I didn't mind rolling with the punches.... I just never imagined those hits would come in the form of magic. Witches, shifters, and fae don't exist, right?

This new world I've discovered is dangerous. The Tainted want to kill me, innocent paranormals want my help, and the son of Hades needs me to find demons.

Give me an Ibuprofen, and watch out. I'm not about to stand by and let someone else ruin my life. I'm a middle-aged woman on a brand-new mission, and nothing's going to stop me.

So much potential!

After reading the outline of the book, i was quite anxious to start the series! BUT then i heard the narrator. Unfortunately she made it EXTREMELY hard to listen to. Very monotone, boring and unpleasant to hear. Sadly, i won’t be listening to the rest of the series.

Unlikable protagonist

I found myself rolling my eyes multiple times throughout this book. I’m assuming the author is a very young woman or a man, because she’s leaning way too hard on cliches and nasty middle age jokes she’s clearly heard second hand.
The main character regularly TELLS us about her scientific mind but we rarely see it in action. She constantly complains about her children and even considers having a stranger “scare them straight” even though in the text both children appear perfectly well behaved, respectful, and compassionate.
And don’t get me started on her nursing experience. I genuinely wonder if the author has ever even met a nurse in her life. No woman and no nurse needs to be told why an elderly dying woman insists on using the actual bathroom while she’s able, rather than the bedpans.

The narrator Regan Brown was fantastic. I will definitely listen to her again.

Hard to listen to

I don’t enjoy this narrator at all. She sounds like she’s reading out loud instead of telling a story—two different things entirely.

I have read the other series of Fiona which I really like. This one is slow starting but I like.

The voices for the characters is throwing me off. Aidonius (sorry if that's spelled wrong) why is his voice so slow? It makes him sound dimwitted. And because I read the Fiona series first where he has a quick voice that has an Australian accent it is really weird. But even without the accent the slow speech rate is just really irritating.

The story is just starting and so far not as impressive as the Fiona story series but I'm willing to keep going

Solid first book.

I’ll carry on this series, interesting enough first book to continue. I thought it was going to be similar to magical midlife crisis but it’s not at all.

Audio is good narration fits theme.

love the narrator love the story. since I'm going through midlife myself I really enjoyed her take on life .

Enjoyable listen

The story is good, if predictable. The writing is solid. The narration is also pretty good. The male voices could be better. Overall a good listen and I look forward to continuing the series.

Great start to a new series

Brenda Trim has done it again with this new series. The characters are well developed and the atmosphere is believable. Regan Brown gave a wonderful performance as she brought it all to life. I look forward to the next in this series. I highly recommend this book.
