When Autumn Carpenter stumbles upon the social media account of the family who adopted her infant daughter years ago, she finds herself instantly drawn into their picture-perfect existence.

From behind a computer screen, Autumn watches Grace's every memory, from birthdays to holidays to bedtime snuggles. But what starts as an innocent fascination soon spirals into an addictive obsession that comes to a screeching halt the day the McMullen family closes their Instaface account without so much as a warning.

Frantic and desperate to reconnect with her daughter, Autumn applies for a nanny position with the McMullens, manipulating herself into Grace's life under false pretenses. And it's only then that Autumn discovers pictures lie, the perfect family doesn't exist, and beautiful people? They have the ugliest secrets.

Any additional comments?

If you're looking for a fresh, relevant, unpredictable psychological thriller, you'll like this book because the summary doesn't do justice for the depth of the characters and plot development. The author doesn't use cheap surprises and curve balls for shock value, rather she allows details to unravel on their own to speak for itself. I was wrong almost every time I assumed something and was left impressed with the author's ability to not include unconnected elements. I read a few negative reviews and I think they're due to not just accepting certain realities and not understanding how traumatized people can be left from the past - without this, I can see how one may think some content and detail the author provides to the story line are far-fetched. This book definitely held my interest throughout and I highly recommend it.

I did not see that coming!

Several surprises in this story. I would classify this one as a "light psycho thriller" if there is such a thing. The ending seemed abrupt, but I enjoyed the book and the narration.

Loved this book!

Don't expect blood and gore or fast car scenes. This story is a slow burn. The characters are very believable and the plot could take place in any city to people you know. I felt like I knew them all or people just like them. That's what made this book so enjoyable to me. It's pace was fast with no parts dragging. Even though I knew a big part of the story was yet to be revealed, the ending took me by surprise. I wish it didn't end! This is the kind of book that great movies are made from!

Excellent psychological thriller

This was a real treat. It kept my interest all the way through. you definitely don't see what's coming. I was really Caught off gaurd by the ending. I am sad to see that there are no more books by Minka Kent on offer. I would definitely read her again. The performance was also excellent.

I love it! Didn't see the end coming!

If you could sum up The Memory Watcher in three words, what would they be?

Blew my mind!

Any additional comments?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Peeking inside the minds of the two main characters made them both seem very real. It brings into perspective that you don't ever really know someone just from the outside appearance or even their actions. The story developed smoothly and kept me wanting to listen. I thought the first main twist was amazing, then there was another and the final twist at the end - wow! I had to smile and say to the author - you got me! I never would have guessed. Great book!! Buy it - you won't be disappointed!

This One Will Drag You in and Not let Go

I listened to this book during a very long bus trip with a high school group. I thought that it would be a distraction from the noises if excited teens headed to a Broadway show. Instead, this book and the amazing narration sucked me in and I was a goner.

It is one of throes rare tales in which you don't know which characters to hate, which to love . Several times I felt that it was becoming formulaic, only to find that the author did this on purpose to add a twist or turn.

This book will hold your attention, for sure. My only objection is to some gratuitous sex scenes that were not in line with the way the rest of the tale was told . It was as though the author thought that she needed to toss in some mild porn, didn't know where to place the scenes so randomly tossed in some grunting, groaning and very descriptive anatomy lessons. This actually took away from the story line as it made the tale stilted in places .

Interesting psychological/suspense thriller

The Memory Watcher is the debut novel of Minka Kent and it is a wild and twisted ride. Someone is crazy; is it Daphne McMullen the married mother of three or Daphne's cheating husband Graham or could it be Autumn Carpenter the young woman who is the McMullen's neighbor who is hired to take care of their three children? Who is a murderer who kills the woman who is both Graham's lover and the sister of Autumn's live-in boyfriend? This wonderful novel develops the characters thoroughly before the surprise ending. The two female narrators do a very nice job.

I award The Memory Watcher the 5 stars it earns. Rarely do debut authors write a novel of such high quality.

It's hard to like this book

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No, it's hard to like a book when you dislike every single character in it.

Would you ever listen to anything by Minka Kent again?

Not sure

Have you listened to any of Sally Vahle and Morgan Laure ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was The Memory Watcher worth the listening time?

No. I kept listening just to see how it would end but I did not enjoy it.

Lifetime movie / just ok

I couldn't help thinking the whole time I listened that this would be a good lifetime movie. It was a decent read but I don't think in a few months I will remember this book. Nothing really stood out to me. My rating really is a 3.5 (for the surprise ending). Wish then allowed for half stars.
