Publisher's Summary

The Basis for the Showtime® Original Series Starring Michael C. Hall

Meet Dexter Morgan, a polite wolf in sheep’s clothing. He’s handsome and charming, but something in his past has made him abide by a different set of rules. He’s a serial killer whose one golden rule makes him immensely likeable: he only kills bad people. And his job as a blood splatter expert for the Miami police department puts him in the perfect position to identify his victims. But when a series of brutal murders bearing a striking similarity to his own style start turning up, Dexter is caught between being flattered and being frightened - of himself or some other fiend.

Love the show so wanted to check this out

I loved the Dexter show and had no idea it was based from a book! I was really excited when I found that out and immediately downloaded this book. Eh, I was not impressed and have no desire to read the rest of the series.

Holy crap was that awesome.

Great book and read very well by its own author. Makes me want to read more of the books.

This was great!

I watched the show before I knew there were any books. This audiobook was great, Jeff Lindsay has a beautifully Dexteresque voice, lots of fun try it out!

better than the show

I've watched all the series from Showtime on Dexter and it's my first book I've listened to and honestly I enjoyed the book weigh more than the show

Shouldn't have watched the show first

Lot of changes in the story, some good, some not so much.
Narration was by turns amusing and annoying, sometimes it's great when the author reads his own book, didn't always enjoy Lindsay's take on his own work.

Not nearly as good as the Showtime series

Ugh. I have seen and loved the series and wanted to like this, too. Usually the books are better than the series or movies are, but not this time.

So very good!

I watched the show before exploring the books, and although the show is well done, the books are far better. I love that the author is the one reading it to us, it's much more personal and played out exactly how he intended with all the proper and dramatic pauses and accented words. I couldn't be happier!

Better that Season 1 Series

What made the experience of listening to Darkly Dreaming Dexter the most enjoyable?

The depiction and description of each character and Dexter's inner monolog had me hook from the get go!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Even though I knew what was about to happen from the Tv series i was still intrigued and was amazed!

What about Jeff Lindsay’s performance did you like?

LOVE IT

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

forget the film read the book!
