Publisher's summary

From farmer Joel Salatin's point of view, life in the 21st century just ain't normal. Here, he discusses how far removed we are from the simple, sustainable joy that comes from living close to the land and the people we love. Salatin has many thoughts on what normal is and shares practical and philosophical ideas for changing our lives in small ways that have big impacts.

>Salatin, hailed by the New York Times as "Virginia's most multifaceted agrarian since Thomas Jefferson [and] the high priest of the pasture", and profiled in the Academy Award-nominated documentary Food, Inc. and the best-selling book The Omnivore's Dilemma, understands what food should be: wholesome, seasonal, raised naturally, procured locally, prepared lovingly, and eaten with a profound reverence for the circle of life.

And his message doesn't stop there. From child-rearing to creating quality family time, to respecting the environment, Salatin writes with a wicked sense of humor and true storyteller's knack for the revealing anecdote.

Salatin's crucial message and distinctive voice - practical, provocative, scientific, and down-home philosophical in equal measure - makes Folks, This Ain't Normal a must-listen book.

If you can breath, this is a must listen!

Truth is truth and right is right. This story is about true freedom and personal responsibility, however, starting from where we are in this country it will be a very challenging process.

The sooner we get on with it the sooner there is a chance we can get it done without it being forced on us by a collapse hitting the reset button!

What a great book.

I've already ordered a paperback copy of the book. I will be doing quite a bit of underlining in it. It would be worth the money just to have the list of other books and authors he references! Well done.

Not just for farmers!

This book should be renamed" Our Modern America" and should be required of all High School students. J Salatin hits on so many topics- things you never thought of before, and sheds light on issues that affect all of us.
I can't believe it took me so long to purchase this book, but I will be relistening to it over and oct again.
Since listening, I have purchased several copies for family and friends. This is great listening and necessary for all Americans.

Norms

Even if you don't agree with all of the author's opinions, it is worth reading to challenge yourr thoughts on norms we see every day. Also, due to the author's enthusiasm, I plan on reading his next book.

Back to normal

Thank you Joel and your family and staff got putting out this book. I've now read 2 of your books and I'm hooked. You have helped inspire me to have some backyard chickens and also to process those chickens myself in my back yard. It was a liberating experience. Keep going with your work writing and speaking. You changed my mind about what I eat. Thank you!

Eye Opener!

This book should be heard by all! A comprehensive look at our food system and subsequent health as a planet. It has inspired me to ramp up the backyard garden, get laying hens again, and possibly move towards a small family hobby farm as my retirement plan. Great book Joel!!
