Publisher's Summary

In Out of Sorts, Sarah Bessey, award-winning blogger and author of Jesus Feminist, helps us grapple with core Christian issues using a mixture of beautiful storytelling and biblical teaching. As she candidly shares her wrestlings with core issues - such as who Jesus is, what place the church has in our lives, how to disagree yet remain within a community, and how to love the Bible for what it is rather than what we want it to be - she teaches us how to walk courageously through our own tough questions. In the process of gently helping us sort things out, Bessey teaches us how to be as comfortable with uncertainty as we are with solid answers. And as we learn to hold questions in one hand and answers in the other, we discover new depths of faith that will remain secure even through the storms of life.

Sounded like a robot reading this!

Would you try another book from Sarah Bessey and/or Joell A. Jacob?

I am beyond disappointed in this experiencing. I could barely get past the foreword because of the automated sound of the reader. She sounds like those cartoons with the female robot voice. Or it's like being read to by Siri. I was SOOO looking forward to this book, but I will have to buy the book and read it myself, because listening to this was unbearable. I hate writing such a negative review, but seriously y'all, this was BEYOND bad.

What other book might you compare Out of Sorts to and why?

I don't know.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Joell A. Jacob?

Anyone. Literally, anyone would have to have been better.

Did Out of Sorts inspire you to do anything?

Write this review and wish I could get my money back...

My heart and mind

My heart resonated with Sarah Bessey’s words. I’ve been sorting my faith for several years...and yet with all the problems I am having with evangelicalism these days, my mantra remains”stay.”
Sarah is an old soul. If you a Boomer that grew up in the Jesus movement of the 60’s and 70’s you will get her!

Clarity

This book gave me clarity on what I have been thinking and wrestling with for many years! I cried tears of relief and deep understanding of the journey God has asked me to go on with Him. I could never quite put my finger on it until I read this book. Itwas great to know that I was not alone.

This is it!

This is the book that has most changed my life and challenged my constants....but at the same time has been a soothing balm, a reassurance on a painful journey. I’m in crumbles but this book let me know that THATS ok.

Interesting viewpoint

The author holds some interest if not debatable views on some points in the book. It made me wish I could sit down and have a conversation face to face with her. Overall a good, interesting story.

I loved this book!

Sarah Bessey could be telling my story. It was so refreshing to hear her perspective of sorting through the evangelical past of her life and not rejecting it all but putting the pieces back together in a way that honors her tradition but also embraces the real message of Jesus. I loved it. It challenges me to not reject all of my evangelical heritage, but to find ways to weave my heritage into the knowledge I have now.

Narrator is God awful

What would have made Out of Sorts better?

This is one of those books that is a MILLION TIMES BETTER as a hard copy than audiobook. I purchased the kindle edition and added the audible narration for cheap price. Holy Moses is the narrator terrible. It sounds like Siri is performing the book. But this book is great and fantastic and has SO MANY amazing ideas and points.

Any additional comments?

Skip the audio and just read the hard copy.
