Uplifting midlife magic

Overall: Narration by Xe Sands takes this charming story of midlife magic to the next level.  A light and lovely audiobook perfect for fans of paranormal women’s fiction.

Performance: Xe Sands brings this story to life with narration filled with nuance, verve, and charm.  I’m a fan of her work, and she’s always excellent, but what she brings to Silver Spells is an intimacy of storytelling that really draws you in.  It’s like having your best friend tell you the story over a glass of wine.  Xe knows how to deliver a gripping scene just as well as a humorous or romantic one.

Story: The story itself is an uplifting tale of the power of friendship, love, and believing in yourself.  Luella, the empty-nester protagonist, discovers that she has not only magical powers but an adorable magic dog to go with them.  The mystery of the origin of those powers unfolds over the course of the book along with a sweetly romantic subplot with a man from her past.  Subsequent books will follow the adventures of Luella’s two closest friends, Rose and Pepper.  I’ve read quite a few of the new paranormal women’s fiction books, and although this one is firmly in the genre, it’s definitely a bit of a different take.  It’s lighter, brighter, and all in all focused on magic, love, and joy, with its own uplifting, unique spin on magical women’s fiction.

midlife is not the end

I very much enjoyed it from the beginning all the way to the end. Small town life. One mature woman in her peak of life. OH. Let me add that she now has a little something extra. A group of women friends and family. Add to that attitudes, motorcycles, magic, and a new way of life.

Xe gave the audio a little something magical with her voice. I look forward to hearing more from her and seeing more of Kate's work also.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Entertaining Wonderful characters

mystery meets magic

i really enjoyed listening to this audibook. the main character isn't your typical 20something heroine who is perfect and has all the things she wants in life.
nope she's jobless, single, and has no clue what's going on.
Luella has literally stumbled into something she can't exactly explain. One minute she was enjoying her job and the next she's seeing invisible dogs. This story is very quirky and cute. There's a little element of mystery as she obviously has no clue what is happening and why. But even with that eventually explained -- there's a small villain.
the narrator for this book was spot on. the country/southern was a perfect fit for Luella. it's def a great book if you want a cozy mystery with some laughs and a growing love interest.

Excellent! This one is a absolute keeper!

Three newly formed witches, among three long time besties and a rediscovered friend! Great start right?
A beautiful magical dog and a cagey grow thrown in with a Hog wild mamma! This is gonna be fun, with a capital FU-n. I can hardly wait for the next book!

I'm new to this artisan of both written and spoken word. But I will certainly be a growing fan and admirer of both parties.

Thanks for the break in a world sadly lacking in magic right now.
It will be back soon!!

Thanks again,Kaye

No story, bland narration.

This novel spends too much time on building the base for a series(?), and not enough on an actual plot. (What plot?) Although a fan of PWF, I found this book lacked action and the writing and narration too flat to keep the premise interesting. Everything that happens is presented as ordinary, and thus bland. For example, during the first day, several fantastic/paranormal events take place in the heroine’s life and the author doesn’t have the characters express any reactions. This continues throughout most of the book. Little anger/happiness/excitement etc. is expressed. The characters themselves are monotone, and thus the story.
Xe Sands narration does not help to make this story better. Though a pleasant voice, Ms. Sands intonation is too soft and flat for the majority of the fantastical events. Her voice could have made the book a little more lively, but that was a fail, too. Ms. Sands added no additional excitement to her voice even when extremely non-normal things happened: the heroine gets wings (wings!) and neither the writing or narration made it seem like more than getting a new nail color.
I won’t be buying the next book, if there is one.

Great Listen!

This book was a super fun book to listen to. I loved the narrator. She did such an amazing job with all of the voices and emotions. I loved the main character's side-kick friends. They were so supportive and sweet. Her magic powers are a mystery that I couldn't wait to solve. It was just fun. It was a short listen. I really wanted it to be longer because I was enjoying it so much. If you like mystery and magic, and you're ready to hear books about middle-aged women that still know how to have fun, then this is the book for you. I absolutely loved that they were in their forties and they weren't stick thin, and hot guys still found them hot. It was very refreshing!

Fabulous Story & Narration! A Magical Delight!

This book is an enjoyable delight, I am new to Kate Moseman’s work, I enjoyed her writing style and characters and storylines she created, they are interesting and imaginative. The story grabbed my attention right from the start, it is the type of book you do not want to out down because you want to know what happens next. It is the first book of the series so it also lays out the foundation for the rest of the series. The characters are likable and easy to relate to and connect with, Luella Campbell, was an ordinary woman working an office job as a media specialist one minute then an unemployed woman the next with strange things happening all around her. Turns out she is not alone, the same thing is happening to her two friends. I loved the premise of this book, not your average midlife crisis here, just three women coming into their own, that is their own magical powers. I loved how everything played out in this book, the story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, some wonderful humor, twists and turns, heartfelt emotions and some romance. Kate Moseman, thank you for this enjoyable and entertaining story, I am looking forward to what comes next as you continue to build up this magical world with these fabulous characters.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Xe Sands is a talented narrator and versatile voice artist. She brings these characters to life, giving each their own distinct voice making it easy to follow along and tell who is who. Her portrayal of each character is spot on, she grasps each character’s persona and plays the role with perfection, sounding believable and just as I picture them to sound. She sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the character’s emotions and projects them into her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the fabulous listen🎧

Silver Spells

Halfway through your life and you have a midlife crisis, that is normal right?! What if halfway through your life, you get magical powers? Wouldn’t that be interesting? The Midlife Elementals Series is not your typical fantasy or paranormal fiction, but it does have some entertaining ideas and brings originality to readers.

