Story
Dylan Townsend stands on the beach watching commercial jets fall out of the sky like oak leaves twirling in the wind. A wing shears off the one closest to the shore just before it splashes down in the sea. Why was she telling him this outlandish story? What sort of tourist agency would offer people a front row seat to the end of the world? More importantly, why would anyone book such a vacation if there wasn't any way home afterward?

Her cell phone rings, bringing an offer that may postpone her soul searching. The discovery of an airplane graveyard containing a dozen commercial airliners is shocking. When the salvage camera reveals them to be virtually undamaged under in the Indian Ocean, theories abound. Who put them there? How are they still in one piece? What reason could there be? Story
John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce—and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding. Earth itself is a backwater.

Death and deception: Appearances are often deceiving and that is the underlying premise in this collection of short crime fiction. In "Live Free or Die" naive 21-year-old Emmy falls hard for 31-year-old Jack, an efficiency expert from New Hampshire who is not all what he seems. In "Murder in the Marsh" cyclist Carrie Anne Camack discovers more than she bargained for in the fertile farmlands of Ontario's Holland Marsh. In the final story, "The Cycopaths", a triathlon team's open-water swim training in Collingwood, Ontario, has deadly consequences.

Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Story
It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Loving It
Would you listen to The Calling Tree again? Why?
Yes, I plan on reading this story again, as it kept my interest throughout the entire story. That is a big bonus for me.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Calling Tree?
Realizing that your life is in danger: that is what Dominick Dunn realizes... and has to face that danger head on.
Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene ... well, pretty much the entire book.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Immortal. Danger.
Any additional comments?
Nope, though this is a very well written book... each character is brought out by both the author and the narrater, and is a very enjoyable story.
I was provided a free copy of this book for a honest opinion.

Great Change of Pace
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend and have already done so! The book is interesting and different. Lots of twists and turns and a good pace throughout. Looking forward to the next in the series (but this was definitely able to stand alone, no big cliffhangers at the end of the book.) Even though I have reservations about the hero's and heroine's jobs, I found the characters likable.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
It kept moving and had interesting twists.
Which scene was your favorite?
Rhea at the airport.

Definitely NOT My Last C.F. Waller Book!!!
They just keep getting better! The Calling Tree is my 3rd C.F. Waller book, and definitely NOT my last. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to the next book. I could not put this one down! Loaded w/action, mystery, adventure and surprises all the way to the end. Narration by Wyatt Baker was great, he managed different voices for each character, and they were consistent, very well done!

A CROWDED ARENA OF IMMORTAL DISTRUST
Any additional comments?
I was provided this audiobook through Audiobook Boom at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.
I think this book was fascinating. The world Waller created was fresh and added a new twist to the “Immortality” theme. His writing is comprehensive with moments to chuckle and questions to ponder. Although I very much enjoyed the story, all their abrupt “endings” were pretty dismal. Research on DNA and biblical references were woven in well. The Angel/Demon and Heaven/Hell references never became apparent. I was left with wondering if there really was a good or bad side. But there was no question as to who I disliked.
There were so many people involved at the end... and that’s my main complaint. Too many unnecessary people with no distinct hero.
This is going to be hard for me to explain... sorry if it makes no sense.
When the story begins, Dominic Dunn appears to be the main character. In reality, his character wasn’t even needed. Ron-E, another on his team, was the only one to actually do anything, at least, anything important. She could have fulfilled both character’s roles. Aaron Wessker is introduced a bit later. These two turn out to be the leading characters. I think there were too many people having too many dialogs that just weren’t necessary. Any information I gained from the supporting cast could have been worked into furthering relationship growths between the most important characters.
Wyatt Baker’s reading was fabulous. Hope to hear more from him.
Two Thumbs Up.

Another FANTASTIC novel by CF Waller
Have you ever listened too or read a novel where you thought it was going in one direction and went a completely different way? C.F. Waller is becoming one of my favorite authors quickly. Every time I listen or read another one of his novels I think I'm not going to enjoy it as much as his others and BAM, it ends up being better than the one I had already finished. The Calling Tree is an excellent novel about immortality. Wyatt Baker does an amazing job at expressing emotions and making each character unique.
At first not having read much on what this book was actually about and just seeing who the author was, I was thinking it was going to have some kind of vampire or other twist to it when I realized immortality was one of the main themes throughout the novel, but if that is what you are looking for then The Calling Tree is not the book for you! However, if you like novels about immortality, the true nature of humans, history and family, then The Calling Tree is a must add to your list. I read a lot of books addressing the whole immortality subject. Whether it be vampires, werewolves, making a name for themselves through art, writing or something else. There are tons on the subject, but I haven't read one until now where the subject isn't over blown, it just simply is a matter of living. This is how I would think an immortal would live their life.
You should really listen to this audio book! So far I have to admin my recommendations to now say you need to listen and read everything by C.F. Waller because I can't just pick one book from his collection that I like the most!

Great start of an interesting series
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This was a fantastic book about immortality and the human condition. The book had a lot of characters and, at times, that was challenging to keep straight, but it never detracted from the experience. The narrator was decent. He had good inflection, and didn't sound like he was just reading aloud. I'll admit it was not a predictable story and I didn't know where things were going, but I sure wanted to stick with it and find out. To me, that is the true sign of a good book.

I Said "Immortal", not "Immoral"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I have recommended this book to several of my friends. Mr. Waller has a vivid imagination and the ability to develop characters and a storyline that is interesting and plausible. It makes the listener wonder what else he has up his sleeve.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Calling Tree?
The most interesting and therefore memorable moments are definitely when Shelly shows up and arranges characters in boxes. Some of these descriptions will make you cringe while you listen harder not to miss the details.
What about Wyatt Baker’s performance did you like?
He made the characters unique and recognizable without over indulging individual nuances. It was an easy listen as the narrator didn't over power the story. He nailed Shelly perfectly.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No extreme reaction. I enjoyed listening and was never bored or distracted. Can't wait for the following stories.
Any additional comments?
Recommend this book with an "A" rating. A well done story without gratuitous profanity or sexual references.

You're only two call away from death
Prior to the Internet They used to say you were two calls away from anyone else in the world. In the calling tree, to be two call always means you are dead. Our two semi immortals find themselves at the bottom of the calling tree, exposed and hunted they band together with an ex cab driver in Vegas to elude the true immortals and the private mercenaries that seek them out. One to obliterate them the other two harness their genes to extend their own lives. Be ready for a rollercoaster ride of a multi sided chase with a shock of an ending with plenty of twists. And remember folks. Never. Never never piss off a little girl. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Great Book
I enjoyed listening to this book, I was a little skeptical about it at first, however Wyatt Baker did an amazing job keeping me hooked on the words of C.F. Waller. I must say I look forward to reading or listening to more from both parties. I would definitely recommend this book

The Calling Tree is definitely not what I expected
The Calling Tree: A Tale of Immortality
By: C. F. Waller Narrated by: Wyatt Baker
The Calling Tree is definitely not what I expected; it was a pleasant surprise. When it comes to immortality, Waller writes in a completely different way. I found myself actually rooting for the bad guys for a bit. This is a great start to a new series. The mystery and suspense will keep readers on the edge of their seat. It took me a while to get into it, but once I did, I couldn’t stop listening! I loved The Calling Tree and recommend it to all readers. The overall rating for me is 4 stars for the story and 4 stars for the narration.
