Publisher's summary

Imposter syndrome—the irrational self-doubt we feel despite obvious success—can strike at any time, at work or at home. Such crippling anxiety and worry, common to so many people, can even undermine your ability to lead a confident and authentic life. But when you understand the psychological roots of imposter syndrome, you can equip yourself with the right strategies and mindset to avoid the rabbit hole of fraudulent thinking.

In Overcoming Imposter Syndrome, licensed clinical psychologist Kelly Vincent teaches you how to navigate these complicated feelings and how to guide yourself toward lasting change. Through six compassionate and insightful lessons, Kelly unpacks the various types of imposter syndrome (yes, there’s more than one), then reveals proven strategies for rewiring your brain so you can challenge unhelpful thoughts and approach every task with confidence. Along the way, you’ll explore and practice both long-term strategies, such as regulating your nervous system, and short-term strategies, such as in-the-moment coping methods.

Is that ugly imposter voice in your head getting too loud? Now, with this Audible Original, you can tell it to keep quiet.

Better than what I've read before

This really did enlighten me and give me some tools to get out of this rut I've been in. Knowing why, how, and roots of this negative thought cycle is a great tool. Sure, I started therapy and got tools to organize, etc. Now, those tools are helpful because I can use them correctly. This has also given me questions to help my therapy be more effective.

Be prepared

Requires more than 1 listening, most likely. I learned my types, not too much of the why. You should have a notebook ready.

supportive and helpful

this is a self-respect book that helps you to know more about you and change things that you don't like or want to change. I could listen to this book more often to help me get through some of the things I used to think we're flaws about me.

I liked the exercises. I found them useful

I never knew that there were 5 types of imposter syndrome. Very insightful. I found the exercises very helpful.

Decent content, poor narration

Narrator misspeaks quite a bit, for example underlining instead of underlying, exasperates instead of exacerbates… credibility suffers when these productions aren’t edited. I had to give up listening as the mistakes were so annoying.

Short & Enjoyable

I was really looking for something bite sized and easy to move through, and this was it. Imposter syndrome can feel icky to face, and I thought this was the perfect length, with some great exercises and reflections to start wading in. I recommend it to anyone seeking an introduction to this topic as they peel back the layers. I also like "The Big Leap" by Gay Hendricks and I'd recommend the both of them as great tools for moving out resistance. This one to wade into the topic, the other one to go deeper.

I'll keep looking for more books about this. :-)

College Students!!!!

As a senior in college and I feel quite nervous and uncomfortable with graduating and stepping into the workforce. Feeling as if i don’t deserve an opportunity to join the workforce. Or that I might not excel in the workforce. Even though i committed 4.5 years to school to obtain a degree that shows my skills.

If you are college student or someone who is transitioning into a new career field. I would give this a listen and make sure you have a notebook. You may not find yourself connecting with different ways of how imposter syndrome affects you at the moment. However, it can shine light on how it can affect you in the future. So, take notes and when then the time comes and you start feeling like an imposter you’ll have something to look back at.

It help me a lot!

It was more of a course than a simple audiobook. She is very didactic with the exercises which I think can help us to not only understand the syndrome but also how to handle it.
A personal note to the writer; I am pretty sure that all your processes with the syndrome will help so many people! Thank you for taking the time on putting together this work for us :)

Great!

Very insightful and informative with constructive, practical and helpful strategies for improvement. The delivery was relaxed and engagaging. I love that it's not just information that tells you what imposter syndrome is. It helps the listener to identify it in themselves and offers multiple options and practical guide in overcoming the challenges.

Just what I needed

I will be listening to this regularly. The exercise’s it had you do throughout really helped me to recognize my misguided thinking and helped me open up to the idea of trying to change and reframe my brain. I didn’t realize this was a problem of mine that I have struggled with since childhood. And while the feeling of self loathing will take time to overcome this book is a great starting point in the healing process.