Luella works at Suntan Queen, in the Marketing Department, heck she started that department, but now its bad news bears for her. She’s been ousted without a rhyme or reason to justify the cause for a firing, but out of a job and with a daughter in college, Luella’s life couldn’t possibly get any worse, could it? Just when anxiety and her nerves can’t handle anymore stress, something happens to her and two of her friends. What she can only presume to be magic, they begin to see strange things like a flying silver dog and lifelike murals that seem like they can leap off the walls…literally! Luella and her friends soon realize they’ve been gifted with elemental magic, but what now? There is still the whole “no job” and “bills to pay” for Luella, and with the additional stress of finding out where these new powers came from, the three women are taken by surprise to find that the answers may be closer than they think.

Moseman’s first installment is alluring with elemental magic at play and creativity, but lacks a bit of character development. There are a lot of questions that were left unanswered, or open-ended with no resolve in sight. Some of the characters were rushed in scenes and the full scope of personality or back-story would be more compelling to a reader of this genre. Sands is sensational, with her southern drawl and charm. She livens up the characters and gives the story vibrancy while keeping an acceptable pace. Since this was an audiobook, the review does not critique spelling or grammatical errors; however, by the fluency in narration, it appears the story is well-written and a reader would have little to no issues if reading rather than listening is preferred. With this being the first installment in the Midlife Elementals Series, readers and listeners alike can dive right in.

Cosy and entertaining

I like paranormal woman fiction a lot and was looking forward to this one.
The story hocked me right in the first chapter. Not only a relationship can be an anchor in your life, a job can be one, too. The author Kate Moseman points out the struggle to find a new job and to get along with less money.
When the main character Luella Campbell lost her job she got help from her friends and her mother. I loved the friendship between these women and her mother is a unique character. I liked the relationship with her ex-husband as well. Not every divorce needs to end terrible und it is great to get a positive example.
The magic was fascinating, but there could have been more and different reactions from the characters.
The story got a cute romance - it is not very dominant and made me smile.
I liked the way the story developed and got excited about some plot twist. Unfortunately the problems are solved a bit too fast and smooth, for my personal liking.
The voice of Xe Sands is a perfect cast for this story. She is excellent at portraying the characters.
Over all it was a cosy and entertaining story, with interesting characters.

Magical story of love and friendship

Review of Silver Spells
A Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel (MIdlife Elemental's, Book 1)
Author Kate Moseman
Narrated By Xe Sands
Duration 6 Hours 12 mins

I was absolutely delighted to be one of the first people to have the opportunity to listen to and Review this book, as it was only released on Audible on 13.04. 21. Thank you Kate, I feel really privileged to be one of the first and enjoyed your book immensely.

This is the first book in the Midlife Elemental's Series, the narrator XE Sands has a very relaxing voice, which makes the book very easy to listen to as she tells Luella Cambell and her friends story.

This is a really lovely pleasant story of magic love and and friendship. We join Luella her family and friends mortal and magical as Luella and her friends are suddenly get given a gift of magical elemental power's. Their  whole world is turned upside down.

A great start to the series and I am looking forward to the rest of it becoming available on Audible so that I can listen to their adventure's, after all they now have magic at their finger tips.

Wow I’m intrigued

So this book was by a new author for me but I’ve been enjoying this genre lately and the cover drew my attention. I wasn’t real sure what to expect from this book but I can say that I loved it. I loved how the story had a major plot twist. But I really do think there’s more to come yet. I don’t think it’s all over just yet. So I will be keeping my eye open for any more books from this author.
This was also a new narrator for me and well I was certainly pleased with her work.

Intriguing Intro to series

This book took a unique take on the women’s paranormal genre. A lot of paranormal books are geared toward a younger crowd where the characters are teens/mid 20’s, which can be fantastic, but it was cool to see it transpire into a different age group. This is the first book in this series, the story itself, was about a group of three besties discovering who they truly are while navigating regular life with a touch of clean romance. I look forward to hearing more in this world and what could happen. I really enjoyed the narration.

Empowering and liberating story about older women

Luella begins the story unemployed, out of pocket, in a relationship with a man who puts her down, and worried about how she will fund her daughter's education. She ends up having her own magical powers awakened and turning her life around. The descriptions of magic are beautiful and the relationships between the women are warm, supportive and empowering in a magical and everyday way.

Enchanting!

Pleasantly surprised by this book. This was my first time listening to one of Kate Moseman's work, and I was taken aback by how much I liked her style. The storyline is well-composed, well-paced, riveting, enchanting, and quite charming, with excellent character development and world-building. The Xe Sands is one of my favourite narrators, and I thought her performance was absolutely flawless. All in all, Silver Spells was a very enjoyable listen with quality writing, appealing characters, and outstanding narration. I'm definitely recommending this audiobook!
