I’m one placement away from becoming a fully fledged London detective. It’s bad enough that my last assignment before I qualify is with Supernatural Squad. But that’s nothing compared to what happens next. Brutally murdered by an unknown assailant, I wake up 12 hours later in the morgue - and I’m very much alive. I don’t know how or why it happened. I don’t know who killed me. All I know is that they might try again.

Welcome to The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar. I'm Sam Quinn, the werewolf book nerd in charge. I run my business by one simple rule: Everyone needs a good book and a stiff drink, be they vampire, wicche, demon, or fae. No wolves, though. Ever. I serve the supernatural community of San Francisco. We've been having some problems lately. Okay, I'm the one with the problems. The broken body of a female werewolf washed up on my doorstep. What makes sweat pool at the base of my spine, though, is realizing the scars she bears are identical to the ones I conceal.

To the uninitiated, Savannah shows only her bright face and genteel manner. Those who know her well, though, can see beyond her colonial trappings and small-city charm to a world where witchcraft is respected, Hoodoo is feared, and spirits linger. Mercy Taylor is all too familiar with the supernatural side of Savannah, being a member of the most powerful family of witches in the South. Despite being powerless herself, of course. Having grown up without magic of her own, in the shadow of her talented and charismatic twin sister, Mercy has always thought herself content.

Publisher's Summary
Beware your heart and soul...
Evan broke Cassie's heart two months ago, and she still doesn't know why. She throws herself into family, friends, and her new job at the sheriff's department, but nothing helps. The only thing that finally allows her to heal and move on is the love of a new man, mind mage Matthew Blair. Cassie finds him... irresistible.
Matthew may also be the only one who can help keep the non-magical residents of Eagle Rock from going crazy over the murder of a beloved pastor's wife. It looks like a sorcerer is to blame, but while Cassie tries to figure out who, others take matters into their own hands, with tensions running so hot, a single spark might set Eagle Rock ablaze. Book 3 in the Cassie Scot series.

Mind Games
A solid continuation of the Cassie Scot series. The tension between the magic and non-magic, the feud between two very powerful Magic families, and now enter the mind mages...
Christine Amsden has kept me on the edge of my seat with this series. I can’t wait for the next book!

Another great book in this series! I love how the author picks up right where we left off in the last book with this series. I hate having a chunk of time unaccounted for between books. New situations do come up, and they move the story forward quite well, but also the old ones get resolved. I can't ask for more than that!

This book kept me up until the wee hours..........
I made the mistake of starting Mind Games, the third entry in this series featuring Cassie Scot, later in the evening, and I was so enthralled that I stayed up until the middle of the night to finish it. However, the lack of sleep was well worth it. The book begins right were book two ended, with Evan leaving Cassie with a broken heart and an endless amount of questions about him, her parents, and the state of unrest in the magical world. Cassie quickly meets and begins to date Matthew Blair, a state senator and a secret mind mage. Of course, Evan comes back into the picture, and the battle for Cassie's affection begins. I am not a fan of the romantic love triangle theme, but Amsden handled it with her usual finesse, and it wasn't long before I knew something NOT-normal was happening to Cassie.
Throughout this romantic back and forth, push and pull, Cassie is investigating rapidly accelerating tensions between the magical and the non-magical, and it is only with her usual determination and cunning mind that she discovers what is actually happening. As always, if you want an exciting and intriguing mystery with plenty of action and a very slow burn romance, you can't make a better choice than this book and the entire series.
The narration by Frank is as wonderful as always. She narrates all the books in this series, and I cannot imagine a better choice to portray Cassie. She differentiates well between characters, handles male and female voices with ease, and her delivery is flawless. Between Amsden's beautiful prose and Frank's skillful narration, this book is the perfect use of an Audible credit.

Great Story!
I'm really enthralled into the Cassie Scot series. I think Christine Amsdendid a great job with writing this series. I just hope in book 4 we get more answers and light shed on a few things. If it's not finished after this last audio then I'll scream. I don't care for reading so I must know how it turns out.
The narrator did a good job but not a great job. I actually thought she was better in the other books than this one. I'm still going to rate it 5 stars because it wasn't so bad I couldn't listen to it. She needs some improvement in her male voices but other than that you could still listen to it without wanting to throw it in a wall. I highly recommend this series.

great 3rd book, ready for the last book
There is just something about this series that draws me in and keeps my attention. This book has a bit of a slow start, I was a touch confused about where we were in the timeline. Thankfully things came together when Cassie picks up the POV narrative.
I really liked the look into Evan's mind, but it probably would have worked better somewhere other than the very beginning of the book. There is much intrigue revealed in the start of the book, I ended up going back and reading it a second time when I finished. There was much that made sense with the re-reading.
The plot has a lot going on, almost too much at times. There are many intrigues to keep up with and plenty of players to keep track of. I was happily surprised to see a few unexpected twists. Definitely eager to read the final book in the series when it releases!
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Melissa Reizian Frank, who has been with the series from the start. She really has a great feel for Cassie, love the sass and angst she can instill into the read. Terrific pace that moves the book along and helps the story flow. I will have to look for more of her reads after the series is finished.
The story was really great, it just had a very slow start. I know that is weird to say when the book begins with a bit of action. It just felt slow motion because I was trying to catch up with what was going on in the story line. Things picked up and really moved later on, it was just a climb to get there.

