Publisher's Summary

Eve Hardaway, newly single mother of one, is on a trip she’s long dreamed of - a rafting and hiking tour through the jungles and mountains of Oaxaca, in southern Mexico. Eve wanders off the trail, to a house in the distance with a menacing man in the yard beyond it, throwing machetes at a human-shaped target. Disturbed by the sight, Eve moves quickly and quietly back to her group, taking care to avoid being seen. As she creeps along, she finds a broken digital camera, marked with the name Teresa Hamilton. Later that night, in a rarely used tourist cabin, she finds a discarded prescription bottle - also with the name Teresa Hamilton. From the camera’s memory card, Eve discovers Teresa Hamilton took a photo of that same menacing looking man in the woods. Teresa Hamilton has since disappeared.

Now the man in the woods is after whoever was snooping around his house. With a violent past and deadly mission, he will do anything to avoid being discovered. A major storm wipes out the roads and all communication with the outside world. Now the tour group is trapped in the jungle with a dangerous predator with a secret to protect. With her only resource her determination to live, Eve must fight a dangerous foe and survive against incredible odds - if she's to make it back home alive.

Exciting read & much to learn about Mexico jungles

What made the experience of listening to Don't Look Back the most enjoyable?

This book combines horrifying natural killers (bugs, plants, crocs), a heartless human killer with weather that can also kill you and pits it all against a "trying to find myself" woman who has undergone a recent divorce and a very unsatisfying job change. Not your typical super woman by any means, she nevertheless does find herself. I recommend it, I think, although it's not for everyone.

Page turner

I am very particular when reading books of this nature, I always find myself saying "WHY don't they just"? The author did an excellent job of making you feel the isolation, cutoff, unable to seek outside help. Mexico can be very scary, I think this book was well thought out, the terror circumstances are believable. The narrator helped make the book enjoyable, the main character, single mom, timid, lonely, forced into a survival situation. This book entertained and captivated my attention, that's what I expect a good book to do, very few times did I wonder why the characters did what they did? Excellent entertainment, good message about how far a person will go to survive. Life can become routine, and an adventure like this will make anyone appreciate the mundane!

Really enjoyed this one! One of my favorite!!

Would you listen to Don't Look Back again? Why?

I really enjoyed this book.. It had all the entertainment and suspense that Gregg's novels normally have, but involved many players instead of the usual one man/woman against the unknown. All the Characters were brought to life perfectly. You find youself loving the ones you should had HATING the ones you should.

Have you listened to any of Cassandra Campbell and Scott Brick ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes

Riveting Cat-and-Mouse Chase Story

I love Gregg Hurwitz's books anyway but his writing just keeps getting better all the time. "Don't Look Back" is the ultimate, spine-tingling cat-and-mouse story, and will keep you glued to the pages. The protagonist is an unlikely heroine but proves her mettle when severely tested, and the bad guy, who is evil incarnate, is relentless. That's all of the storyline you're going to get from me...I wouldn't want to spoil a second of this adventure for anyone.

I devoured this book the first time through because I couldn't wait to find out how it ended, so I'm actually re-reading it already, this time savoring every delicious detail. "Don't Look Back" is definitely my favorite book on this summer's reading list.

loved the adventure

the narrators were extremely enjoyable. I really like Scott Brick, although he portrayed the bad guy and his part was small, he did it so eloquently and almost poetically. The female narrator was superb. the dialogue was very well plotted, making you wish you might have payed better attention earlier in the story.

What a sleeper - I could not finish it

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I an not sure who would want to listen to this book - the 2 narrator system did not work in this case - it made the book oh so confusing

Has Don't Look Back turned you off from other books in this genre?

I like this genre but not this book - seemed to go off in all directions

Would you be willing to try another one of Cassandra Campbell and Scott Brick ’s performances?

I will always listen to Scott Brick

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Dullness

Un-"Listenable"

Despite my admiration for Scott Brick (I am normally a huge fan of his narrations), I was unable to listen to this for more than an hour and had to read this good book instead. Both narrators used an incredibly maudlin tone that was just offensive.

I was going 90 MPH listening to this book

What did you love best about Don't Look Back?

The latter chapters were amazing.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It was slow going and took sometime to grow the story and characters but it was worth it. The half of the book were amazing!

What about Cassandra Campbell and Scott Brick ’s performance did you like?

Great performances!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I can still see her running through the forest, amazingly vivid descriptions and character growth.

Any additional comments?

Don't give up, give it a couple of hours to build and then wow you will be blown away.

Delightfully Frightening!

I discovered Hurwitz earlier this year with Orphan X and have been listening my way thru his library..I'll be sad when I'm done!

Other reviewers have detailed the plot so I won't..but this is well worth your credit if you enjoy being scared a bit. A plausible situation that was easy for me to identify with as I have hiked, yikes alone even! all over Central and South America I could envision this taking place on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica.

Scott Brick usually annoys the $hit out of me me and I resist buying books he narrates, because I seldom finish them. However, for some reason, he isn't as grating to my ear narrating Hurwitz novels.

Enjoyable and delightfully frightening!

Best I've Read in a Long Time

The story took me by surprise and grabbed me right away. Love the narrators and the suspenseful character arc.
