Publisher's Summary

INCLUDES AN EXTENDED INTERVIEW WITH NELSON DEMILLE AND SCOTT BRICK!

From the legendary number-one New York Times best-selling author of Plum Island and Night Fall, Nelson DeMille's blistering new novel features an exciting new character - US Army combat veteran Daniel "Mac" MacCormick, now a charter boat captain, who is about to set sail on his most dangerous cruise.

Daniel Graham MacCormick - Mac for short - seems to have a pretty good life. At age 35 he's living in Key West, owner of a 42-foot charter fishing boat, The Maine. Mac served five years in the army as an infantry officer, with two tours in Afghanistan. He returned with the Silver Star, two Purple Hearts, scars that don't tan, and a boat with a big bank loan. Truth be told, Mac's finances are more than a little shaky.

One day Mac is sitting in the famous Green Parrot Bar in Key West, contemplating his life and waiting for Carlos, a hotshot Miami lawyer heavily involved with anti-Castro groups. Carlos wants to hire Mac and The Maine for a 10-day fishing tournament to Cuba at the standard rate, but Mac suspects there is more to this and turns it down. The price then goes up to $2 million, and Mac agrees to hear the deal and meet Carlos's clients - a beautiful Cuban American woman named Sara Ortega and a mysterious older Cuban exile, Eduardo Valazquez.

What Mac learns is that there is 60 million American dollars hidden in Cuba by Sara's grandfather when he fled Castro's revolution. With the "Cuban Thaw" underway between Havana and Washington, Carlos, Eduardo, and Sara know it's only a matter of time before someone finds the stash - by accident or on purpose. And Mac knows if he accepts this job, he'll walk away rich...or not at all.

Brilliantly written, with his signature humor, fascinating authenticity from his research trip to Cuba, and heart-pounding pace. Nelson DeMille is a true master of the genre.

"Can’t extricate the author from his best character"

The story was enjoyable, nonstop intrigue, and educational. I am not sure in its narrative development of introducing a new character the author succeeded. The wit and sarcasm of Mac was 100% John Corey. I love Scott Brick, but it sounded like a Corey novel set in the Caribbean.

    "DeMille visits Cuba"

I agree with the review that said this is a version of "Up Country", only in Cuba, and no
where near as good. DeMille obviously has recently visited Cuba and most of the book
is just a veiled travel log. The story is not believable, and the ending is truly "deus ex machina".
This is one of his least satisfying efforts.

The performance by Scott Brick is to notch, as always, but even he can't save the lame
    story.

    "Stopped reading"

Childish, not at all like his earlier books. I rarely stop a mystery but I did with this one

    "Unconvincing"

Lead character too sarcastic and was spoken that way. He seemed emotionless except for anger. I couldn’t believe Sarah would love such a person. Story itself an unconvincing premise.

    "Probably His Best!"

It's a book that takes you back in time if you're in your sixties and brings you into the present in Cuba. The character is new for the author and just as great as John Corey. I spent a number of times sitting in my car In The dark and not entering my office waiting for the chapter to end. That says it all ! As always the best narration by Scott Brick .

    "DeMille"

Couldn’t even get halfway through. Narration was amateurish and annoying. Sorely disappointed as I so enjoyed his other books. How do give less than 1 star?

"Not DeMille's best, but well worth the listen"

Always enjoy DeMille's books, plots, characters, and dialogue (both internal and external). Unlike previous books, he repeats himself a lot in this one; it could have been a little shorter and tighter. Still very entertaining.

    "I didn't finish this book"

Great performance and the story was so realistic that I couldn't finish listing to it. I found myself getting depressed by the complete hopelessness of the Cuban people. I will finish the book, but at a later time.

    "A great read"

This book is one of the best I've listened to in a while. Nelson DeMille is a great story teller. He writes with a certain sense of dry humor that I really like. It had twists at every turn and was very suspenseful. You really felt like you were in Cuba.
The narrator is excellent. His voice characterizations are spot on.

    "Not so good"

Monotonous tone by the reader. I swear at chapter 35 or so a new reader was reading. The story was pretty slow paced and boring. I am not a fan of this book. I wish I could get a refund.
