Publisher's Summary

Rapping on the walls. Mysterious rains of stones. Furniture moving around by itself. Phantom voices. Unexplained fires. Invisible assaults. The symptoms of poltergeist activity are well known, but what is a poltergeist, really? Is it some type of demon, or an angry spirit whose only mission is to cause mischief and destruction? Is it the unconscious energy of a troubled living person, somehow affecting the environment from a distance? Or could it all be simply fraud or misidentification? In this comprehensive book, well over 100 cases of poltergeist activity, from the first century to the present day, are summarized and examined. All the best-known cases are presented, from Borley Rectory to the Bell Witch, from the Great Amherst Mystery to Gef the Talking Mongoose, from Rosenheim to Tina Resch, from Enfield to the Entity. A large selection of fascinating and lesser-known accounts from all over the world are also included, and all contain testimony of the most eerie and extraordinary events. In addition, the book contains in-depth discussions of distinct patterns, stages, and theorized causes of poltergeist phenomena, drawing from some of the best research in parapsychology, neuroscience, and quantum mechanics, as well as a skeptical perspective to provide a grounded overview. The Unseen Hand is the ultimate one-stop-shop for listeners interested in poltergeist disturbances throughout history and the theories behind what causes them.

Great book

This reads more like a reference manual. So much great information. I love the audio, but think this would be better to own a hard copy to make notes etc

Great Book

Overall a great book! I found the author on her podcast and she brings the same mentality to her book. They're two things keeping this from giving the review a five star. First, the third chapter seemed a little pointless to me. It goes over briefly dates and situations when poltergeist activity was reported. I felt this chapter could have been summed up in one sentence. "The earliest case of poltergeist activity was this date". The second reason is the audio recording wasn't great. The room is was recorded in gave a slight echo and it was distracting at times. I would recommend upgrading the audio equipment or sound proofing the room you record in. You could tell this is the same room she does the podcasts in. Keep up the good work Jenny!

Intriguing!

Well written, with lots of information for each case. The book is divided in to sections by what type of manifestation occured. The author's voice makes for a relaxing listen. Honest truth

I really enjoyed Jenny Ashfords podcasts and YouTube channels, so I was excited to listen to her book. I work as driver so audio books are ideal for me. Jenny narrated her own book and she sounded nothing like her podcast. The entire book sounded like one extremely long digital voice recording. I couldn’t even listen for more than five minutes at a time and tried skipping through the book to see if it was all the same, it was. I don’t know if the book was well written, but the audio version is awful. Very disappointed in Jenny’s lack of enthusiasm to record this book. The dry eyes guy could of done better.

Superb :)

What made the experience of listening to The Unseen Hand the most enjoyable?

The performance from Jenny is great. What made it enjoyable for me is that it was varied stories of paranormal activity--all the demonic possession stories i just don't find enthralling at all but obviously expected a few of them.

What did you like best about this story?

I think the outright obvious amount of research, planning and writing shows one thing.
Jenny knows what she is talking about. It feels tremendously convincing. Also note--the fact that Jenny doesn't just say "oh, it's all real" and openly says (and chooses to leave in the ones where deviation has been used)
Have you listened to any of Jenny Ashford’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No, It was the first book of Jenny Ashford's that i've read.
I'm a regular listened to her podcast 13 o' clock though.
I feel the delivery on that is better, but only because it's in a more relaxed setting. I couldn't compare it to another book though.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I actually did,but at 11+ hours i really think it's too long for the majority of people to actually do it!

A great book of historical poltergeist and paranormal stories.

The unseen hand was a fascinating and interesting eye opener of paranormal poltergeist encounters over history and around the world. Jenny Ashford has a informative variety of manifestations and cases. This book has great points of views with good argumentative conclusions. Its a great listen if you appreciate theology and paranormal hypotheses and love to get lost in the historical stories and background of poltergeist activity and the paranormal. I highly recommend this audiobook and I look forward to future work. Thank you for a great read.

The Ultimate Poltergeist Compendium!

What made the experience of listening to The Unseen Hand the most enjoyable?

Just the sheer amount of events compiled together was enough to warrant 5 stars. I liked how it was all laid out and the author didn't thrust her opinion onto the reader/listener.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Unseen Hand?

It was nice to hear about occurrences outside of the US for once as well.

Have you listened to any of Jenny Ashford’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Being a fan of Jenny's podcast "13 O'clock" and not having listened to any of her other books, I did miss Tom's insight into things and their funny banter but over all I enjoyed it thoroughly.