Great mystery romance
What did you love best about Mind Games?
I loved the characters and the dynamic between them.
Any additional comments?
Ever since Evan Blackwood broke her heart, Cassie Scot has had a hard time adjusting back to real life. When Matthew Blair, a local mind mage, asks her out, Cassie decides to say yes despite her reservations. She finds herself growing close to him and falling in love, but everyone keeps telling her that Matthew is using his mind magic on her. Meanwhile, when the Pastor Roberts’ wife is killed in her own house, the Gateway Christian Church parishioners start a witch hunt for everyone they suspect is a witch, including Cassie and her family. To help solve the dispute and restore order, Evan shows back up in town on the heels of Alexander Dupree, a magical practitioner interested in creating a unified magical government. To top off Cassie’s plate, she discovers the truth about why she doesn’t have magic and Evan and his family are a part of it. Are the incidents are related? Is Matthew using his mind magic on Cassie? Will Evan and Cassie resolve their differences?
Narrator, Melissa Reizian Frank is a perfect match for Amsden’s book. Her unique voices for each character are easily distinguishable and bring to life the well-developed personalities of each character. The character dynamic was engaging and entertaining. The plot is not only well-developed, but engrossing and hard to put down. The plot twists and turns are abundant and keep the reader guessing the ending. The mix of intrigue, mystery, and action blend together well and Frank does a great job of transitioning between them. Readers who liked the first two books or who like mystery, romance, and humor will thoroughly enjoy reading this book.

Another great book in this series. Cassie’s heart always seems to be broken but the show must go on. good but frustrating for me
I don't know. I'm seriously torn on this series. I like Cassie and the actual writing/tone of the books (I really do.) and the narrator is great. But I'm just constantly frustrated with the decisions Cassie and the author make. The last book had me all but enraged and this one didn't. But I just wasn't happy either. I'm sick of the constant reminder that women are sexually enslaved as breeding stock (and the endless stream of men trying to get Cassie for this reason), can't figure out why only women are ever spoken of being drained of magic (seems to me it would work just as well on men), and the Cassie never pushes for the information I want her to or tells people the things I think they should know.
[SPOILER] I mean, I really feel like that if she had a true heart to heart where she told Evan how much it hurt her to not have her magic and see him refuse to give it back, I feel like he'd relent. But she asked once, didn't push and didn't tell him her actual feelings. Similarly, I feel like her family sold her out AGAIN in this book, but she never said a word about that. It's so frustrating to repeatedly watch her walk away with things unaddressed.
Having said all that, I really do like her. I like that she's gaining strength, even without her power. I like that she protects people. And I like the side characters. I just find the decisions she makes and the plot lines the author utilizes frustrating as hell.

Starting off not long after the last book ended you get inside the head of both Cassie and Evan. You get a few more answers as to what happened in the past and yet you get so many more for the future. The actions in this book from the townsfolk is horrid and yet Cassie is always there to help out. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Very good series!
Another good story in the series. I'm enjoying the Cassie and Evan storyline as well as the growing list of enemies and trouble facing the pair. I'm looking forward to listening to the next book.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reading audio copy.

It's not a mind game this is a great book
Wow , this series just gets better and better. I loved this one and can't wait to start the next book. This book continues from where the last one ended (and I really recommend you read or listen to that one before starting this one - mostly because it is a great book and shouldn't be missed). What I like is the great characters and the way they use there magic or try it control it, this leads to some interesting scenes.
Cassie still heart broken over Evan leaving her after she finally admitted that she loves him decides the only way to get over him his by dating mind mage Matthew. Her family once again aren't happy with her choices but they have there hand full to much to do anything. The non-magicians are growing stronger in attempt to drive the witches out of town and at the same time someone is uniting the magic uses to stand up for themselves and come out of the shadows. Tensions are high but it is only after the priests wife is killed in a fire that things get really explosive. Can Cassie do her job as deputy and straddle both sides of the line to keep everyone safe? And solve some murders before she is burned at the steak for being the witch she isn't?
I like the narrator and think she does a good job with both male and female voices.

Entertaining
Mind Games is book 3 in the Cassie Scot series. The book can be listened to as a standalone but I recommend listening to the books in series order so that you have the full history. The story finds Cassie with a new love interest but not everything is as it should be. Mystery, mayhem, and violence make for an interesting and entertaining storyline. The characters are likable. The narrator did a good job! I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
