Publisher's Summary

In utter disbelief, Miss Marple read the letter addressed to her from the recently deceased Mr. Rafiel...an acquaintance she had met briefly on her travels. He had left instructions for her to investigate a crime after his death. The only problem was, he had failed to tell her who was involved or where and when the crime had been committed. It was most intriguing.

Soon she is faced with a new crime...the ultimate crime...murder. It seems someone is adamant that past evils remained buried....

Not Prime Time Miss Marple

What could Agatha Christie have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

This was so drawn out, with endless repetition of the slim facts and clues of this almost non-existent mystery. Almost no story, but the characters, as always in Agatha Christie, are fun. Great narration by Emilia Fox !

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Very disappointing. The first Agatha Christie that I didn't enjoy.

Most Excellent!

I prefer Poirot mysteries but occasionally toss in a Miss Marple for a change.

For the most part, it typically feels like Miss Marple sits and observes and then pronounces but in this particular story she is up front and center and actively involved - and she has no idea even what she is supposed to be investigating, let alone who! This sort of gives the reader a sense of "we are in this together" as the story unfolds. Highly recommend.

Good story, good narration.

Consistently good author, one of my favorites. I guessed wrong "whodunit" but thankfully Miss Marple did not. Nicely narrated too.

Excellent performance of a great Christie.

Excellent performance by Emilia Fox. Classic Christie murder mystery. I very much enjoyed listening. One of her better stories, I think.

Nemesis

I think it's one of the best Miss Marple stories yet. I enjoyed the narrator very much.

A very predictable ending

A good start but far too easy to guess the ending-- especially considering the length of the book.

Wonderful Performance

Nemesis is one of my favorite Agatha Christie stories - great storyline, compelling and well-rounded characters. Emilia Fox is a good narrator and she does a good job of bringing the story to life. The one downside is her limited repertoire of voices - some of her character voices for males and females are indistinguishable from each other. This limitation in no way detracts from the story in my opinion.

not the best Agatha Christie

This story was too long and drawn out. Seemed like lots of repetition and too many words to tell a story that could have been told with less. Too many minor characters of no interest. I also guessed the murderer a little too soon. Disappointing.

A very rewarding listen!

Slowly unfolding tale with little action but a lot of ingenuity and clever deduction by Miss Marple--who deftly peels back the history of a long buried secret in a search for justice that only she can find. Nice resolution with a satisfying twist.

Miss Marple is an unlikely but powerful nemesis

This is a sequel of sorts to A Carabean Mystery. Miss Marple is brilliant in her typical soft-spoken, elderly appearance. I would have loved to hear Joan Hickson read her parts but was very pleased with Emilia Fox.
