Publisher's summary

In the first thrilling Rogue Winter Novella, sleepy little Solitude, Oregon, wakes up to another deadly threat.

County investigator Seth Harding intends to spend the holidays with his newly reconciled family, but a few days before Christmas, a homicide thwarts his plan. Seth arrives at the scene and makes a painful discovery: the victim is his brother-in-law's girlfriend. Her apartment has been ransacked and her toddler left motherless. To make matters worse, Seth's brother-in-law, Bruce, is missing. With Solitude locked in a rare, deadly deep freeze and the temperature plummeting, the residents launch a desperate search.

Seth calls his wife, social worker Carly Taylor, to take the case so the little girl doesn't get lost in the foster care system. With the holidays near, Carly brings the child home with them to celebrate Christmas. But when the Taylor farm is also trashed, Seth and Carly must race against time - and against a paralyzing winter storm - to find Bruce and catch a killer in the first pulse-pounding sequel to the Rogue River Novellas.

Good cop novella

With Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot writing police thrillers set in sparsely populated southwest Oregon one gets the idea that the area must be the highest crime area in the nation including serial killers. This novella is not about serial killers, but there is a lot of crime including murder.

Melinda Leigh, like Kendra Elliot, is a superb writer and this book is a fine example of her work. Kate Rudd does a fine job of narration.

Recommended.

I couldn't finish this.

If I heard Seth and Carly were working on the marriage one more time I would have started a drinking game. So many items were repeated about that and the mother in laws "feelings" it felt like there wasn't enough to write about. There's retelling then there is repetitive. I got it Seth and Carly needed balance of work and home life. What about the murdered girlfriend? She was mentioned a few times.

Not too believable

Would have liked this more if the reading were not so fast. Story could have been better developed

A little disappointed in the ending.

I did enjoy the story, but these novellas are not satisfying. I did enjoy her characters as usual, but everything felt too condensed with a need to "tie it up with a shiny now."

Enjoy these murder mysteries!

These novellas are addictive. This story revolves around County Detective Seth and his wife, Carly Taylor, whose dad was once the police chief of Solitude. Carly’s brother’s gf has been found dead and he is missing. Can Seth and his team find Bruce before it’s too late? Great HEA.

Easy read with good plot. Would have liked a little longer book to start this series.
