoying this series

I am very picky about ready, and listening, to books. I enjoy a wide array of genres, for relaxation and simple fun the genre if choice is a cozy mystery.

With the need to meet a veracious reading appetite like mine I find it more difficult each month to find books with quality. Well used grammar, spelling, multiple plot lines and good overall writing are the basics of what I enjoy.

I am happy to report the “Amish Candy Shop Mystery Series” mire than meets my basic requirements. The author, and narrator, both do well with their attempt to mix the American “Englisher” and the American “Amish Danish” culture and language differences.

If one is looking for an entertaining series of cozy mysteries to read, Amanda Fowler’s Amish Candy Shop Mysteries, is a good choice.

Interesting and Fun

I love this series! It is fun and keeps you guessing. This particular story dragged in a few places, for the first time I found myself - come on - dragging it out some here but overall it was good. Loved the addition to the live Nativity - was a cute addition!

Loved the storyline and characters

I enjoyed this book and look forward to more exciting stories. The narrator is amazing she makes all the characters so real and the story flows at a nice pace.

A Delightful Christmas Amish Mystery

In <strong>Premeditated Peppermint</strong> by Amanda Flower, Bailey King has gotten settled in at Swissman Sweets with her Amish grandmother in Harvest, Ohio. Then one day she gets alarmed when Eric Sharp, her ex-boyfriend whose relationship with Bailey caused a major scandal in the food world earlier, walks in to the family candy shop. Eric now has his own cooking television show and has decided that the perfect Christmas special would be to feature an Amish village and show him rekindling his relationship with Bailey.

Refusing to participate in such a plot, Bailey finally agrees to meet the next morning with the executive producer, Rocky Rivers, to discuss appearing in the show without any romantic themes. But when Bailey shows up to see Rocky, she finds Eric bending over the body of Rocky with a string of lights wound tightly around her neck. Believing that Eric is too focused on his career to have murdered his producer, Bailey decides to help him as she participates in the Harvest Christmas Market, for which Swissman Sweets has been busily making all sorts of peppermint candies. Happily for Bailey, she gets surprised by the arrival of her best friend, Cass, who has arrived to help her cope with Eric but who now eagerly jumps into the investigation.

<strong>Premeditated Peppermint</strong> is a delightful book with a great mystery and a lot of fun characters. The mystery plot kept me changing my guess as to the identity of the murderer. The creativity of the plot kept me fascinated throughout the whole book.

The characters in this book and details of the local community get shown vividly and are the particular draw of this book. Bailey has many adventures that show her human side. The potential love triangle among Bailey, Eric, and Deputy Aiden Brody has interest, and we find ourselves rooting for Aiden to succeed. Cass is a fun, vivacious character, as are even Jethro, the pet pig, and Melchior, a camel in the nativity scene. Further, we get a good feel for the Amish community, both the good and the bad.

Rebecca Mitchell narrates the audio edition of <strong>Premeditated Peppermint</strong> and gives an effective performance. With good accents for the Amish, the New Yorkers, and Bailey, the audiobook makes each seem real. As the first person narrator of Bailey, Mitchell makes the book an extra delight to listen to.

I highly enjoyed listening to <strong>Premeditated Peppermint</strong>. I have never been disappointed by anything by Amanda Flower, and this book is no exception. I appreciated it greatly and give the book five stars.
