Juggling a family and a career is never easy - and it's becoming a real challenge for Sheriff Joanna Brady. Coping with the impending delivery of her second child as well as a staff shortage, the last thing Joanna needs is two serious crimes.
First, the body of an unidentified man is found in the desert, all of his fingers savagely severed. Following the scant clues, Joanna learns that the victim was an ex-con who had served 20 years in prison after confessing to the murder of his pregnant wife. During his last days he was seen following and photographing a young woman.
Then one of Joanna's officers is brutally attacked while on an unauthorized stakeout. Because the officer is one of its own, the department throws its resources into finding her attacker. But the murder haunts Joanna. Being a sheriff has become what she is, and she'll risk everything to see that justice is done.
My wife and I listened together. We both enjoyed both the content and the exceellent reading performance.
This. Has been one of the best books I’ve read/listen to in a long long time. Very well written and read. Thank you for the great book
I especially like the narrator. good pace and story. I listen for about 30 minutes a night before I doze off. with this book however. I found myself setting the timer for 60 minutes. the story was believable and had many twists and turns that keep the reader engaged. I have only read 2 of the books but now desire to go back and read them all and find out other cases for sherrif Brady. highly recommend. would make better movie than some at theater!
the reader should listen to the other books to make sure the names are properly pronounced. old school English is always best.

I'm sorry, but I hate it when a new narrator pronounces the protagonist's name wrong. Every time I heard it, it pulled me out of the story. I hate that!
