Story
I have a daughter who knows nothing about my life in Hallow Hill, and she's coming for college holiday break. Her visit will dovetail the Solstice Court Meet. It will be close, but if all goes according to plan, I’ll be out of magistrate robes in time to meet the plane. The problem here is that I have to include the qualifier if all goes according to plan, and I ask you. When has anything in my life ever gone according to plan?

Story
Romance that is destiny laced, fantasy infused, and dressed in a little night magic. If he leaves, he can never come back. But is he dumb enough to get in his car and drive away anyhow? New York Times best-selling author, Victoria Danann, begins a sizzling new series about an enclave of modern day witches who are sexy, philanthropic and living in the Texas Hill Country. They're selfless to a fault when it comes to generosity, but when it comes to the men they choose for themselves, they don't settle for anything less than the best.

Story
"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

I’m half-witch, half-faery, and facing dangers as real as the ache in my bad knee. Ibuprofen and caffeine keep me going, and I could do this for the rest of my life. Whoever thinks my family home is an easy mark better take notice: The new Guardian in town isn’t going down without a fight. Story
One day, I’m married, living in Seattle, and magic isn’t real. The next, I’m divorced and living in the guest room of my ex’s hotter-than-sin cousin’s place in Savannah and talking to an animated skeleton named Robert. I have to admit, Robert isn’t my worst date. At 41, I didn’t think I’d be starting over. But I’ll be damned if my ex thinks I’m down and out because he pulled a fast one on me. When a job comes my way that offers me a chance to use my childhood training in the shadow world, I take it.

Story
After finding my soon-to-be ex-husband together with my soon-to-be ex-assistant, I realize his "for better or for worse" didn't include my 40s. An extended vacation on a remote Italian island sounds like the perfect antidote to a midlife crisis - until I arrive. I'm expecting Chianti and pasta. What I get is a run-down bed-and-breakfast with the oldest Nonna in existence. There's something about this island. Something odd. Like how everyone keeps calling me Mamma or how I'm the first tourist in decades.

Katherine wasn’t looking for anything extraordinary in her life. She had a job she loved, a husband she adored, and a home in the beautiful seaside town of Moonstone Cove. Okay, yes, she worked too much and had fallen out of touch with all her friends, but that happened to everyone, right? And sure, she was feeling a little creaky in the mornings and couldn’t drink coffee after noon, but that was just life in middle age.

Living back at Mom's place with her and Gram is not how this ex-district attorney intended to start the next chapter of her life, but I shouldn't be surprised it's where I ended up. You see, my family is cursed. Literally. At least that's what both Gram and Mom claim. I've never given much thought to their ridiculous superstitions, but when three local patrons from my mom's occult shop end up dead, even I'm a bit unnerved. So I decide to dive right into the crazy headfirst. And what I thought would be the end of my journey...may only be the beginning.

I knew hot flashes were supposed to be hot, but I didn't expect flames. One day I'm in anger management, normalizing the cordial hate between me and my husband. The next, we're divorced, and he has taken both our house and the business we built together. I'm 40 years old and living above our empty restaurant, plotting my next move. And then the world around starts lighting up - literally catching on fire. I'm starting to think my defining characteristic may not be my snark or my cupcake-baking prowess, but spontaneous combustion.

Robin Brannon was a normal wife, mom, and antique shop owner until a brush with death turned her day-to-day life upside down. Now, she and her two best friends are seeing things that belong in a fantasy novel. Ghosts. Visions. Omens of doom. Nothing that belongs in the peaceful mountain town they call home. Added to that, Robin's marriage is on the rocks, her grandmother's health is failing, her mother is driving away the customers at her shop, her teenage daughter refuses to get her driver's license, and her left knee aches every darn morning.

Story
Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good. But as they say, all good things come to an end. One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed-and-breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job - deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there.

When it rains, it pours...and sometimes love finds you even when you can’t find yourself. Fate has given me a second chance at the happiness I once knew in the odd Southern town of Grimm Cove. But only if I can come to terms with some rather eye-opening revelations. Supernaturals are a real thing. I'm a witch. My high school sweetheart, who happens to be the Chief of Police in Grimm Cove, is my fated mate and a wolf-shifter. Ghosts exist and can be very nosy and meddlesome. Someone is murdering witches left and right.

