Publisher's summary

Gerry Wade had proved himself to be a champion sleeper, so the other houseguests decided to play a practical joke on him. Eight alarm clocks were set to go off, one after the other, starting at 6:30 a.m. But when morning arrived, one clock was missing and the prank then backfired, with tragic consequences.

For Jimmy Thesiger in particular, the words "Seven Dials" were to take on a new and chilling significance....

A Classic

Though not as we’ll known as other Agatha Christie novels, this mystery is as well written and fun as some other more famous ones. The Emilia Fox reading is priceless.

Funny and a Good Story

One of Christie's funniest books that flies along. Great performance by the reader. Top notch!

Great narration!

I am a huge Christie fan and this one was a treat. Thoroughly enjoyed the narration and of course, the story was outstanding.

Stunning ending

I couldn't believe the ending...never had clue. This was an enjoyable story, and the tie-in to The Secret of Chimneys was an added pleasure.

I had to warm up to the narrator and would hesitate to buy an audiobook with her as the reader again. She has a nasal, high-pitched voice that is jarring to the ear. Diana Bishop (Patricia Wentworth's Miss Silver series) has a cultured, smooth voice that would be better suited to classic British country house mysteries.

A classic mystery

Agatha Christie delivers on yet another well-carried mystery with a stellar leading lady. Though the ending is a little weak.
That said, Amelia Fox's performance brings the whole thing to life.

it's ok no more no less

not one of Christie's best. it's ok with a bit of surprise ending but many loose ends. narration is nice but again not amazing. it's ok if you have a long drive and nothing else to do . but I can't recommend it highly

Mystery plus humor!

I loved the humor throughout all of this mystery! Agatha Christie doesn’t disappoint. 😁

I did need to speed up the narration, but when I did it was perfect!

It's Agatha, but not Hugh

I love Agatha Christie as much as the next person but I really struggled to get through this one. Like many reviewers, I found Emilia Fox's performance to be over the top and extremely hard to listen to. Probably like many of those folks, my library is full of outstanding Hugh Frasier narrations so it's entirely possible this only suffers by comparison. It was so hard to listen to it's hard to even comment on the quality of the story. If you're a new collector of the Christie Cannon from audible by all means try this one out. If you're addicted to Hugh Frasier give this a pass. You won't like it.

A light mystery

Any additional comments?

The story has Christie's usual cleverness, but is much lighter in tone than most of her other novels. Emilia Fox did a competent job narrating, but in a good performance, the voice actor or actress disappears; however, at various points (especially with older male characters), all I could hear was an actress doing a funny voice. Her voice for Superintendent Battle was particularly distracting, which made key scenes less effective. I still enjoyed it overall, though.

Another Christie Masterpiece

The story was complicated. Only Christie can create such a tangled plot and unravel it so well. Enjoyable.
