Publisher's summary

When dessert chef Casey Feldstein finds out that her late aunt's business, Yarn2Go, has one more yarn retreat scheduled, she decides to go ahead and host the event, despite her complete lack of experience as a knitter. At least the retreat is on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula.

But the idyllic setting is soured when a retreat regular is found murdered in her hotel room. Feeling a sense of responsibility, Casey begins to weave the clues together and detects a pattern which may shed light on her aunt's suspicious death. Despite the danger, the last thing Casey plans to do is retreat. She'll catch this killer...or dye trying.

Fun mystery...

This was a surprisingly good mystery with interesting characters, I can't wait for the next book!

Pleasantly surprised...

I was hesitant to purchase this book/audiobook as I have very little interest in knitting. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. Betty Hechtman has crafted well developed characters and the storyline was original. Margaret Strom did a nice job of bringing in all to life. I recommend this to fans of cozy mysteries, whether you do or don’t enjoy knitting.

Hallmark movie mystery

Clean, tight writing with a decent premise, but cookie-cutter characters and dialogue. Not much sensory imagery to pull you in. As a non-knitter I found the knitting part mildly interesting, but knitting enthusiasts would probably be bored.

The reader spoke clearly but very slowly. The dialogue sounded even more stilted than it might have otherwise. But then, she wasn't given a lot to work with.

Most of the female characters are stuck in traditional roles, and more excited about baking the perfect muffin or being an ideal wife, mother, or retreat guest than changing the world. They come across as maddeningly helpless. I really wish the heroine had stood up for herself more. Don't even get me started on her idiotic assumptions about her sexy neighbor.

With all that said, I know older women who would love a simple story with easily relatable characters and a lack of graphic sex or violence, so I'm sure it has an audience.

Had to wait until...

...the end to find out about the cat. Looking forward to hearing more about him in the sequels! Other than that, a very enjoyable listening experience! 🤓

Narrator Problem

I do not like Margaret Strom’s narrations. If I had realized she was the narrator from another book which I had heard, I would not have purchased this book. She sounds as if she is reading to children. She both stresses random words and pauses in unnatural places in the sentences. It detracts from book and is distracting to me. From what I read about Ms. Strom, she is highly regarded in her industry, having narrated over 500 works. However, I will not buy another book she reads. The novel itself is good.

Cute cozy mystery and nice easy listen.

Yarn, murder mystery and seaside resort what's not to like? Add a good reader and all is good!

Fun Knitting Theme Murder Mystery

Cute story. Not terribly cerebral but a fun listen, especially if you're a knitter. The voice actress sounds a little old to be the 35 year old protagonist.

Light hearted mystery

I enjoyed this book but I didn’t love it. I did like the different characters in it and enjoyed the story but I don’t know what to say it wasn’t a very gripping book.
I didn’t enjoy the narration, though she did a fine job. (This is really petty) The narrator just had a older sounding voice(to me) and it kept making me forget she was only 35. But for all the other characters she did fine it was just mainly the main character that made me struggle.
Would I listen to another of her books yes. Would I listen to another book by this author yes probably but maybe not right away.

Fun story

Enjoyed the mystery around a knitting retreat - fun combo. Great description of the area and scenery which added to the mystery
