Publisher's Summary

Imagine what life would be like if panic ruled your world at the mere thought of going to bed at night. For as long as he can remember, Finnley Hollins has been crippled by his extreme phobia of sleep. Every night is a battle, and every morning isn’t without consequences. The root cause is something he’s ashamed to admit to anyone. It’s his war, and he will fight it alone.

When an unexpected turn of events lands the stunningly gorgeous Aven Woods at Finnley’s place of business, his life gets turned upside down.

All it would take is one night together for his secret to be exposed. Finnley wasn’t prepared to fall in love. More so, he wasn’t prepared for his phobia to completely consume his life. Not only is it affecting his job and his relationship, but now it’s affecting his health. What will it take for Finnley to finally admit he needs help?

The narrator is really a GOLD!!!

*big sigh* ... OMG! This book was so much better then I thought it would be. I - the lunatic - feared to listen to it, because last year when I read this book, I was exhousted from it. I became Finn while reading, and I thought I'll be sleeping through the book while listening to it. But d**n, I was so wrong! It was SO good i couldn't sleep even if I wanted to. I just wanted to listen to it forever. Adam Gold is really a GOLD in narrating. The things he does with his voice and how he plays the characters... i have no words. No. Words! Perfection.

Finnley and Aven were so awesome together, I fell in love again and again with them. They came alive and everything was perfectly amazing in this audiobook. I loved every scene, but when Ireland was there for the first time I was smiling so hard I think everyone thought I'm crazy - side effect of listening to audiobooks in public.

I highly recommend this book in every format. Plus I highly recommend Nicky James. And Adam Gold. Good God, I recommend Adam Gold!

How good this book was?! Still no words - i'm speechless.

So Amazing

Wow!! Just wow! I loved this book, so when the audio came out, I thought I would give this new-to-me narrator a try. I am SO glad I did! The way that Adam Gold narrated this beautiful story was just amazing. I’ve never felt more immersed in an audiobook - ever. Adam’s narration went above and beyond just character voices and I felt as if I was IN the story. I couldn’t imagine the fear of sleeping, but this narration made me understand that fear that Finnley battles nightly. The way Adam conveyed the sadness and desperation of Finnley when he had hit his exhaustion point just pulled at my heart. I *felt* those feelings from Finnley. I equally loved his portrayal of Aven, whose unwavering support of Finnley certainly choked me up at points. This story was so riveting and kept me finding excuses to pop in my earbuds to finish, even knowing the outcome. This story truly brought out a whole range of emotions in me, and I loved every moment of it. Nicky James certainly knows how to break your heart, and slowly mend it back together like no other. If you’re looking for an audio where you’ll lose yourself in the story, I couldn’t recommend this more!

Adam Gold was perfection

Omg this audio was everything! Adam Gold made me fall in love with Finn this time around. I loved this book, but the first time around I didn’t live Finn. I do now. And his voice for Aven gutted me. Just perfect!

I NEED MORE NICKY JAMES W/ ADAM GOLD AUDIOBOOKS

Nicky James is a goddess among authors! Her romances are angsty but hopeful. Adam Gold is a god among narrators. His performance intensifies all those angsty and hopeful feelings of the story. They are the perfect team!!!

Narrator is "Gold!"

So, the best thing about this book was the narrator. I'd really like to hear him on other books as well. Some of the narrators in this genre are less than matching in my mind with some of the stories. Even if the story itself is really good, the narrator is the one who brings the story to life, or kills it. The story was OK, but felt like it dragged on a bit.

The narrator bring this story to life, makes it that much more real, and paired with the writing I was completely engulfed by the story.

I fell in love with this couple so completely and im not sure what more I could have asked for. There were a couple moments where I could feel our sleepy owl's complete terror, feel it in my bones. Absolutely amazing.

Stunning story brought to life by Adam Gold

I have read all the books in this series and I just love how these phobias are handled as a huge part of the storyline. Aven and Finn are brought together by the death of Aven's stepfather. Finn is the owner of the funeral home handling funeral preparations for Aven's stepfather. As these two start developing a relationship, Finn's fear of sleep becomes apparent to Aven. This story brings all the feels as these two navigate not only their budding relationship, but dealing with and getting help for Finn.
I had never listened to a book performed by Adam Gold, but he hit this out of the park. I used to only have three go to narrators, but Adam has made my list. 😊 He does a fantastic job with the variety of character voices found in this book. I love the consistency of voices and the flow of the performance., even during the sexytimes of the story. I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the books brought to life.

Still an Emotional the second time around!

Alan Gold did a fabulous job at bringing this story alive. I loved reading this first book in the Trials Fears Series! Avin and Fin's story was absolutely heartbreaking as well as a indepth learning experience into Fin's phobia with sleeping, how the couple managed and was able to still build a incredible love story.
Having their story read to me was a totally different experience, it was if I was actually able to really visualize it more as it was being read, and noticed parts that I had missed.

All the stars!! Absolutely amazing in every way!

Just… wow. What an incredible story this was. Unique and so intensely touching. It starts out with a very emotional, unsettling scene, drawing us into Finnley’s world and fears from the very first moment. Finnley’s extreme phobia of sleep is almost a third main character, the way it takes over his life to an almost crippling extent. His misery and hopelessness bleeds into the narrative, I marveled at his ability to endure. He so deserved a guy like Aven in his life! I simply loved everything about Aven and I loved the way he loved Finnley even more. Aven is all heart and patient understanding.
Both main characters were wonderfully complex and well-rounded, their story beautifully written and awe-inspiring. The story builds up slowly as we gradually learn more about Finn’s past and the roots of his phobia, and though Aven is Finn’s rock, his love is not a quick fix which I really appreciated and which lent even more depth and authenticity to Finn’s struggle to voice and overcome his fears.

Narration: the narration was sublime! Adam Gold was a new to me narrator, but he completely blew me away. I so enjoyed the emotion he brought to the story. He really seemed to get the MC’s and did an amazing job performing both Aven’s calm, soothing strength as well as Finnley’s anxiety and sometimes crippling fear. I also loved the “special effects” he used for some of the characters’ inner dialogue. He took great care with the voices of the secondary characters too, I especially loved the voice & slight accent he did for Margaret.
