Publisher's summary

Micah Sloane knows almost everything there is to know about Risa Clay, including the vicious betrayal she endured years ago and the distrust she’s harbored ever since. The only way for the Elite Ops agent to uncover an assassin - and banish the ghosts of his own dark past - is to use Risa as bait. But nothing has prepared him for her disarming blend of innocence and sensuality, or for his overwhelming need to protect her.…

Risa has spent six years rebuilding her life. And now, to save it, she must pose as Micah’s lover and draw a killer into the open. It’s a risky plan - especially with a man as powerfully seductive as Micah. But, as their charade becomes reality, Risa realizes the greatest danger may lie in losing her heart forever.…

Just Okay

Would you try another book from Lora Leigh and/or Clarissa Knightly?

I listen to a lot of Lora Leigh's books. Will listen to both again.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Okay. Wildcard ending was better.

Did Clarissa Knightly do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

You could tell the characters apart but Risa in ecstasy was annoying, whiny after a while just wanted her to be done.Other characters were good.

Did Maverick inspire you to do anything?

No

Pointless to buy

I love her books, I listened to the first two elite ops books and they were great but pointless to buy since the three books after the first two don’t exist in audiobook version, then it has another book after this 3 missing ones then missing the one after that. It’s crazy and I shouldn’t have even purchased before I did my research. Wanted to buy the others but it kinda leaves you hanging. So not worth it.

Disappointed....

Would you try another book from Lora Leigh and/or Clarissa Knightly?

Yes, if it is part of the KGI series - this series....NO.

Has Maverick turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not as much as some of the other characters - particularly Jordan. Even though he redeemed himself a bit at the end. Not enough to make me like him. Too murky/gray in his motives. Too cold. He was willing to allow agents to be used and abused for the greater "good." Yikes, he was creepy to me.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Clarissa Knightly?

Yes

What character would you cut from Maverick?

Jordan

Any additional comments?

I was very, very disappointed in this book. While the plot was good - there was too many wasted scenes trying to get to the plot. I don't mind gritty and I don't mind suspense, but I DO NOT like characters that are supposed to be the good guys coming across almost as disgusting as the bad guy. Jordan really turned me off and although he was a secondary character - I found it hard to believe this "team" was a team at all. They mostly came across as cold and dispassionate. As much as I enjoy a good steamy romance - this one was over the top - headed to raunchy. Plus, it came across that the multiple sex scenes were the author's attempt to cover all positions/ways they could do it. It did not always enhance the characters or the story. It just seemed excessively gratuitous. The KGI series is much, much better.
