Captain Ann Campbell is a West Point graduate, the daughter of legendary General "Fighting Joe" Campbell. She is the pride of Fort Hadley until, one morning, her body is found, naked and bound, on the firing range.

Paul Brenner is a member of the Army's elite undercover investigative unit and the man in charge of this politically explosive case. Teamed with rape specialist Cynthia Sunhill, with whom he once had a tempestuous, doomed affair, Brenner is about to learn just how many people were sexually, emotionally, and dangerously involved with the Army's "golden girl". And how the neatly pressed uniforms and honor codes of the military hide a corruption as rank as Ann Campbell's shocking secret life.©1999 Nelson DeMille (P)2009 Hachette

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Long before the John Travolta film of The General's Daughter...Nelson DeMille's seventh mystery was the breakout hit of his career. The rapid-fire dialogue and scenes are cinematic, and the storytelling puts most movies to shame....This is one racy read, and it crackles with authenticity. DeMille is a Vietnam veteran who does for military justice what John Grisham does for civilians." (Amazon.com review)
Multilayered Tale • Complex Mystery • Excellent Narration • Intriguing Plot Twists • Thought-provoking Issues

It took me a long time to get to reading/listening this book, which is suprising since I admire Mr. DeMille very much. Some of the details are difficult to experience and I think it was this gifted author's intention. If you enjoy well written, intelligent books, with well-defined characters and a story that has something to say, then you'll love this book as I did. Also: Mr. Brick gives another outstanding performance!

Haunting story

What made the experience of listening to The General's Daughter the most enjoyable?

I had no idea what this story was about when I started. Wow, what a surprise. It definitely kept me interested and the list of suspects made it impossible to get ahead of the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The General's Daughter?

I did not have an aha! moment.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Any additional comments?

Well developed story and characters. I particularly liked the author’s introduction to the book. It was helpful.

Would you consider the audio edition of The General's Daughter to be better than the print version?

Scott Brick is an absolutely awesome reader. I can't imagine anyone doing DeMille better than him.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I get so hooked on DeMille stories that I find time to be alone just to listen.

Any additional comments?

Great stories, good humor, fantastic entertainment.

DeMille is number one

… And One of those books you can hardly wait to resume if you’re driving from one event to the other and this is playing in car. This is my third Nelson DeMille, so I do enjoy his yarns, But in my mind the difference between a pretty good thriller and a great one depends upon the ultimate question “could it have actually happened?”. (Which is why I believe “Deliverance”, “The Day of the Jackal” and “To Kill a Mockingbird” are at the top of the genre,). As a career combat veteran soldier with not a little time as both an officer and in the enlisted ranks, Paul Brenner simply could not exist. With all respect to Vietnam veteran Nelson DeMille - soldiers neither talk nor act to each other – nor take such liberties with rank (Even if they are senior CID) as what was depicted. I served in the Special Forces and in the Judge Advocate General Corps where there is no shortage of familiarity, but no investigator would be so free range or flippant with Colonels and Generals. In addition, the very premise of a rogue Captain like Ann Campbell successfully acting out such an elaborate (and prolonged) agenda causes me to raise a skeptical eyebrow. But these are minor criticisms given every author’s right to exercise literary license, and, as I said above, this seizes the interest and doesn’t let go. So if you are looking for a thrilling who-done-it (and are willing to overlook the impossibly smart ass on steroids CW4) this is well worth your time.

Definitely a page turner…

I read this book every ten years or so to remind myself how good DeMille is and what good narration can do to make it even better! One of the better books by one of the better authors around.

Still a great read!!

Was not sure I would like this but I had a hard time putting it down. Very good character development, great suspense, and kept me guessing, usually wrongly, about the perpetrator. Brenner is determined, dogged and consistently bends rules and protocols, but gets the job done, at great personal cost. This book illustrates the best and worst of human nature and that people are capable of both aspects. People doing bad things for good reasons, etc.
Any time I see Scott Brick as the narrator I will usually give the book a chance. He is one of my all time favorite performers, and seemingly keeps getting better.
This book is worth the credit and time to hear.

Very good

I saw the movie when it came out, have long ago forgotten the plot. This book is quite an epic work. The length allows the author to fully explore both the story and characters that surround the murder. The genius is that the presentation of this information creates rising tension and provides the background that only adds to the mystery. I knew I was hooked when I woke up this morning and ignore my typical routine to finish the last 4 hours. You won't regret spending a credit on this book.

Movies aren't books...

Character development. Pace. Narration. All amazing. Greedily came back day after day to listen. Do yourself a favor and download this today.

Brilliant narration. Riveted from page 1 through the end.

The intrigue and excitement of the unknown. I was constantly attempting to figure out who the killer was.

Exciting Military Novel

As Mr. DeMille said in the forward about the movie and being sceptical of John Travolta as Paul Brenner. I like John Travolta but Paul Brenner in the book is not John Travolta. (does that make sense?) Needless to say the book is a great listen and I recommend it.

A lot better than the movie
