Publisher's summary

A mother's worst nightmare, a chance at redemption, and a deadly secret that haunts a family across the generations

There's only room for one mother in this family.

Claire Abrams' dreams became a nightmare when she passed on a genetic mutation that killed her little boy. Now she wants a second chance to be a mother, and finds it in Robert Nash, a maverick fertility doctor who works under the radar with Jillian Hendricks, a cunning young scientist bent on making her mark - and seducing her boss.

Claire, Robert, and Jillian work together to create the world's first baby with three genetic parents - an unprecedented feat that could eliminate inherited disease. But when word of their illegal experiment leaks to the wrong person, Robert escapes into hiding with the now-pregnant Claire, leaving Jillian to serve out a prison sentence that destroys her future.

Ten years later, a spunky girl named Abigail begins to understand that all is not right with the reclusive man and woman she knows as her parents. But the family's problems are only beginning. Jillian, hardened by a decade of jealousy and loss, has returned - and nothing will stop her from reuniting with the man and daughter who should have been hers.

Past, present, and future converge in this mesmerizing psychological thriller from critically acclaimed author Kira Peikoff.

Very very good...

Don’t be fooled by the corny title.. this is an intelligent, well written book. I can tell it was well researched. I won’t repeat the blurb but there’s so much more to this story. There’s the science part, which I found interesting and the human cost as well as the ethical and legal ramifications involved in certain kinds of scientific experiments. I think it was well told and balanced. I changed my opinion several times throughout... that’s saying something. Recommended.

Such a good listen!

Completed in just over a day! Good pace and interesting story. Abigail seemed a little older than 11 but kids do grow up quicker than when my kids were little :)

Can’t believe this was “free!”

This thriller was better than many titles I’ve paid for. It was so good - I can’t believe it was included in audible plus. This is my first time writing a review, but I felt compelled to recommend because of how thoroughly I enjoyed this listen. 5 stars!

It's total trash but so much fun.

The story has so many flaws (ridiculous choices, silly dialog, and annoying characters), but I still found myself entertained until the very end.

Shadey Shadey

What a twist 😳. A mothers instinct is something that is unmatched. I admit the book was slow go grab my attention and then it took off. Never underestimate what lengths a person would go through to destroy you and/or to live in your shoes. Ethan thinks his wife Claire has gone crazy after the death of there son. Claire just wasn't herself but who would be. She was obsessed with having another child. That's when Nathan the scientist helped her make her dream come true. Nathan's lab mate Julian was obsessed with him, way much more than anyone could fathom. Fast forward to Claire having a girl named Abigail, Julian going to jail, Ethan and Nathan married with new identities, a little boy Charlie who resembles, and an art teacher kidnapping Abby and Nathan, Claire wheelchair bound and so much more. This was a great psychological thriller.

A unique premise

I enjoyed this book--it's based on an interesting and unique premise (which I won't reveal here!) It was a good choice to use 3 narrators and the plot is intriguing.
