Publisher's Summary

From the bestselling author of When I’m Gone and Working Fire comes a gripping novel about a mother, her missing daughter, and the dark secrets that engulf them.

Ever since her husband’s death collided with the birth of her daughter, postpartum depression has taken hold of Veronica Shelton. She can’t sleep, can’t work, and can’t bear to touch her beautiful baby girl. Her emotional state is whispering lies in Veronica’s ear: You’re a bad mother. Your baby would be better off without you. But not everything can be reasoned away by Veronica’s despair. Can it?

After all, the break-in at her house happened. The disturbing sketches she found in her studio are real. So is the fear for her daughter’s safety—especially when Veronica comes home to a cold, silent nursery and a missing baby.

As she turns from victim into primary suspect, Veronica realizes that only she can find her daughter. Authorities aren’t helping. They’re only watching. Veronica’s concerned mother has suddenly vanished from her life. And a new friend seems to be keeping secrets from her too. Now, reality is waiting for Veronica in a dark place—because someone’s mind games have only just begun.

Couldn't stop listening!!!!

This truly is my favorite audible book that I have heard in the past two years. My job is a courier so I’m in the car for hours and hours on end and this book kept me interested, excited, sad at times, and enthralled with the possibility of where the author was going to take me next. Giving it five stars is five stars less than I would like to give it! I did not expect the ending and I’m one of those people who thinks out every plot for a story but because I enjoyed this one so much I purposely did not think about what might or might not happen. Wouldn’t of changed a thing… I did not expect what came next. I am now on the hunt to read every book this Emily Bleeker has written and will write. Thoroughly enjoyed the story. Actually found myself tearing up at quite a few spots during the reading of it. Absolutely loved it! And you couldn’t have found a better narrator,

Enthusiastic 5 well earned stars! Highly recommended.

Stellar! Masterful storytelling from the beginning to the final word. Ms. Bleeker weaves a powerful, sometimes heart wrenching tale. The characters are well developed and complex; each of whom is flawed. I was quite anxious during much of this book. I knew and/or suspected certain details, but the writing was so good that I questioned myself on many occasions. I’m glad I listened to the audiobook rather than reading it, because I don’t know if I could have resisted the temptation of flipping to the end.

Sophie Amoss’ performance was equally superb. Her voice inflections and nuances let the listener know who’s who, adding to the enjoyment of this great book. Her voice is pleasant and evoked raw emotion.

This isn’t my first Bleeker novel, but is my favorite thus far. I look forward to more of her work. This IS my first experience with Sophie Amoss, but I will consider audiobooks performed by her in the future just because it’s her.

Emotion Driven

Excellent writing developing the main character. a little more predictable than Bleeker's other books but that might also be a result of getting used to her style. I'm impressed with the sophistication with which she captures images and emotions in this novel. I understand those who say it moves slowly but I think they are looking for a different type of book than this offers. This isn't a fast paced who done it, it uses the psychological thriller medium to explore the intense emotions of loss, co-dependency, guilt, foregiveness, and probably some I missed. I'd love to read a spin-off by Bleeker focused on Barb or a similar character that is in the style of literary fiction instead of a mystery.

Waiting, Waiting, Waiting and Waiting......

I kept on waiting, waiting and waiting for "The Waiting Room" to get good and it never did. The narrator was just as "blah" as the storyline. Emily Bleeker's "Wreckage" book was superb but this was the book that should have been entitled "Wreckage" because it was a complete wreck.

All the reviews that I read for this book were glowing and I am just not seeing it. I gave this book two hours and I stopped listening because I could not stand listening to a narration that lacked sizzle and a storyline that was just not there.

Ludicrous

Very disappointed after reading some fairly good reviews. Cannot understand why it would get more than 2 stars

Great suspense

I love Emily Bleeker's stories, and this is one of her better ones. The pain of loss was so strongly portrayed that my heart ached for Veronica. You won't be sorry for listening to this one.

Excellent psychodrama

Well told and narrated! A different book - lots of feelings as well as plot, though you have to stay with it - the plot heats up quite a bit later in the book. It’s worth waiting.
