Publisher's Summary

Among the towering red cliffs of Petra, like some monstrous swollen Buddha, sits the corpse of Mrs.Boynton. A tiny puncture mark on her wrist is the only sign of the fatal injection that killed her.

With only 24 hours available to solve the mystery, Hercule Poirot recalled a chance remark he'd overheard back in Jerusalem: "You see, don't you, that she's got to be killed?" Mrs. Boynton was, indeed, the most detestable woman he'd ever met....

Wonderful!!!

Agatha is, once again, in top form with this story. And, as usual , Hugh Frazer is the supreme narrator.
Thank you for another of Ms. Christie'a stories I will listen to over and over.

You can't go wrong with Agatha!

Any additional comments?

Another great listen by Agatha Christie and narrated wonderfully by Hugh Fraser. Written well with great character development and intricate details. I am really enjoying listening to all the Christie audiobooks.

One of AC's Best!

Beautiful, thrilling, kept me guessing from.begining to end. The last chapter is a great reward for all the mental work through the rest of the book. I loved the discussion about truth.

I enjoyed it but

It was good but a little too complicated and the who did it seemed forced and much of an after thought. Hercule had very little to do until the end not much emotional connection to the characters.

The murder was right on time.

Hugh Fraser delivers this story with great skill. The odd characters slowly come to life, as we wait for the murderer to strike. Poroit enters the story late in the game, but solves the riddle using his little grey cells.

Family Secrets

If you could sum up Appointment with Death in three words, what would they be?

She must die.

What other book might you compare Appointment with Death to and why?

This is a wonderful Christie, full of interesting characters, a compelling mystery with plenty of suspects, and a thoroughly loathsome victim. Rather like her "Murder in Mesopotamia" for the exotic setting.

Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the epilogue where we find out what happened to the family after the crime was solved.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not "moved" really, but I did enjoy the "gathering of the suspects" scene.

Sharp psychological portrait

Christie at her best. Underrated, this is a sharp portrait of an evil, sadistic and vindictive woman. I liked it.

Another great reading of an enjoyable book

It's not my favourite Christie novel, but it's still an interesting story with great characters - I particularly like the malevolent mother who is the murder victim in this story. Not sure why it was called "Appointment with Death", though - time is a factor, but no appointments were made out in the deserts around Petra (in Jordan). Hugh Fraser does a great job again, and I love listening to his narration of so many of the Agatha Christie mysteries.

I had read it before... but enjoyed to revive it!

If you could sum up Appointment with Death in three words, what would they be?

addicting, exciting, thrilling

What did you like best about this story?

It's got an excellent psychological profile of all the characters.

What does Hugh Fraser bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His vivacity when telling the story definitively was a plus. He makes all characters very distinguishable.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No.
