Publisher's summary

Nineteen-year-old Mercy Habernackle is a witch gone off the rails. Causing problems with the law in her hometown, she's faced with two options. Go to a correctional institution or get shipped off to witch boarding school, or as her mother prefers to call it, finishing school. Choosing the latter, Mercy's mother, Linda, drives her daughter cross country to the Paranormal Institute for Witches, situated high in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains in cozy Aspen Falls, Pennsylvania.

Upon arrival, Mercy is faced with cheerful smiles, friendly people, and a sickly sweet roommate who has turned their dorm room into an advertisement for the Pottery Barn. Mercy had hoped her fellow witches would be more like her, dark, dreary, and a little bit self-destructive.

When the murder of a local teenager takes place on the first day of class, Sorceress Stone, headmistress of the college for wayward witches, takes the class on a consulting job to help the Aspen Falls Police Department solve the murder. Mercy and her mismatched classmates find themselves in the heart of the murder investigation and when the body of the murder victim suddenly goes missing and her roommate turns up abducted, Mercy must put aside her feelings of resentment about her gift and put her paranormal abilities to good use.

Throw in a smokin' hot cowboy wizard, a black cat that seems to be stalking her, and a Black Witch and you've got the first book in the new Witch Squad Cozy Mystery Series where the twists and turns just don't stop!

Great Cozy Mystery with Outstanding Narrator

This is one of my favorite cozy mysteries I’ve ever listened to. I was hoping for a good story line and characters and this far surpassed all my expectations! I’m not familiar with this author but she just moved into my list of must read authors.

Narration was amazing! I loved her multiple voices which made it easy to identify who was talking. Her narration brought the story to life and it was hard to put it down!

I love paranormal Cozy mysteries with fun characters and interesting plots with some twists and turns to keep you engaged. Here you will find witches, warlocks, ghosts, and a Cozy mystery with a touch of romance!

I truly loved this Cozy Mystery and will be looking to get the next book in this outstanding series! The story wraps up nicely in the conclusion and they also throw in a bit of new news to get you interested in what is to come on book 2.

Witches, A murder, Evil, Mystery, Warlocks too!

The Witch Squad
A Witch Squad Cozy Mystery, Book 1
By: M.Z. Andrews
Narrated by: Lisa Cordileone
This was far better than I ever expected it would be. I expected it would be a teen book and really didn't think it would have the depth I wanted. I tried it and boy was I surprised! This was a true gem! A fun book with the paranormal side, great characters, wonderful plot, silliness, a mystery, side things to keep your mind going, a school of witches and warlocks learning their craft, evil lurking about, and a touch of romance. I truly enjoyed this book and will look for other books in this series.
This was an audible book and the narrator was perfect for this book! I loved her silliness when needed and the multiple voices she did so well!!! Great job!

Delightful light mystery and coming of age

The adventures of the Witch Squad entertain those of us who remember coming of age. Not quite fully formed witches replace our awkward adolescence, without the actual angst. I think those who just are coming of age will enjoy it too.

Not entirely for me

The Witch Squad
My review is based on book 1 and 2 in the Witch Squad series. (no spoilers)
After finishing book 1, I wasn’t really engaged or hooked on the series, but I couldn’t put my finger on why. There wasn’t an obvious thing I disliked.
So I decided to listen to book 2 before writing my review.

Now having finished book 2, I can say with certainty this series isn’t a good fit for me.
Book 2 had a high ‘young adult vibe’. It’s not very serious, but also not very funny.
I had some moral issues with some of the things that happen and I noticed some inconsistencies.
I did like that both book 1 and 2 have a completed story arc. I always appreciate that very much in a series.
And I enjoyed book 1 much more than book 2.

The narration was good.
The only thing I disliked about the performance was the character voice of one of the girls. It was permanently whiny.
I understand it’s a challenge to try and give everyone a distinct character voice, but I would rather have several character voices sound the same, than having to listen to such a whiny character voice. Very hard to take that character serious because of the way she was narrated.

I got this Audio Book for free (thanks!). I'm voluntarily leaving this review.

Fun and not disappointing

(As posted in GoodReads)
The epitome of a cozy mystery. It was fun, not terrifying, and relatable. I enjoyed it.

This is a fun YA paranormal book. There are some great characters and developed backstories. Interesting plot line.

The Witch Squad

Mercy is 19 years old and is being driven to finishing school as her mother charmingly puts it. In actuality it's a college for witches. Mercy's mother is hoping that going here will help her mature. Mercy has been in trouble a lot and this is her punishment so she is not really accepting of her situation. When she arrives at the college, she is less than thrilled with her roommate or the other girls in the dorm. On her first day in class, there is a murder in the town. The headmistress is called in for consultation. Being in the classroom when summoned by the police for her help, she takes her class with strict instructions as to their behavior. Then Mercy sees the dead girl's ghost. From this point on life gets complicated.
Lisa Cordileone has a voice that soothes as you listen but draws you into the story line as she brings each character to life.
Fantastic audio and story.

Cute Cozy Mystery

Very well written cute witch cozy mystery. I loved that each of the characters was different and how they worked as a team to solve the murder.

The narrator gave an excellent performance. I would have liked a little more voice differentiation between characters but when there are 5 or 6 girls that are all around the same age, (often in the same setting) I imagine it must have been difficult to pull off. I was able to tell who was speaking mostly and didn't really have to rewind to figure it out. Otherwise, I thought it was perfect.

A Cozy Mystery for All

This is a young adult/coming of age cozy mystery but written well enough to entertain us adults too. I wasn't really sure what to expect but found myself thoroughly entertained. The story is well written with adventure, suspense, twists & turns and a touch of romance. This is a clean story, so the younger crowd interested can read this with no problems. The narration is wonderfully done. Lisa Cordileone really did a great job with the many voices and their emotions. She really brought the story to life and easily pulls the listener into the story from the very beginning! A great and fun story good for all to listen to. I look forward to the next installment.