Good but....
It’s been a very long time since I last reviewed a book, but I felt this book merited it. I LOVE these characters, setting, and storyline, the author paints a great picture in many respects, I was completely hooked after the 1st book, which was a lovely 9+ hours, but this book came up very short. At half the time, many ideas were introduced that went nowhere. At the end of the 1st book we were told about John David’s upcoming murder mystery dinner which is where we come in. There was a lot of build up and many scrumptious details given (clothing worn, preparations made, gorgeous scenery, foods eaten), but the event wrapped up so very quickly and it ended very abruptly. Then we jump right into Ritas magistrate’s duties, again a lot of details are given about the defendants, and we learn some good info about this wonderful world the author is building before us, then the book suddenly ends. One loose end of note left hanging is the object that John David (the vampire) takes care of that showed up in Rita’s shop. And for that matter, the mystery of where the items for the store come from has yet to be addressed. And Rita’s daughter, lots of loose ends there. I expected Rita’s ex to show back up and make a bunch of trouble, because you know we want to see some accountability dished out to him, but these issues may be forthcoming in upcoming books. Rita is living my dream life (except I adore my hubby) and I’m a tad older, so I want more please. Most stories have a basic conflict-resolution main theme, and even some sub-theme(s) that generally wrap up with each book, and have a least one on going theme throughout the series, but this series, so far, doesn’t follow this format. It’s a great to leave your readers wanting more, not so good to leave them so thoroughly unsatisfied.

Judged as Fabulous!
I absolutely love this episode of “life of a mortal judge of the faery courts.” I love the interactions between and among this group. I wish I was part of their little group. I love the murder mystery and absolutely love the rulings in court. Wish our justice system tried these methods...
This is a grand story! Life can happen after 40. I love the narration, perfect voice for these characters!
Definitely recommend to a friend!
Can hardly wait for the next episode!

Just didn’t grab me
Well, it was sort of a self justifying story. Good v bad and easy fixes. Sort of here is the bad guy/gal and here is the punishment. No real story depth. Not as good as the first book. Made the reader feel good but not a story I was looking for. I kept thinking that after the first 2 cases the story would develop but it didn’t.

Rita is plunged into her new role and is suddenly speaking like a magistrate that’s been in the role forever. She is so much less enjoyable now.
And then the book abruptly ends, very short.

Judge Judy bangs the gavel in fairyland ....
Well, not exactly, it's Judge Rita, and she does a really great job of righting wrongs and dealing with the fae on fae cruelty of "normal" life in fae-ville. I loved listening to the trials of the cases that make up most of this book ... if you like courtroom stories, you'll love this book, it's very satisfying. The two drawbacks are it's relatively short and it's a bit of a cliffhanger in that there's an unresolved issue at the end, a fae that might want to kill Judge Rita ... I'm not a fan of cliffhangers, but this is such a great series I would have purchased the next book anyway.

Very short story
I did not like that the story was so short. It ended abruptly even though the story was enjoyable, the ending ruined it. The narration is top notch, but then again the length of the story and the abrupt end makes me wish I did not buy it. It was not worth the money.

Lots going on
The story continues and Rita is introduced to more craziness, more characters are introduced and more of her new world is revealed. I love the cases being summarized when Rita fully steps into being Magistrate, but am left feeling like more could have been said. Not just with the cases but with other characters as well, John David for example. I will not say more as to not give away spoilers, but the books are worth the read and an interesting story is being told. I only hope they are being cut short for a reason and more will be said later in the series.

Half a book at full price
I am an avid audio book listener. This is the first reviewer I felt the need to write. Far from leaving a teasing cliff hanger and anticipating the next book. I am frustrated and irritated by being strung along with only half a book at full book price. Yes it is my choice to purchase or not, and guess what, I will not be purchasing anything by this author again.

Rita in Court
This was a short read but still incredibly enjoying. I love the way Victoria Danann writes and her descriptions in the court scenes are great. Lovely to see the inventive ways that Rita comes up with as punishments. Great addition to the series and lots of fun. Still getting used to the English accents but it didn’t put me off.

very disappointed
I feel that this is not a complete book and that I am paying for chapters. I am left discontented that having bought 2 books I am left feeling like I have only bought 2/3 s of one book and don't even have the end of what could have been a good book.
