Want to know more about history and politics? Then you should probably go and listen to a proper audiobook. Fancy a laugh at some smutty jokes? Then go and read Viz. But if you fancy a combination of the two, this is the audiobook for you.
In Off the Record, bitter and twisted leftie news reporter Jonathan Pie picks 10 of the world's worst wankers and tears them apart.
Here you'll find the answers to some difficult questions. Was Blair just a Tory in disguise? Did Cameron really have relations with that pig? Just how did we end up with President Donald Trump?
It's the ultimate guide to political arseholery. With extra swearing.
Would you listen to Jonathan Pie again? Why?
Yes, especially if at some point he tours the US like he has the UK. Looking forward to the next book, whenever it arrives. While I don't always agree with the politics expressed, his delivery and strong stance on free speech are compelling and delivered in a way that makes it even more palatable to those who might disagree.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
The thread that runs through this book is that even when people disagree, trying to censor or prevent opinions from being aired is absolutely unacceptable. If they were, we might not this bit of joy that is this book in our currently-dreary world.
What does Jonathan Pie bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
It's absolutely essential that you listen to the audiobook rather than read it as Jonathan's (Tom Walker) delivery is crucial to getting the full impact of the humor. Just watch him on YouTube for a great taste of that.
Any additional comments?
The book was too short, even with the bonus material at the end of some chapters, but I don't regret the purchase at all as Jonathan Pie is the kind of humorist we need in these times.
Fair delighted when I discovered this little gem although at 3 hrs and 19 mins it felt a little short, can't really grumble good stuff.
This is not for political geeks, this is for people who suspect they're outraged but aren't sure where to start. I couldn't help feeling all the way through that this would have really helped me form opinions as a teenager. Pie is honest about his lefty swaying but actually trys to remain balanced. Give it to all your teenage neices and nephews, or friends that aren't remotely political. it will actually help them.
Brilliantly written & narrated! I've learned so much about history & politics from Jonathan Pie than any other book or lesson because he makes it funny & puts in simple terms that a pleb like me can understand!
Written by actor Tom Walker and comedian Andrew Doyle, this audiobook is as cutting, intelligent and hilarious as you’d expect.
I listened to the entire thing in one sitting.
Featuring occasional changes and additions to the printed version of the book.
