Publisher's summary

The US Speaker of the House is assassinated in a terrifyingly precise execution in the heart of Washington, DC. In a quieter corner of the nation's capital, the rare book room of the Library of Congress, a reclusive, wealthy scholar drops dead under mysterious circumstances that leave no clues. Following on the heels of the natural death of the Speaker of the House, the city and the nation begin to tremble. In California, a beautiful but capable woman is planning and executing one of the most brilliant cons on record.

All the while, "Oliver Stone" and his quirky Camel Club stand by and observe as the genius of their collective perspective begins to connect the dots between these seemingly disparate events - and they realize they must act, and act quickly, before their country falls victim to a silent yet bloody coup.

Difficult to listen to!!!

I like the story so far but this is by far the worst narration I have experienced within the last 50 books that I have listened to. While listening to this book I found my self so distracted by the chalk board grating voice of the primary narrator that I would forget what was going on in the story. I am a very loyal listener to authors that I like, but I highly recommend you save your money on this one and just read the book.

Horrible narration

I'm only about an hour into this one, and about ready to throw into the recycling bin. One main narrator and two voice actors. The narrator has a high-pitched carnival-announcer tone, and the voice actors use essentially the same voices for all characters. It's irritating in a dialogue between two to three characters for the silly narrator to chime in between each sentence with "Leo said", "Tony asked", "Tony asked gruffly", etc., etc. Makes it ridiculously hard to listen to. I liked "The Camel Club" and was hoping to enjoy the next adventure of the Camel Club, but I think I may have to buy the print version. I find it much easier to listen to one person doing everything than this insipid method. Please find a better narrator and re-release the book. Why hire a narrator who can't do different voices? What's Scott Brick up to?

The story's OK if you can survive the narration

This is hands-down the most poorly-narrated book I've listened to. I have never understood some publishers' desire to turn a book reading into a 21st century "Amateur Radio Hour". One person narrates while 2 others perform the voices. If the disjointed feel of having both the voice and inflection change mid-sentence isn't bad enough, I have to say that the "voice actors" are about the same caliber as your average adult movie - in other words their talent does NOT carry the story. It's difficult to follow the plot at times because of how hard this book is to listen to.

Buy the book and read it

The story is rather interesting however, I have tried to listen to this audio book several times, but had to stop after an hour or so, because of the narration of this audio book.

Do not buy this audio book, just go to one of the other Baldacci books and try those. This isn't worth while listening to, you better of reading this one. The audio example does not let you hear the parts where the narration gets very irritating, so don't let get fooled by it.

David Baldacci is one of my favorite writers!

Maybe I should have read this one

I agree with the other reviews, I haven't gotten past the first few chapters because the narration is not what I expect from audio books and I find it annoying and distracting. I enjoy reading David Baldacci's books, some more than others, but I did enjoy the Camel Club which is why I made this purchase but again, the narration is not acceptable.

Horrible/Distracting Narration

This is my 24th book I have heard on tape and my 4th Baldacci book. He is an excellent story teller and have enjoyed all of them. However, of all the books on tape this is by far the worst narration I have heard. Having 3 narrators (one male and one female AND one story teller) is very choppy and a HUGE distraction. ONE NARRATOR PLEASE! Of note: the excellent reading of "Stone Cold."

Good Plot, lousy narration

I really enjoyed The Camel Club and I liked the plot twist in The Collectors. It'S good to be with the Club again. However, I have to agree with the reviewers who had a hard time with the narration. I did finally get use to it, but actually laughed out-load during the love scenes,i.e. "You are sooooo sexy." "SHE COOED!" Yikes! I just pray that the next installment has a better narrator(s).

Read the book or listen at 2.0x speed

The narration is brutal. I've tried listening to it twice and couldn't do it. Due to my job though, I'm always traveling. I tried listening at 2.0x speed, and it actually was a lot better.

Superb narration

The book is very exciting and the narrators are extremely good. Listening to this audio book is similar to listening to a very thrilling radio play!
